  • I personally think that perfection is the antithesis of the concept of a national initiative and this probably leads to a radical departure in my thinking from the idealistic critics who seek to "perfect" the legislation. And actually my strongest disagreements with them lie exactly in the basis of many of their criticisms: the balance of power. I think they miss the forest for the trees!

  • It seems interesting to me that people are so quick to point out how obvious it is that the Electoral Trust would replace the tyranny of representative government, yet expect to realize a national initiative process through the same procedures that protect broken representative government. Sometimes I think the concept of the Electoral Trust is one of the best ideas of the NI4D. But what do I know? I don't have everything figured out like these critics.

  • What's even funnier to me is that these same people are some of the most unrealistic, idealistic people I have ever encountered in my life! Actually I find it a bit sad, because I admire their idealism in many ways but it looks like a lot of wasted energy to me.

  • Mike put it to me perfectly. "It's not done by magic"

  • Like I said. Mike did all the work. He's the man at point that brought the concept to America at large.

  • i read it. its as close as we can get to perfect. Mike did all the work for us. Now all we have to do is realize it's potential instead of its short comings which you are so incapable of doing.

  • they dont have any such power. they play an advisory role as elected representatives of the initiative process. they screw up some worthy initiative and they'll immediately lose their job. the difference between them and congress is that Congress does not host any kind of legislation literally written by Americans. They get elected and then THEY write vote and pass laws. We're no where in the picture beyond selecting them as representatives.

  • they have no power. They're just clerks. they watch for which initiative has the most signatures and put it through committee so they can organize a nation wide vote. thats all.

  • yea you throw the bums out and replace them with another bum. brilliant. we can modify the national initiative anyway we want. the point is that we as Americans should be able to draft legislation and send it through a committee to organize a Vote on it. Screw Congress!

  • you have control over who gets nominated and who doesn't? you have control over which corporation controls your town? you have control over how you get to work? you have control over how much of your money gets spent on war machines? you have control over how expensive your meds are?

    no you don't

  • you live under tyranny Now fool. freedom is the opposite of tyranny. You're afraid of what would happen if America were truly allowed to rule itself as a nation. Those who would substitute their liberty for a little security deserve neither.

  • how so? 500 members of congress. 120 million americans.

    you're afraid of freedom.

  • traitor who sold weapons to Iran!

  • "Our three branches of government have become like an unstable chair, a three-legged chair. The founders could not have envisioned how much money and special interests would corrupt the political process. Giving us Americans legislative power will put forth the fourth leg of our stool and make it stable." -Mike Gravel
