Don't feel guilty about breaking up with him. Shit just happens. I was totally in love with a guy last summer and I dated him for like a month and he just started to be a jerk and started to ignore me so I broke up with him. Sometimes I still do feel guilty but at the same time I know that he wasn't worth it. So just try not to feel guilty. There are other guys or girls out there (:
Dumpee, dumper, whatever, if either dumped the other, there are *reasons* - namely something just wasn't working, or wasn't working "well enough". You cut your losses, learn from the experience, and move on. Beats the heck out of staying in something that was messed up, or just plain could not and would not work.
I totally know what you mean about feeling strong when you feel like crap! it's so weird, especially when your friends ask how you are and you try and explain that you're going to be ok not being ok... don't feel guilty when things don't work out with a guy/girl, that's how relationships go. good luck with all you're struggling with.
You are strong. And you will be just fine. You don't have to feel guilty for having to break up with someone either. Yes it hurt the other person's feelings but it would have been worse to stay in a relationship that wasn't going to work out.
