I love jazz, it's a shame talent has been replaced with synthesizers in modern music. I'm a high school student (15) I play the alto sax and I would listen to this any day before modern music (unless it's modern jazz) I'm a real Parker/bebop fan but Armstrong is great
Satchmo is the greatest! Really helped shape jazz into a better jazz! Im not Gunna insult music nowadays even though I don't like it, i don't have to listen to it! All I have to listen to is the good old music!
Wynton Marsalis said that everything that Louis Armstrong played or sang had a light in it, and that he had never heard any one else who had it. Listen to the intro to Ken Burns' Jazz, the best 8 minutes ever on TV.
@RobertMcNamara11 I know its related to John Gay's play "The Beggars Opera". It was remade into the "Three Penny Opera" around this time and this song is a representation of the characters and plot of the plays. Could be wrong I'm not entirely sure.
wow louis is real one of the best interprets who lived here ..i have to laugh every time if i have to go to a party and here the new age music ..it just sounds like shit ...iam 18 and when i make a party i just play swing jazz dixi ska early-reggae and skinhead-reggae and the mood is pure awesomeness becauze this music have so much more soul in it and everyone can feel it keep the oldschool spirit up
@papadreas420 yes skinhead reggae or roots reggae it all began with that genre if you wanna have few more information have a look @wikipedia/skinhead ..
@gomongio lol, I've been stuck on it for a week or 2 now & here I am again, comin' back for more! I've been trying to find every version he ever did just because they're all fantastic & unique! To this day, nobody even comes close to the kind of cool that Louie Armstrong put out on this song as far as I'm concerned. The man just had so much class & character & what a presentation! Hard to believe somebody with reefer madness could have it all together so well. lol Gotta b 4:20 somewhere by now.
@Phonehed I agree with you, completely, in every word... I've also looked for other versions and I always have to come back to this one... Louis was such a talented refreshing man! This is just amazing! Makes me chill...
@gomongio I finally had to create a whole new playlist that I'm still workin' on called Nuthin' but Louie Armstrong doin' Mack the Knife. I'm still looking for any versions I don't have, especially his live performances.
Good ol' Satchmo! No one like him before or since. Not only a great performer but rare in that he was clean, no drugs no drunkeness etc etc. Hearing him & his style reminds me of days when the world was less crazy than now.
@RavKadosh He smoked a ton of pot dude. Do some research. I am not saying it's good that he did, I am just saying he did. He was arrested for possession in 1931, and many people are quoted as saying he smoked about three large cigars of marijuana a day.
Hey, I’m a young artist, & I would really appreciate it if everyone would check out my cover of Michael Bublé’s “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You.” Although I’m knowledgeable that Michael Bublé was not the first to record the song, my version was inspired by his rendition, nonetheless. I promise you that you will not regret giving my version of the song a listen, & it will truly knock you off of your feet! So please listen & enjoy! Thanks!
@Musicmakesmebreath the german original is rather strange...or rather, this version and ones like it made it "nicer"...it's not meant to be so pleasant
@Indego84 He makes me want to throw my clothes off and run through the streets at night singing this song. I concur with you about the martini, however.
Only on youtube, could lowlife degenerates squabble about absolutely nothing, and turn this sweet and wonderful track/video into a basis of hatred and confrontation. Just once, would I like to see ALL comments, along the lines of "Wow, this track is such a wonderful piece. What does everyone else think about it?"....Response: "Yes, this track is great...a sound so easy-going and pleasing, that I can just sit back and relax, enjoying life."...I dont see the need for all of this malcontent....
@RollingScot67 Everywhere in California it's exactly the opposite. We are told to seek crapy garage bands with no musical talent or classical knowledge, and that any band that has high production value is bad. All of this comes from sheeple who don't have a creative bone in their bodies and have never made, built, or done anything with their lives, except attempt to make others miserable. You are right that some real crap gets sponsored by the mainstream media-Lady Gag Me, AFI, Christina A.
@RollingScot67 I watched American Idol the other night and I think there is some very fine talent on display. The trouble--as you say---is the likes of Cowell who arbitrarily determine what does and doesn't "go" these days.
The result---reliance by the artists on big hair, amped-up voices, and bombastic arrangements.
Being more natural and learning a bit of subtlety would serve them better, IMHO.
Many people say that in the second half of the twentieth century the most influential musician is Bob Nesta Marley. They also say that the most influential musician of the first half of the twentieth century Louis Armstrong.
@SCORNDOGGMELACH It's about alot more than that, little boy. 'So glad you 'love this one', tho', except that you do not, do you? Good grief. Still, I doubt that Mr Armstrong is turning in his grave over you.
This jazz song is one the best songs ever no matter what genre of music you listen to.
