@MultiSniper70 that is the point I was making. I didn't say it was good for him to have 10 in a tank that size. I have 3, and they are in a 65 gallon tank and still under 3 inches each.
having a second feeding tank is awsome! But feeding this many turtles at once in one tank I would not advise. the ravenouse turtles may hurt each other by accident in the massive feedind frenzy! I would feed my turtle a large variety of bugs worms and even minnos when he was small. as he got bigger I would even give him the odd mouse or lean groung beef as a kind of thanks giving meal!!!
ok to all the people that are saying the tank is to small read the description for the video and you will find out that this is just a feeding tank not the tank they live in
can you take a look at my red eared slider and see if i should feed her fish? and i also have a turtle that is as small as this one in this video: My Young Red Eared Slider Turtle Jack so can you tell me if i should feed my 2 turtles?
are you finding that giving them the good tank environment is helping to get rid of the silvery/white patches on their shells? Do they just shed it off? Good for you for helping them out.
After reading the comments I will say some do not read the descriptions first before they pick on you about basking and tank size. It is only because they are such lovable lil guys I have 6 from baby to 30 year plus big boy and we love them all
40 gallon? for two?? thats way smaler then what they need. one male will need a 75 gallon mimumum. a female will need a 125 gallon. tten? a huge pond.
You should feed them Turtle Pellets they have them in baby turtle size. also give them shrimps cooked chicken sprinkled with calcium and vitamin powder (you can sprinkle it on the pellets too)keep the water warm(78-80 degrees F)and have a basking spot with a heating lamp. and get a big tank, remember that most turtles grow in size so have a nice big tank.
Wow there is a lot of competition in that tank!!! dont u think u should feed them more than 7 fish....there are 10 turtles u givin em 7 fish, that means at least 3 turtles r gonna stay hungry...
Well, there is no exact age to start feeding them fish, however for me, i will only start after they are at least 1 year old. For the first year, watch their diet, make sure they get enough proteins and other nutrients by feeding them good commercial turtle pellets and cuttle fishbone. Then when they are about a year old, you can start letting them hunt fish to exercise and to let them be more busy instead of idling around whole day waiting for food.
Try just once every two week... Fish have to much fat and will make your turtles liver sick in the long run.... Its a good way to get the exercise your turtles need...
Letting them swim and catch the fish are considered exercise for them. Because these turtles are in captivity, they lack exercise as they don't usually hunt for their food and just east pellets, that's why we buy feeder fish for them.
Just let it chase the feeder fish, it might take a while but eventually she will catch it. There's a reason why they sell you live feeder fish instead of dead ones, right?
my res are smaller then that but the one keeps biting the other ones foot have you seen yours doing this ? and if so do u think its just playing with him or trying to hurt him
Well. Do they have enough space? they might become aggressive towards each other if they do not have enough room. Try to seperate them for a couple of weeks or two then put them back together and see if this happens again.
Please read the description of the video "Regarding the tank, i know it is too small to keep 10 young red ear sliders in but don't worry, this is only their feeding tank.
The actual tank where they live in is much much bigger, the reason why i have a feeding tank is because i wish to avoid the water of the actual tank to be dirty. The filter of the actual tank isn't really working well currently."
Yea, i know. As i have mentioned in the video description, this is only their feeding tank. Their real tank is much bigger, and has numerous basking spots. =) Thanks for the concern.
What turtles do you have? Fungus infection can be cured by adding Salt into their water. And also by letting them bask more, basking is perhaps the most useful method of getting rid of fungus.
Also you could try not to place them in water, when my turtles have fungus infection, i only place them in water during feeding time, and then no water for the whole day because those funga thrives in water.
can you please tell me what basking is? Because my turtle has some black stuff on his shell like what abhakam said, the shopkeeper sold me a sick turtle (i think!). I want to get rid of that black stuff ASAP
i did a little studdying and i found out that they are terrortoryal (i CANT spell) but someone elese said that the male res might want to mate and is trying to show that.
It depends, how old are your RES? Check if your male RES is doing the RES Mating dance to your female, it might be that it wants to mate. Males usually aren't territorial against females.. so it should be mating.
To make them healthy and active, and to regain their predatory instincts. Have you bought adult Turtles which have ate pellets their whole life? They don't even regard fish as food and wouldn't hunt them, and are infact afraid of small fish.
I allow my turtles to interact with fish since young, to regard them as natural prey, to allow them to have an alternative food source, not only pellets, this is the basics of rearing a turtle.
Well, their appearance come from the food i feed them. Reptile min and occasional Protein pellets(very expensive), and of course live fish for them to exercise makes them look fit and cute. The origin of the turles.well i wrote that on the video description.you can read it there.
I have a very bad news to tell you, because i live in Asia, a week before sichuan Earthquake, the climate here changed alot. The weather got very hot, and my turtles started to behave very weird. And 5 of them..died.
Wow they attack. My RES love small crickets. I just started to add feeder fish but they are disappearing very slowly. They go after crickets like these go after the fish.
Dam those turtle are viscious!! I have two baby RES and some goldfish in their tank...but they don't go that crazy to try and a get them. They won't even eat the fishes!!
How old are your RES? Lol, mine were like yours, timid and afraid of any other creature living in their tank but once they are at the age of around 1 year old, my fishes and crayfishes start to disappear.
It also depends on the size of the fishes you put in with them, if the fish are too big, they will not see them as food and attack them visciously!
Mine were trained to hunt =), because i feed them feeder fish every week since they were 1 year old!
Holy crap! That's a lot of turtles! LoL. I have 2. Are you going to keep all of your turtles when they're full-grown and buy some sort of 1 million gallon tank (HAHA), or are you going to let them go?
Lol, how old are your 2 turtles? Well, i actually have a big outdoor pond which i spend quite a big sum of money for some time ago. The big ponds now contain my 11 rescued res, 1 malayan box turtle, 1 black marsh turtle and 1 pig nose turtle. I believe the big pond is big enough for me to release these turtles in when they become adults.
Anyway, please check out my other video of my old rescued Melanistic RES "taking on" 4 Feeder fish!
