For those of you who don't know, THIS version, nor any other version like this in press is absolutely NOT the original. It was done by DJ Shawn T.(Shawn Hardison). He made the track, and it was used for the basketball team during warm-ups in high school at Hales Franciscan back in 86-87. It was played during our homecoming, and whom ever was DJ'ing the party that night, it was OVER. The song was on WKKC that weekend, and those other versions took off. Shawn NEVER got credit..... I
Chicago is the Babylon, and birthplace for basically anything that has roots connecting to house music, pissed me off more than anything to hear that the Chicago garage was converted to a Verizon store, RETRIBUTION I SAY!
Man I remember when I was a teenager...house head for sure, catching as many house parties as me and my friends could. Whether it was at a club, hotel, high school gymnasium...bangin it in your car, your mommas car, it didnt matter. This is classic...oh it takes me back to when sh*t was fun and parties were parties. U come out drippin sweat and hairdo was gone after that. That was the sh*t for sure.
Dr Phibes from Belgium used this loop on ''acid story" in 1988 ! a friend, professional of Industrial music in this year, had a tape with this loop. all the track was the loop ! it was from an industrial band maybe from belgium...
the version of Lil' Louis is near original.
I"m sure, original is from Europ and it's an industrial track
sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand me !
@RAKSONGTIRAK I'm glad somebody else also noticed that the basic loop occured in Dr. Phibes' Acid Story one year before Video Clash was released, but i find it hard to tell where it's coming from originally: everybody is sampling everybody in house music :-)
@penshi For those of you who don't know, THIS version, nor any other version like this in press is absolutely NOT the original. It was done by DJ Shawn T.(Shawn Hardison). @penshi everybody is sampling everybody period... tho i find house music to have the most varied forms of sampling, from straight up rips to mosaics of sound...
Are you kidding me? Pay attention. This came out in 1989. Acid Crash or Video Crash came out in 1988. The Producer Rodney Bakerr actually come up with the drum beat design.
@mrsdottie514 Are you sure?? Video Crash is more popular but doesn't mean it came first...so where did Lil Louis get THIS version from? Why is the story always "well Tyree stole it and rushed it out" and "LIl Louis had it first but released it later." Who knows and who cares anymore? Both are great classics! They both have a place in house history.
sounds so simple but back in the days of house for me, it was the ultimate shit, didnt knew it was fom lil louis, respect for the man! love this record! ouwe park!!!! 1992 is for you
@MrMeesterzuiper I interviewed Marshall Jefferson the other night who informed me he produced the song. Lil Louis released it and neglected to put his name on it.
There is actually much controversy with this track. Marshall Jefferson says Lil' Louis actually jacked him for the beat after a jam session. Tyree's 'Acid Crash' and Mike Dunn's "Magic Feet" are responses to Lil Louis' theft.
On a personal note. I found the original pressing in the dollar Hip Hop section this afternoon. Gotta dig!
Interviewed Marshall the other night, yup it's true. Except he said Tyree released his rip off first, which is why this release is called "THE ORIGINAL Video Clash"
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this is not the original joynt!! LiL Louis stole this shit from some cats at Hales Franciscan. The original sounded funkier and said the word hales when the 808 dropped!! It never came out on wax!!
Much love to the Hales crew and to Shawn Hardison. Most of my guys came out of Hales in 1987...are are all really tight with Shawn. So I respect your decision to look out for him.
so you must know all my people...i sponsored the hales 20th anniversary barbecue out behind the school last year...and was at the party in the cafeteria the night before!
To be honest I don't like the record version of it. I like the unrelease version lil louis use to play, it sounded more like garbage cans and the crashes was killer, and then it broke down with strings OMG now where the hell is that cassette copy:)
The ORIGINAL version you May have heard was made by Shawn Hardison known as DJ Shawn T. He made the beat for the basketball team at Hales Franciscan during their warmups. Anyways, Hales had a homecoming party, I forget which DJ's showed up, but was played during the party, and a week later, heard it on WKKC, and the other versions followed. He got no recognition or anything for that. Welcome to the music industry. I on the other hand have that copy/ on tape, never made it to wax.
Not many people know about that orginal story and it was because of this stealing of each others songs amonst the DJ's that helped kill the House Scene. That unfortunately allowed Rap to escalate and House died from lack of unity amongst the DJ's and clubs started closing down left and right.
Actually, House died off because it had virtually NO name or face recognition. You couldn't make videos for it. You couldn't market and promote it by DJs, and listeners who didn't dance to it couldn't relate or understand what made the music so special. It's strengths are actually its biggest commercial weaknesses. It's a beautiful niche and a delicacy for those who know, unlike rap.
well, move to the Netherlands and you will pleasantly surprised that house music is STILL alive and kicking ass here! it's so bad here that every year we can choose between at least 5 major and 20-something smaller outdoor and indoor festivals!
Marshall Jefferson continued: "Well, he (Lil' Louis) was right there when I recorded "Video Clash" and he insisted that I give him a copy. At that time Lil Louis had the biggest parties in Chicago, where more than five thousand kids would regularly show up, so I gave him a copy to play. He took it home, took off Kym's vocals and edited it. Somehow, that piece of shit became his biggest record."
damnnn.... pure chicago house.. 1st time I heard this was end of '89 at this club 4 blocks down from palladium, sneak in thru the door by the garage bins lol... this probably only like my 6th time hearing it..nice..

This is a killer. Always in my box , you can mix this with virtually anything. Some of the rip off versions arent bad either. The "magic feet" mix of this is ok, and Acid crash is rocking too.
You know that seemed to be the story with a lot of old house tunes. House Nation, Love Can't Turn Around etc... someone would make one and play it at a party or on the radio and that version wouldn't come out then a weak one would show up
Mr. G's, The Rink, Screamin' Wheels, The Bismarck... When I was a shorty on the SOuthside we used to battle House O Matic, U Phi U, & The Bruzz to this @ the clubs!

89/90 Photon in Harvey. New years eve/day. We were standing around thinking it was another McCormick Party then....The lights started going off and on and he cranked blackout. 1st time I ever heard it. What made it even better is the last day of school he put that plugger in my hand I was the 1st one out the school on break headed for the bus. Wish i still had that plugger.
Photon was where Club O is now!!! I remember that!!! I thought that was East Hazel Crest? But I do have that same plugger too!!! Mendel forever!!! The house group I was in was called Front Row!!!! Taking me back!!! Mellodee123
I remember having a record title Acid Crash witht the same beat, but I don't believe it was by Lil Louis, it's been a while since I played any of my house records, or any records for that matter. I'll have to go dig through the milk crates.
Mike dunn - magic feet
Tyree - acid crash
V - room - v-shaped
Speedy j - minimal
Outlander - vamp
Armando - morsecode
Listen to them and you will notice something :)
