He is alright, he isnt amazing. Can you remember his boot camp auditions, singing queen and stuff, couldnt sing half of the songs and lost count the number of time he went out of tune. He got better but he isnt a great!

He does have a great voice. However, it's just not my style. A composer wrote a song with a particular combination of notes for a reason and Rhydian simply refuses to respect that written combination which to me spoils the song's value and impact. He should stick to the composer's composition.

Listen to this, and then listen to the album version, and try and point out any differences between the two. You wont find any. The one good thing about all the shitty musicians around now is how much more amazing they make performers like Rhydian look by comparison. A guy who DOESN'T need tons of post-processing effects to hit the incredible notes you hear in the songs on his album is pretty rare these days.
Its a complete joke he didn't win X Factor, one of the best singers ever on X Factor, he was born to sing, he was musically and vocally a genius. Not many singers like Rhydian make it on X Factor because there are a very very very few as good as him out there in the big world. He's a gift from God musically.

Rhydian is exceptional live. His training means he doesn't need the manipulation of a recording studio, you still get the quality of a stunning voice night after night . Also he is a born entertainer and brings something fresh to each show, whether it is an unexpected duet with Hayley Westenra or just him playing the keyboard while singing a new song destined to be on his new album.

Well, all I can say is that I thought this performance was flawless, I never liked this song until I heard this version, but after watching this & subsequently buying his CD last year I now think this song is brilliant - but in saying that I think that Rhydian could sing the phonebook and it would still sound brilliant, he is a singer of immense charm and quality.

I have heard versions of this song by Sinatra, Elvis, and Il Divo. This is the one that fnally convinced me of one simple thing: none of them can touch the original Man of La Mancha version, by Richard Kiley.
Not that this is bad, but he overdoes it far, far too much, and without the context of Don Quixote, it just seems overblown and... silly.

I wish that people wouldn't keep calling him an opera singer. He is a musical theater type singer. Two different things entirely. Opera singers don't do well in musical theater. Their voices are too large. Rhydian has a large voice, but also has the flexibility to sing theater songs. And "Phantom of the Opera" is not a true opera either. It is a musical.
Sort of agree with you, Jim, although Rhydian did win several presigious awards for singing true opera arias whilst at Birmingham Conservatoire (including the Mario Lanza prize for his recital of 'Largo al factotum' from Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini & 'Avant de quitter ces lieux' from Faust, by Gounod. SERIOUS operatic arias! It's all on his wiki page.
I think what confuses people is his unique ability to 'mask' his operatic voice and sing in a pop style. Not an easy skill by any means

I have tonight returned from seeing him in the CIA in Cardiff, he was absolutely amazing and exceeded my expectations so much. His voice is so powerful and he has a great sense of humour. A real Superstar!!
Rhydian has sold 600,000+ copies of his album (double platinum) and is producing album no. 2. Also, right this moment, he is playing his Sold Out Tour.And the reviews coming in are superb. All others from XF4 (incl the winner) have been dropped &their combined tour -SD&LJ- has been mostly cancelled after very low sales. Rhydian proved the point that he is World Class and the oublic are buying into him as an artist. The others missed the boat..
It's all about opinions, adafunk. No-one is correct and no is incorrect about music as it's not a science, it's an art form. Personally, and of course I'm biased, I think Rhydian's cover is certainly the most powerful, as he absolutely smashes it whereas Williams croons it. Like I say, it's all about opinions at the end of the day.

While I've always enjoyed Andy's singing because it was always about "listening" to a very pleasant, smooth singing voice, I think you'll admit Andy could have never done with this Song what Rhydian did at the 4:00 minute mark in his performance on this Video.
Rhydian has a Stage Performer Voice and that will be his best element to perform in eventually with The West End and Broadway both in his Future..
I'm not disputing the fact rhydian is an amazing singer, he is talented and really is going to go a long way, but, Andy Williams is a legend for a reason, and it's just a matter of taste which version is better to be honest. They both perform it in their own ways, and although I enjoy Rhydian's version, Andy will always be a winner, and there are also things he could do, that Rhydian couldn't.

Rhydian has been announced as one of the stars in the musical adaptation of the War of the Worlds. The former X Factor finalist will join Jason Donovan and Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon in the show, composed and produced by Jeff Wayne. Tickets are on sale now, but going fast.

This is truely legend. Slowly building the power and tone as he "reaches up the unreachable star", the three keychange part at the middle is unbelievable and the slow moment after where he is "laid to his rest" is full of nuances and emotion that just tingles your spine. A truely defining moment of live performances. IMO definitely a best version of this song.

Rhydian is exceptional live. His training means he doesn't need the manipulation of a recording studio, you still get the quality of a stunning voice night after night . Also he is a born entertainer and brings something fresh to each show, whether it is an unexpected duet with Hayley Westenra or just him playing the keyboard while singing a new song destined to be on his new album.

The reason that rhydian is marketable is not only because he is confident and has a really good voice, but its because he isent just a singer, hes a performer, leon is a bit more of just a singer, a bit like joe from this year

People seem to forget what a massive market there is in the classical charts. Yes, maybe Rhydian might not be as successful this time (although I think he will) but he will be high in the classical music market. Jeez, we don't all have to listen to garbage pop

It's a much better than the first one, it's of the highest quality.
Do you think that Karl Jenkins, who is the best living classical composer of our time would produce Rhydian album if it's not good?
Or Dame Kiri Te Kinawa would sing duet with Rhydian on the album, or the most famous baritone in the world, Bryn Terfel would give his voice to blend perfectly with Rhydian's vocals on this album?

Well, all I can say is that I thought this performance was flawless, I never liked this song until I heard this version, but after watching this & subsequently buying his CD last year I now think this song is brilliant - but in saying that I think that Rhydian could sing the phonebook and it would still sound brilliant, he is a singer of immense charm and quality.
Looking forward to his forthcoming 2nd album in November 2009.

I have heard versions of this song by Sinatra, Elvis, and Il Divo. This is the one that fnally convinced me of one simple thing: none of them can touch the original Man of La Mancha version, by Richard Kiley.
Not that this is bad, but he overdoes it far, far too much, and without the context of Don Quixote, it just seems overblown and... silly.

I wish that people wouldn't keep calling him an opera singer. He is a musical theater type singer. Two different things entirely. Opera singers don't do well in musical theater. Their voices are too large. Rhydian has a large voice, but also has the flexibility to sing theater songs. And "Phantom of the Opera" is not a true opera either. It is a musical.

Sort of agree with you, Jim, although Rhydian did win several presigious awards for singing true opera arias whilst at Birmingham Conservatoire (including the Mario Lanza prize for his recital of 'Largo al factotum' from Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini & 'Avant de quitter ces lieux' from Faust, by Gounod. SERIOUS operatic arias! It's all on his wiki page.
I think what confuses people is his unique ability to 'mask' his operatic voice and sing in a pop style. Not an easy skill by any means

I have tonight returned from seeing him in the CIA in Cardiff, he was absolutely amazing and exceeded my expectations so much. His voice is so powerful and he has a great sense of humour. A real Superstar!!

Rhydian has sold 600,000+ copies of his album (double platinum) and is producing album no. 2. Also, right this moment, he is playing his Sold Out Tour.And the reviews coming in are superb. All others from XF4 (incl the winner) have been dropped &their combined tour -SD&LJ- has been mostly cancelled after very low sales. Rhydian proved the point that he is World Class and the oublic are buying into him as an artist. The others missed the boat..

It's all about opinions, adafunk. No-one is correct and no is incorrect about music as it's not a science, it's an art form. Personally, and of course I'm biased, I think Rhydian's cover is certainly the most powerful, as he absolutely smashes it whereas Williams croons it. Like I say, it's all about opinions at the end of the day.

While I've always enjoyed Andy's singing because it was always about "listening" to a very pleasant, smooth singing voice, I think you'll admit Andy could have never done with this Song what Rhydian did at the 4:00 minute mark in his performance on this Video.
Rhydian has a Stage Performer Voice and that will be his best element to perform in eventually with The West End and Broadway both in his Future..

I'm not disputing the fact rhydian is an amazing singer, he is talented and really is going to go a long way, but, Andy Williams is a legend for a reason, and it's just a matter of taste which version is better to be honest. They both perform it in their own ways, and although I enjoy Rhydian's version, Andy will always be a winner, and there are also things he could do, that Rhydian couldn't.
