The "abomination of desolation" (Roman Armies surrounding Jerusalem in Luke 21 and "people of the prince" in Daniel 9:26) caused the Great Tribulation in Judea and Jerusalem. When the disciples saw this they flee elsewhere and did not enter Jerusalem which was place under siege by the Romans causing untold sufferings according to the Jewish historian Josephus. Josephus said nothing in Jewish history since the beginning of time can compare in terms of human suffering and distress with that event.
The Nation of Israel and the modern State of Israel are not the same thing.

Read Galatians 3 and you'll know that Israel is anyone who has faith in Jesus christ. The restoration happened in the 1st century.

I think I see a way that these verses could fit into a preterist interpretation. It would modify both views.
