  • @paguscorvi Ha ha No a Chinese is a gybing situation where the top half of the rig goes one side and the bottom half remains on the same side. I suppose it gets it's name from the Chinese junk rig a fully battened mainsail rig which was I suppose prone to it as was the western gaff rig . I think they put a strop on the boom going downwind as they are here to stop the boom slamming across if they get into trouble so only the top half goes across if they accidentally g so "a chinese Gybe"
