I'm Canadian from Toronto and this is one of my favourite songs. The great thing about Canadian music is that it always represents Canadian values and with this song and video just re-iterates it. To me what Sam is getting at with song is that right now Detroit is struggling but let's get back to the basics and remember Detroit for who it really is. I love this song!! Makes me feel proud to be a Canadian!. Detroit is on it's way back up.
wow...great video, great song! love the old clips, I was just using one of those multie-guns for the lug nuts a couple weeks ago! Go Detroit!....and Flint ;-)
Stop buying so damn many foreign cars America. Have some pride in your domestic products. There is little reason to buy foreign now as the quality gap is all but gone and American cars are some of the best in their classes.
Detroit needs to wake up and realize it has to let the manufacturing dinosaur of the past is dead. They need to invigorate the city's economy by embracing new industries--sustainable, knowledge and skill based industries that corps can't afford to send to Mexico or China. This nostalgia and clinging to past glory doesn't help things.
@in2itivelady Really? So I guess that's why Ford's products have been steadily improving and GM has been staging a big comeback? Not to mention Japanses quality has been slipping over the last decade quite noticably Exactly what industries are you referring to?
can't stand this useless mormon commercial every time I see a video of Vevos. not sure what they were going for with it but they can't be winning over too many quality recruits.
The speaker at the very beginning was Jerry Cavanagh, who was mayor during the '67 riots. It came from a promotional film that was shot in '63 or '64 as part of Detroit's bid for the 1968 Olympics, which were awarded to Mexico City.
Sam Roberts knows his history. He graduated from college with a Bachelor's in History. He's from Quebec. Quebec, Ontario and Detroit, down through New Orleans, were all part of what was known as New France, until about 1760. And Mr. Roberts wrote a song chronicling Detroit, pronounced as "Day-twah" in French. It's refreshing to have someone sing a positive song about Detroit for a change.
I'm Canadian; love Sam. Loved this song right off the bat. BUT... about 1:30 into it there's a couple of flashes of the Chrysler assembly line of **OBVIOUS** Barracudas! My mom had one in 1965! Another HUGE reason I love this song!!!
Great video. I do business in Detroit (I live in North Carolina) and love going there. People that say "why are you going to Detroit" don't understand what a great city it is.
oh lord, god forbid your city should become popular!!
Dude, its rock n' roll. Listen to the lyrics and look and how the video is put together. The point is that it is about the nature of nostalgia. Forgive the man for making an awesome video and not doing "any real research" on your city. Its a love letter man, pal.
I like the song a lot, but being born and raised here, the last minute or so really kinda shed a tear. I was not around (born) yet for the 67 riots, but I was certainly born to see the aftermath years later. I like Sam Roberts' song. But Christ Almighty do we have some work to do. Long live Detroit! We'll be back soon enough (already here)!!!!

There's nothing like having a bar with about 80 people in it singing this song in unison!
