Although the VA has been very slow to acknowledge the ailments from Agent Orange its new Director is rapidly trying to make amends for the decades of "looking the other way" with regard to Veteran claims. The VA will treat the Vets, but obtaining C & P for specifically Agent Orange has been lackadaisical at best. The VA had a bad habit of misdiagnosing their patients while traditional medical professionals had no problem discovering most of the symptoms and the cause of the conditions. The US govt. protected the big corporations (Monsanto) and withheld documentation and evidence that clearly demonstrated they were aware of the environmental dangers and health risks to our soldiers and the civilian population.

I believe dioxin is the chemical culprit in Vietnam not Agent Orange. Dioxin was a contaminant in some AO, not an ingrediant. Dioxin is readily and heavily priduced in Vietnam every year by buring poor quality coal in heating, cooking and smelting ores, the burning of plastics in waste incineration. What the US sprayed has long since sedimented out in clays and soils in Vietnam. Dioxin is fat saluable and not water soluable therefore not carried in water resources as claimed by VN govt..

I had a history teacher in high school who had hard benign tumors under his skin from Agent Orange exposure. He was a U.S. Army Green Beret in 'Nam. His daughter was normal healthwise even though he had obvious health problems associated with agent orange exposure.

That's terrible. I don't know why some people are affected one way and others another way. This particular teacher was the only person I have ever known personally who knew they were exposed to it and had obvious physical affects from it. My own father served there too and was never exposed to agent orange and has never had any adverse health conditions associated with his Army service. The whole thing is tragic.

No matter how well- or ill-informed the military's actions were, the fact remains that Vietnamese and Americans are dying from horrendous diseases caused by U.S. action, in violation of the international law banning the use of poison in warfare. My father was a doc during the war in 1969. He went out with the special forces to local villages to treat the people, it was during this time that he was exposed to Agent Orange. He passed away on 20 December 1999 from soft tissue sarcoma after 8 major surgeries and an 11 year battle. How many more will die. Untold thousands I am sure.
