The Chevrolet Volt is a good car. I test drove one last year and it was as expected. Engine was strong yet quiet. Ride is rigid yet comfortable. Interior design is high tech.
very cool review, thx for it! Only think I dont like is that its not recharging batter when running on gasoline engine and that its of course too expensive ;)
*phew*... the engine is extremely loud, that touch-button center stack would drive me to tears, and the interior and exterior styling are pretty lacking, given the price. not for me, yet.
You mentioned that the car runs on pure battery power by default until it needs to charge them. When you started it up, an engine sound was still heard. Was this just played by the in-car stereo?
@garfield2889 not so much, air contains almost 78% of nitrogen, in fact you just use much nitrogen, only one thing could be the oxidation, without oxigen nothing can be oxidate.
Not a bad video, but he did get one thing wrong. When the battery gets down to the predetermined level, depending on what drive setting you have it on, the engine will cut in and start running the generator. The electricity from the generator both charges the battery, and runs the motor. When more power is needed, the battery provides the extra electricity needed. So, when it's running on the engine, it doesn't have less power, it has the same as when it's running on only the battery.
I drove him great experience but the screen's reminds me at my first computer screen's from the early eighties. Then i search for the Back to the Future button but i didn't found it.maybe later.
For a hybrid/green car this is by far the best looking but that glossy plasticky center stack is god awful. Looks chincy and doesn't fit in with the rest of the interior.
Here's what needs to be done in the next 10 years. They need to make the batteries last more than 500 miles and the gasoline engine needs to give same HP as battery. I believe he said it was about 50 HP less with gas engine. Also, that price needs to come way down and every city in America needs to get plugging stations with easy access to them. Electric cars are a great idea, but I'll wait a while til they improve on them further.
@mikerules666 - Hello Mike, I haven't watched this video yet, but from others that I have seen I think you will find that the generator ( driven by the engine ) and the battery both work together to drive the vehicle, when the batter charge falls below the preset level. So there's no reduction in power when it's running on gasoline. If this video shows something different, and this guy is correct, then I stand to be corrected. :-)
I love this car and the 8 year, or 100,000 mile warranty. The price tag is a kick in the face, I really want to buy an American hybrid around $13,000.00 to $15,000.00 new. When the local U.S. manufactures figure this out, they will sell cars.
I have a Prius and love it, but this is the next level. We certainly live in interesting times. I can't wait to see what innovations the next 5 to 10 years bring. The future is now!
I'm in love with this car, but it's way out of my budget. Hopefully revolutions in battery tech come soon. That, or the gov. gives much higher tax breaks for these cars... 15,000 please? :)
The Chevy Volt is a great car for those who commute only 35 miles a day. $1.00 / day. It has range extender engine that gets you 280 miles. Good work Chevrolet. KWH is a Lie by the way.
i think that the hybrids suck, i would have a car that runs on electric and gas at 25:19-25:33 that's better because when your battery dies the gas motor then powers the car. the nissan leaf that's a no no because it just runs on electric and if you are driving on the highway and your battery dies then you would be stranded. so 100% thumbs up for the chevrolet volt i want one but there so damn expensive
@RichardJoash thank you for your comment brother... trust me like what happened to iPhone and iPad whereby every one started to follow, all other car makers will follow the Volt. this car is already a legend....
This thing is so god damn ugly. I'm really hoping they create a synthetic gas so I'm not forced to drive something as unattractive as this years down the road.
I'd be interested in seeing an overall cost of ownership comparison over five/ten years between the volt and a similar looking 4 cylinder gasoline powered compact car before considering purchase of one of these vehicles.
I support green energy/technology, but not willing to spend thousands of extra dollars just to save on greenhouse gas emissions.
Wow, very nice informative, detailed info on the total car.....and without misinformation. Not really a review though, more of an infomercial.
As far as the price, it will come down in time, especially after the federal rebate expires. Considering the technology that was put into this car, it's not a bad price, at this early period in EVs.
@JMCporsche Once technology that's in this car becomes more prevalent, the price will go down. Look at the Prius; that car began pretty close to $30k and now starts around $20k.
@JMCporsche Agreed! For this HYBRID based on the 1.4 Vauxhall Astra it costs just under £40,000 in the UK. The engine has a direct mechanical connection to the gearbox, so it isn't an electric car like a Nissan Leaf and various adverts in the UK were pulled as it was falsely advertised. It's called a Vauxhall Ampera here. It costs a LOT to charge and uses many KWh at 13p/unit. A diesel turbo Ford Focus works out a lot cheaper, even to buy and run 2 of them. Battery life is 3yrs too.
Am I the only one that thinks this car is really ugly? I mean all these environmentally friendly cars are really good, nice on the inside but ugly on the outside. This kinda looks like the Prius from the back. If I were to buy a new car, I wouldn't even consider the Volt due to its looks.
$46k... hmmm This or a Charger SRT-8..... tough choice....
not.
I'm sorry, since this vehicle only appeals to people wanting to stay green, Then it should not even be available to come with the luxury's of a Radio, A/C, Backup Camera, Leather, etc. because it defeats the purpose.
@PleaseQuit Because luxuries in general are not green nor economically smart, therefor defeating the purpose of buying this ridiculous vehicle. I'm sure this car could save even more energy if those options were not offered. :)
@moparsrock I'm sorry, but why would anyone want a car without a radio, air conditioning, or a backup camera? If GM made a car like this, no one would buy it. More people would buy a used car and this would be bad for GM or for anyone for this matter. Look at the Prius, it has all kinds of luxury options and even more the Insight has most of these options for under $25,000. The only options that the Insight doesn't have are the leather seats and backup camera. Still pretty economical.
@moparsrock It is all a financial thing. People want everything for nothing and car manufacturers know that and try to please everyone so they can make a profit.
When North America will learn from Japan about G-Book Navigation _just to punch phone number of destination and system i ready? Also why back up camera (worth about 30$) is optional like some luxury good ?
@gradxg I know for a fact the prius has alot more head and leg room (personal experience). It also has more range and doesn't need to be plugged in. And it costs almost half what this does.
@1waffleiron I live in england and over here a sedan or saloon is a car with a separate trunk lid. If the glass lifts we call it a hatchback, soz my bad i didnt realise it was different over there, but i meant i wish it has a separate trunk lid and looked more like a conventional car it has that prius styling to it as kyle mentioned
What an awful racket from the engine, it sounds like a diesel. Over all I'm impressed with the car, but all that technology in a car GM built scares the hell out of me.

Honestly, would you guys stop rapping on him for not uploading in HD? Youtube f's with it half the time anyway, and the videos are not jagged or pixellated.
Obviously his videos aren't as high quality as your HD car reviews. Oh wait, you don't have HD car reviews? Then stop criticizing.
As far as the Volt goes, it's cool but definitely not worth it.
@PantstofryPWNZ I disagree, this dude is getting payed at least $3k a month(I've even heard it was $6k one month)from Youtube for making these videos, I think people have a right to critize him, if they want if it wasn't for them/us the viewers he wouldn't be earning money. IMO he should go to HD, its been asked 100's if not 1000's of times,I don't see why he can't spend $500-1000 to get a HD camera and a decent internet service when he is earning at least $36,000 a year from these videos either.
@abram7117 Then don't watch his videos. He won't miss you. HD on youtube is only marginally better. He'll probably get an HD camera at some point, but he's doing this, pharmacy school, and spending time with his girlfriend. Lay off him some. Besides, if you want true "HD", drag your lazy ass off the computer, go to a dealer and see one in person. It's not like these are pixelated, you can see the details quite well.

What an awful racket from the engine, it sounds like a diesel. Over all I'm impressed with the car, but all that technology in a car GM built scares the hell out of me.

Great looking car. It would be nice if they came out with a regular version of this car instead of this Hybrid thing.

the cruze is the gas engined car this is based, on that's the closest thing your going to get, as this car is not designed to have a real transmission, or engine power

@PantstofryPWNZ lazyass? WOW man just just FU.K off! Obvsiously you took what I said way out of context.
