After this fight Hagler said he wanted to be patient and pick his shots, but Hamsho was so dirty with his head butts and holding that Marvin got pissed off, and you saw the result.
This is maybe the last fight Hagler had speed and zip in his hands and feet. After this he pounded out Hearns. Then in the slugfest with Mugabi and "loss" to Leonard he wasn't the same fighter. Watch that fight after this one, and you'll see what I mean.
Hamsho earned this 2nd fight with Hagler by dominating Wilfredo Benitez in a fight that was absolutely embarrassing and humiliating for Benitez. who just laid on the ropes and did nothing to try and win.
The best part about this fight is that Hagler beat the ever living dogshit out of a dirty, filthy, cheating Muzzie piece of crap. The only regret is that the ref didn't let it last longer and allow more permanent damage to be done to that Muzzie trash.
is this from the same Hamsho al7aramiyyi annawar? they have a lot of money but noooo class whatsoever .... nawar ! and their men are soo afriad of their women ! hahaha
remember watching minter get shafted against hamsho, went up the pub after and got pissed...would've liked to see if minter could've done anything different against hagler
Hamsho scored a 10 rd (yes I have the fight) Split decision over Minter...I scored the fight the same as Jerry Roth and had Minter winning by 2. A controversial decision in the UK very rarely remembered in the US. Very good fight

As far as I know, out of Marvelous Marvin Hagler's 12 middleweight title defenses, the only one that is not on YouTube as of now is the first Hamsho fight, which Marvin won on cuts in the 11th round. This was in the Rosemont Horizon (near Chicago) and was co-featured with Mike Weaver-James Tillis (WBA heavyweight title). Anybody out there have either of those fights on tape? I didn't see them, but knew that they took place.
I wouldn't say Hagler was a dirty fighter. He was a highly experienced powerful, fit skilled fighter- boxer who could handle rough house fighters who would use dirty tactics. Eg Autofermo+ Duran
The fights with Hamsho are a good example of Hagler adapting to deal with the forearm leads, the elbows + head butts that were part of Hamhos attack. I don't remember this 1984 fight,
I do remember the 1st contest, 11 brusing, not -all -in -the- rulebook rounds, with Hagler winning by TKO.
I would have been very interesting to see all them: Duran, Haggler, Hearns and Leonard facing Carlos Monzon, cause Monzon was absolutely total different man than these mugabis, minters, hamshos. Monzon always looked so slow but he really rocks and was so difficult to beat.
As unimpressive as he looked in this bout, Hamsho was one of the most physically strong fighters I ever saw. He just couldn't deal with Hagler's skill, especially his powerful counterpunches.
The best switch hitter, and the best right hand. The right hand hooks, jabs, goes underneath, goes down low, goes striaght over the top. Might not be as frightening as Tommy's Hot-Rod, but its the most versatile, accurate and punishing right hand in the game. What a fighter. What a chin as well.

Friggin Hamsho head-ramming Hagler in round one like a charging bull...
Bad style and not a smart move either, considering the rest of the match.

the body shot at 6:02 was the best body shot that i ever saw ,it paralyzed his right leg!
mbbll 2 years ago
That was a good call, mbbll, the problem was that I think Hamsho was injured.
No matter, who didn't get injured against MMH???
Canamana42 2 years ago
Yeah was a solid body shot, but Hamsho actually twisted his ankle when he went down. I think I read he injured it pre-fight too.

Mustafa was a VERY GIFTED FIGHTER. Don't take anything from Marvelous but I loved Mustafa.

Hamsho is plan dirty and that's why Marvin Hagler knocked him out in the third.
Hamsho tried to blame Hagler of head butting him, it was Hamsho who caused his own downfall.
Hagler didn't do anything wrong and won fair and square.
peasah2005 3 years ago
They were BOTH tough, dirty, southpaw fighters, but Hagler Hagler was great, while Hamsho was very good- that's the difference.

What a classic.
