  • YOu know how hard it is to do wing chun when you're much taller than your oppenent... I mean for get the sticky hands all thats left is stomp kicks and chain punching

  • volevo dire a quello più bassino.....se hai paura di prendere pugni e scappi sempre hai sbagliato sport!!!!

  • @powerofthroughts It doesn't matter how big or small you are to learn Wing Chun. If you say this, then the tall people can't choose to protect themselves using this specific style!

  • Um, I don't think this is really Wing Chun, because your friend is moving backwards. One of Wing Chun's rules is to never move backwards

  • Gotta love these Style A vs Style B videos. This one with a kid against a large man. Who doesn't look like he knows Wing Chun. Then again there are so many so-called WC schools out there. What you need is a world champion from Style A vs the current world champion from Style B. Will we ever see that? :)

  • You wasted a lot of energy throwing kicks that could not possibly land, because of the size difference. Just a word of advice: if you're going to fight someone that size, you need to learn to open up and let THEM attack. Evade their attack while moving IN so that you can actually reach them. Moving backwards, as you did throughout this session, lets them use their reach while preventing you from being any threat at all.

  • @powerofthroughts there is nothing that could prevent bigger guys from practicing Wing Chun. The size doesn't matter anything in Wing Chun.

  • Craig Marduk vs Hwoarang!!!

  • stop running away when he comes at you, you gotta use bjj and break his shit!!! choke him out

  • and where's the WT?

  • I noticed that when you reverse your body position the wc guy does the same, he seems to like to mirror you, so, I was thinking, next time you reverse your body attack his center with fast front kicks and punches right at the moment when he's in the middle of mirroring your body, you just might catch him off balance and unprepared. good luck, keep it up, you're doing good ;)

  • @bagchun bad idea `_ ~ wing chun is ment to protect and counter attack the center...if u go for the center thats what we call "jumping for the bone"

  • The main techniques of Wing Chun were created with the assumption that your opponent is the same size or larger. Fighting someone that much smaller means that you are actually somewhat at a disadvantage, at least as far as trained responses go.

  • @sparaig Nah. Just practice more footwork and chigerk.

  • @tecromatica run if possible like anyone with a lick of sense should

  • your friend is a monster

  • Wung chun? where? it is look linke the big guy just now the name "wing chun" XD

  • Where's the Wing Chun? I think the big guy felt sorry for the litle asian over there.

  • Lumbering bear, hopping flea

  • If that is Wing Chun I am the freakin queen of England!

  • God bless ya kid.

This is not a fair fight. He's twice your size.

That being said, you're fighting the worst possible way against someone who's that much bigger.

Don't come straight in. Step to the outside of his lead foot. He'll likely take a hop-step back as he tries to land a cross punch. You need to (quickly) knock that cross to the outside and step DEEP so you can finally land some attacks.

It's an insanely difficult opponent you've chosen.

    Good luck

  • @gooseriffic Being twice a person's size doesn't matter unless it goes to the ground, and if it goes to the ground with someone who is (supposedly) Wing Chun, they're doing it wrong. Wing Chun is about generating power without strength or size, so Wing Chun doesn't do better or worse against people who are larger in size. The only thing you can do is be aware of their reach and adjust accordingly, but for those of us who are skilled, I can assure you that size has never mattered to us.

  • @Susejlatemyvaeh absurd

  • Ryu vs Zangeif

  • Who the hell is supposed to be doing Wing Chun here? Retreating isn't part of Wing Chun. Retreating is for someone who is unsure of themselves and doesn't know what to do, which a Wing Chun fighter is not. Kicks are not a problem for Wing Chun to deal with, so I don't know what the hell the guy in the black shirt is doing, but it isn't Wing Chun. Neither of them have proper structure, but I'll at least give the little guy props for having forward intent.

  • @Susejlatemyvaeh it's obviously a sparring match which neither wants to really close the distance. when the tang soo do guy comes close enough for kick don't just let him escape. he can never run as fast back/sidewards than you can forwards. you really have to take some initiative and not back down for no purpose. in self-defense one cannot be passive. the little guy shows some courage, but how can he win if he cannot even reach to kick him? one's mind must be clear before engaging in sparring

  • @DonMega187 I never said either of them was effective. I mostly agree with you, that is why I gave Tang Soo Do guy a small bit of appreciation that he at least wasn't as afraid - though not nearly assertive enough. The other guy (who I suppose is supposed to be Wing Chun? Even though he follows none of its principles?) was just terrible. I can find no good excuse for him. On the whole, they both seemed afraid, which is not something a skilled martial artist should be affected by.

  • wow bro... if you were in a real fight with your friend here, you wouldnt last 30 seconds.... im serious... looks like he can slap you from 20 yards away!! haha.

    keep practicing though...

  • Didn't see much technique here, just a big guy moving round in circles and a shorter guy kicking the legs of the big guy then jumping out again.

  • standing vs standing.....

  • Were is the wing chun-guy? I see only a bully who is intimidating a killer-dwarf...

  • i know you're not trying to kill each other as it says in your description and that its a friendly match, but you guys barely even tried to do anything. i hope your other fights aren't as boring to watch. i was hoping when i read tang soo do vs. wing chun that i'd see a decent demonstration but i'm sorry, it wasn't even decent. i'm sure you both can do better. please do next time. i'd like to see how those 2 styles actually fair against each other, it'd be really interesting.

  • @CountStoczkowski Agreed. This was amateur even by MMA standards.

  • You go to Yi's Martial Arts too?

  • @mpl2993

Used to. I stopped training there, and now I train at home by myself where I can work at my own pace.

  • @RakaiThwei Pretty good, but don't be afraid to get crazy and mix it up even when your opponent is twice your size. As long as there's no grappling allowed, height and size doesn't really factor in alot in that match as long as it's not point sparring. I'm 5'3 and i messed alot of people up that are like twice my height. I'll post my old vids. :)

  • it doesn't take me 15 seconds to read 8 words...

  • Red striped gi with black belt means he just got his black belt and has not received his blue striped uniform yet. Secondly, TSD/SBD does not wear a black belt (traditionally) but a dark blue belt. Black represents the end, so in TSD they don't wear black belts.

  • Anyone noticed that they were standing mirror?

  • how tall is the shorter fighter? please don't say your five feet four inches!

  • bad Tekken 5 pool music :(

  • there is actually a superior style, it's called brazillian jiu jitsu.

  • @fillthelines0921 what's a bbj guy do against multiple attackers?

  • ryu vs sagat.

  • it is a little kid vesus a grown up man...i mean like come on xD that is not a fair fight

  • @Alesandros356

.....I was 21 when I recorded this sparring session.

  • @RakaiThwei well i ment that the size difference betwine you guys is pretty big and therefore looks a bit unfair

  • @RakaiThwei if u are 21 then u are one hell of a shrimp

  • @RakaiThwei how tall are u? not to offend u

  • @Alesandros356 worked for Kramer on Sinfield

  • Comment removed

  • WHAT IS THE EPIC SOG NAME PLEASE TELL ME I MUST HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow such a cute little man.......this is an extremely unfair fight...... whatever happened to weight classes?? TALK ABOUT DAVID VS GOLIATH!!

  • damn americans.. i thought you were a kid

  • Ryu vs Sagat!!! xD!!

  • his wing chun is no good either

  • i put my money on the short guy

  • Korean BBQ-KID is toooo cute!! Dont;' hurt him! MEANIE!!

  • you can tell that he just got his black belt because he still has the red collar.

  • Truth always hurt..this is rubbish

  • dude this guy towers you what were you thinking sparring him.but i do like what you do and the way you train.

  • @MegaRaver21: Despite the fact that the vid is a bit goofy, I give the Gi dude a lot of credit for mixing it up with the big man. Really, the big man isn't in good shape at all, and wasn't agressive.

If the Gi dude was in better shape and more agressive with a better approach for this situation (such as grappling) he could definitely win.

  • Why spar with someone 3 feet taller than you lol

  • massive size difference

  • big dude got big advantage, tall and strong. doesn't matter how good it the short guy. as long as he know some basic, good enough to fight.

  • it might've been that I was watching this video at 02:40am, but I didn't seem to have seen any wingchun from the tall guy.

  • nothing really happened. Find a someone around your same size to make it more interesting. especially if you can find someone about the same skill level as you. That guy is too big, size does matter. equal skill big man has advantage. small guy skilled big guy unskilled you have a match, unskilled small guy skilled big guy.. you have a massacre

  • WTF Ryu?!? Use Your Hadoukin!!!

  • @darkmastersamurai

[Snickers] Oh man.. Okay, that was good!

  • @RakaiThwei- lol sorry i couldnt help myself lol your sparing partner is huge!!!

  • @RakaiThwei

DAWG ITS ALL ABOUT THE "TIGER UPPERCUT" SAGAT ALL DAY!!!

  • @darkmastersamurai hahahahahh!!!!yeaH!!!

  • Hey guys, cool stuff :)

What school is your friend from? I've been training under Sifu Ryan Kennedy for sometime now, and those colours your friend is wearing are the same colours I see everyday. Same lineage :)

    Keep it up, brothers!

  • @Kos45

My friend is from the William Cheung School of Wing Chun.

  • mortal kombat fighting styles haha its's like Diaru vs quan chi

  • @dakidtag You can't call them "mortal kombat styles", but rather styles in mortal kombat. Saying it that way makes you look ignorant. Not saying that to be rude, but because it's true. Like as if the fact you saw it in that, means that that's how it is known to exist, or have been created. My friend didn't believe shotokan Karate existed only because it was in mortal kombat.

  • Although I'm sure there was loose ground rules. The reach advantage is obvious: his arms are as long as your legs. You would have been best off with feints-- provoking his left arm (which he used primarily for both def/off) and doing a defensive r. roundhouse to the back of his knee. A hit a run strategy. Power for power isn't going to cut it unless you get a miraculous hit.

  • You really should practice with someone of your size

  • hmm my idea if u were to face someone this big... learn iron fist or iron palm, know how to block close range, spin, dodge, etc. Strong inner power and root then finally train to get close to the opponent.

  • Where is the wing tsun? He has not even learned it for correspondence....

  • to be honest u could of won if u could counter attack who ever that is and i suggest u shouldn't use right leg all the time as most people r right leg some people can predict where u can kick so train your left leg too

  • oi rakaithwei! your mate hasnt learnt proper how to fight inside, obv coz of his size he really doesnt have to. but next time you have a spar against him, get in really really close and wail on his stomach, 3 or 4 chain punches should make him feel something, also if you can go at him so he;s not facing you square on will greatly decrease his power. good luck in the future :)

  • style doesnt matter the user does - ip man

  • Try not to give so much ground when retreating, circle around instead. Also, it's a bad idea to spin, it leaves you very vulnerable, as in that instance where he blocked and knocked you down. When dealing with taller opponents, I think you're best off in-fighting, where his long range is negated. Of course, don't just get mauled, but you need to close in and committ a bit more to the strikes. Otherwise, he'll just pound you from a distance. Decent fight.

  • BAIXINHO DESGRASSADO, TIRA ESSA FAIXA DA CINTURA PORRA, VOCÊ É MUITO RUIM... LUTA COM MEDO...

  • WT queen

  • dude for reals you need flat ground that tall guy was way outa your weight class...not a fair fight at all you need all straight kicks

  • roundhouse kick fail. sorry, had to be said. Don't beat yourself up over this fight. That guy is way bigger than you and truth be told if you two are on the same skill level he will win. Unless you aim for his groin which you will in an actual fight.

  • I like your attitude, learning other martial arts for the sake of self cultivation - not to challenge and show off and arrogance, i hope you learn some chinese culture too while sparring wing chun. :)

  • @Terryltk

Good to read comments like this! I mostly train and fight to see personally where I stand as a fighter, and where I need to improve in some areas and of course to find a sense of spiritual refinement and happiness.

I hope to learn more about myself in sparring matches, and to grow as a martial artist.

    Thank you!

  • The most imminent need of you is not to improve your technique, your training, your Tang Soo Do, but your height. As you are a boy only, you can still grow taller with much proteins, calcium phosphate, vitamin D and sunshine ! No. 2 is your technique !

  • @washingzoo1

    ...I'm not a little boy.. I'm 22.

  • @RakaiThwei If you like kicking, maybe try some leg sweeps and kicking at your opponents lower parts. Check out Fujian Dog style of fighting. (Fujian Dog Boxing [狗拳 / 地术犬法] ) or monkey styles. Your opponent does have a height and length advantage, so tactics and techniques need to be modified to match your opponent.

  • @RakaiThwei Oh ! I am sorry ! But being young is good ! You are 22 and I am more than 62 ! nearly 70 ! We can be friends !

  • @RakaiThwei Sorry ! You are still good facing such a husky one ! Keep up your technique !

  • @washingzoo1

    Thanks, I try my best.

  • @RakaiThwei you still little

  • @RakaiThwei how tall are u? not to offend but im just curious

  • вы че, смеетесь?=))))

  • When two people are of near equal skill the bigger man almost always wins -- this is why there are fight weight divisions in all sports -- remember I said of "equal" skills.

I think you employed the right strategy against a larger opponent, which is to stick and move. As you get older an put on weight do a lot of knuckle push ups and pull ups so you gain the power to knock someone out -- you'll need that.

Dump the narrow stance -- you expose your back too much, adopt a Muay Thai stance

  • I'll keep that in mind..

  • ehhh I don't know about the big guys wing chun, but here is a bit a tip for you, utilize faints, and change up your stance(keeps the attacks hard to predict). Good job training with someone bigger though, most people today just whine about weight classes and how fighting someone bigger = automatic lose.

  • How Long has the guy from Sifu William Cheungs been training.

  • Understand the first form thoroughly before moving to chum kiu. Otherwise chum kiu will not help you.

  • Perhaps beginning WC. Practice your forms more. Learn to root. When kicking, WC steps into the area and occupies. Do not fall back. When punching do not lean forward or an opponent will steal your balance and take you down. Spar with an opponent your own size so that you don't develop an over reliance on your size. Learn your range and do not over reach. Top and lower halves of body are not in unison. Practice chum kiu to understand unified movement. You can do it. It just takes practice.

  • the wing tsun guy has his weight on the front?

  • A bit of constructive criticism for the wing chun guy. dont let him get to range 2 keep him at distance with your legs and use your legs more to block kicks rather than what i think is a low gan sau . Step in and take the centre line.

  • Haha you used the song from tekken

  • This is good training because age is just a number and I think that if a man tried to kidnap a kid, the kid will know how to fight back.

  • that kid is gonna be really good :)

  • gon v/s marduk ?

  • How is this a fair fight? If the big guy would do more than just circle he could crush the little guy with one punch...He could easily man handle him.

  • u can't compare between them cos obviously one's way gigantic than the other therefore they couldn't really use their full combat potential martial arts against each other + this is more of a friendly muck around rather than an intense comp.

  • I'm liking the fact that the larger man picked up the smaller man off the floor when he went down :) very good sense of respect there :) *thumbs-up*

  • The guy may be a Wing Chun practitioner but I didnt see very much of it in this. I'm still a beginner at it myself but I saw a few moments I could have gotten inside his centerline and just tore into him.

  • actually the best saying is "there's no superior style, only superior fighters"

  • hahahah , I like the Tekken music xD

  • Tekken's music!! XD

  • nice try but size does matter...

  • I agree. besides that, he's going about it the wrong way. the legs should be his target.

  • noone of these two people does Wing Chun!

  • What the hell was that? I never like to say anything bad about other martial artists, but I for one see very little Wing Chun in this fight!

  • with this size diference, its impossible.

  • I see very little wing chun. this tall guy has a shitty root to the ground, hell they TSD guy has a better root. and wing chun guy, get in close! that is what our art is designed for. you must wait for him to come to you. and have no problem taking his center. what the hell is wrong with you?!

  • wtf

    a grown man Vs a kid>?????

theres no wing chun in this

  • You always face the wingchun guy with your right foot leading. But then you always throw front foot roundhouse kicks which if they aren't going to hit his head, are more likely to hit his back. So try changing the leading foot .

  • at 1:26 for the one in the white top u should have back fisted then thrown the side kick when ur opponent was charging in lean and jump back with a side kick (yup chaki) that would be the defensive jump side kick works for me alot

  • I see what your saying. That wing chun guy has such bad foot movement that he gave him that. Leaning in to punch seems weird to me.(for wing chun anyway.) If the guy gave him the back fist there it would've been nasty.

  • Good video.

  • i cant say much about the TSD, but ive learned wingchun before and i did NOT see any wingchun AT ALL in this vid. Also i don't know what a guy that big is doing learning WC, it wouldnt be as effective for him as if he learned a different style. no offense, but i think he's having some trouble grasping the concepts of wingchun.

  • so you have a chimp fighting a gorilla...I studied both Wing Chung and TangSooDo.... this is niether...the TSD guy has a black belt...we use Midnight Blue and a red Belt uniform...the Big guy is not using any WingChung Stances and very few multi hand combination ... and is very slow...

  • It's clear that the video shows the belt as being black when I can confirm that is midnight blue. I am a Cho Dan in Tang Soo Do, and the school I trained in was Yi's Karate Institute. I'm sure you're aware of Kwan Chang Nim Ki Yun Yi?

Anyway, I am a Cho Dan Bo, or Midnight blue, but the video shows it as black because of the quality of the video and the lighting.

  • @RakaiThwei but we dont see no stripes or ur name on the belt

  • @lc77k I'm a 2nd dan in TSD and I have a white suit with black trim and a black belt so I don't know what you're talking about with the red suit but we do have midnight blue belts so I guess you're half right :)

  • @lc77k why are you being a jerk tho

  • @lc77k wing chung is called wing chun (pronounced tsun), so u just lost all cred and now sound like every other youtube blackbelt

  • lol tekken music

  • Just a little constructive criticism...instead of throwing one technique and falling back, utilize more combinations of 3-5 techniques, and instead of backing away, side-step to the opponent's open areas. If you back off all the time, your opponent only has to wait for you to approach and react to what your attack will be. Train hard! Tang Soo!

  • Thanks for the constuctive criticism! I'll be sure to remember this when I spar my friend the next time.

  • its called fear!

  • I do not recognize any of the classical hallmarks of Wing Chun in his structure and movement: stance (he leads with his side), follow-step (he just walks), square shoulders (left arm has greater reach than the right), chain-punches (zero), elbow blocks - Bong sau (not used), no follow up attacks when he find an opening etc.

If this guy practices Wing Chung, he either abandoned it completely for this exchange or has learned a version of it that is completely unrecognizable as Wing Chun to me.

  • @BigDickandLittleJon There are several different styles of Wing Chun, because they are taught down different lines of instruction. Ip Man did not teach his full system to any one person, so everyone had to fill in the gaps with their own stuff. The Wing Chun you are talking about seems to be Hawkins.

  • i also do tang soo do i can tell you do to by your kicks

  • Wing chun, yeah right, bollocks. All this guy in black is, is a boxer who is just kicking and playing around.

  • its also based on speed and short punches u fkn idiot. all i see from him is defence so STFU

  • ummmmm thats not wing chun lol

  • you sir - are retarded =o

thats wing chun the one wearing black. watch his posture and his fighting style, wing chun is based on defending while attacking

  • Hey a midget against a giant. But it's a nice vid :)

  • Deleting my comments won't make you better, kiddo.

  • First off, this was just a friendly sparring session, okay?

Second, I'm a cho-dan bo, a midnight blue belt, the last belt before achieving first degree black belt. I know in the video it looks like black but it's not, it's midnight blue.

Third, I don't have alot of fighting experience, the purpose of these videos is for me to watch and see what needs to be worked on.

  • rakai here lemme trell you something that dude is waiting for you to hit him so he can block then attack really fast right abck. your best way is well this is in my opinion, is to try to get very close to him or to get far away, wing chun has something to do with distance so there was a disadvantage for you. but good skills man you still anticipated some moves he used nice one!

  • Was that your drunk uncle at last years family Christmas Eve dinner get together talking up his MA prowess and the nephew calling him out into the front yard to prove it? Just kiddin, good stuff man.

  • try not to do all the flashy kicks because its very easy to loose balance or for someone to knock you off center. Remember think about the center thats where all the power lies. Oh and the roundhouse kick and punchs are way to predictable. Remember to always flow with your opponent. Follow there lead then intercept there attack before they strike you.

  • this is very correct =3

  • i dont see wing chun here..

  • the guy in the black is wing chun.

  • i studied wing tsun for several years, and i can say that there's almost no wing chun in his tehnique

  • A suggestion would be to cut more angles. When Lenny (from Of Mice and Men) comes in to swing those dinner plate hands of his, instead of backing up, or running, slip and cut and angle to deliver counter strikes, then bounce out. Even though he probably craps bigger than you, your speed is a huge advantage. Take it from me, training with the little guys is a pain (6'2, 250lbs), unless they go straight back, then I catch them, and eat them with jam.

  • i suggest moving around a little more. i know how it is to fight larger fighters due to the fact that i am 13 and 5;3 and i am a first brown always fighting black belts. you did very well though great job :)

  • Is this William Cheung Wing Chun?

  • Hi!

    Watch at 1:28.

Your leg stays lean and in the way.

In a real stituation a big man, like Your partner, could easily break it [your knee] just by "stomping" on it.

You usually try to evade attacks by moving backward. Against big opponents it is better to evade to the sides. [bigger men move easier ahead then to sides].

Your stance is to "long". Your frontal leg can easily attacked by a mawashi geri gedan.

Otherwise it is nice to see Your moves.

  • Size difference much?

  • thanks for posting the video, pretty cool

I'm wondering why it was on the front lawn? anyway

just a tip/thought is that if the opponent is bigger (atleast by that significant a difference)

dont try coming straight in, use your speed and make angles, or let him come bouldering in and take an angle.

    thanks for sharing

  • TSD and Wing Chun have a glorious history together... always brothers in arms, forever!

    Tang Soo!

  • that is a big man.....

  • @AyzhunPersuasion and a little man...

  • although true a better comparison would be an ant to a praying mantis because the ant (or child) at least has a chance against a mantis (adult)
