the point of a solo, is to express the high vocabulary you have in music, he's vocabulary is high up there, and in this solo it might not seem like much, but if you would see the ending to this, you would see an incredible outcome. i've seen him do this before, he untunes everything and tunes back while playing the so called "noise".

It's hard to see the full picture of what victor is doing there. 1st this is only part of the whole picture. But let me explain. It's an amazing trick cleverly disguising by a crazy act, wrapped up inside a very good lesson. Victor teaches through his playing.

About 15 seconds after this video ended the bass in back in perfect tune, and he returns to the original melody, no electric tuners on stage. No one ever seen it coming. By the end of this video the d and g strings were already back in tune:) The lesson he gave was 2 thru 10. Notes are 1, now take 1 away and use 2 thru 10 to play. It greatly expands creativity.

it's too bad you didn't get the rest of it when he busts back into the original melody which is the point of the whole detuning. he gets it back in tune without anyone noticing and just starts playing it again.

Actually, Vic said himself that the point of detuning was boredom. He wanted to spice up a solo and thought 'hey I'll detune all my strings!' Once he was done, he realised he had the rest of a gig to play and tuned his bass up without making it obvious.
