The video is odd but it does fit, at least as much as any music video does, since it's about being something you're not. I like it well enough, it's different and much more interesting than most of their other videos. I think Kristen Schaal jokingly said in an interview that when they initially asked her if she wanted to be in a music video, that she'd only do it if she got to be President. So they went with that.

Strangely enough, although this video totally clashes with the song, the idea behind them is the same. It's about the differences between how we are expected to act versus how we really are. We are different people when the proverbial spotlight is on us. My favorite line is "We should swim in a fountain; I would not want to disappoint anyone." It really captures the monotony of love in contrast to the romantic ideals we tend to place on it.
