I do not think this is the best way to play this scene. The whole point is that it should be played straight - admittedly slightly heightened as a period film - but straight nonetheless. e.g. Sandwiches should be thick but not stupid. e.g. "No thank you" overplayed like this gets no laugh at all. If the rest of the production was like this I'm really glad I didn't see it. LESSON: play the line not the laugh.
I went to see this twice. Mostly because of John Behlman. He was absolutely wonderful. He had the charm, civility and that particular english-ness that I found was absent from all the other Richard Hannays.
