Warning to potential EZFlash IV buyers: mine is exhibiting the same problematic behavior as the Supercard discussed in the vid, and I have yet to successfully work around it to back up any of my saves via my original model (fat) GBA.
@PublicBob09 I was never able to get this to work on my original GBA either. Only the DS Phat allowed me to use the "push right side in first and go really slowly" trick. People have tried covering up everything except the power pins in the cartridge and it still resets the console.
@PublicBob09 If anyone's interested, I'm going with an EZ Flash IV (make sure it's not Lite if you want it for GBA), but I think there's also a Supercard of some kind available as well. Feel free to ask me for more details.
@vegetasayinprince10 There is an option to do that, yes. For EEPROM saves you might need to reverse the order of every 8 bytes but I'm not entirely sure.
hey, quick question. i'm using the cart_save.gba on the m3ds real. i placed it in the root and load the program. but after i take out the gba game and put the cart in again, it always freezes up. any clue to as what it is i'm doing wrong? i dont think dldi patching is the prob too...
I assume you mean the M3 Real GBA expansion pack, which unfortunately has no filesystem whatsoever. Since cart_save cannot save to SRAM, there's no way to use your equipment with this program. Look into Rudolph's GBA Backup Tool instead, which you should run directly from the slot-1 M3 Real.
Thanks a bunch, I didn't realize that you had to DLDI patch the cart_save file, chishm's site isn't really clear about that. But now it works great, thanks!
Well, I got Sonic Advance to work as you can see in my video. I've also used it with Golden Sun The Lost Age, and possibly Metroid Fusion, can't really remember on the last one.
I have those last two games, I'll try it out on those. M3's a little... strange, so that in itself could be a big contributor. Otherwise, since I'm planning on getting a slot-one cart, you said those other two programs, EEPINATOR and Rudolph's GBA Backup Tool, can perform the exact came function?
Unfortunately no, you can't access GBC cartridges from within GBA mode due to the voltage differences. Try inserting a GBC cart while the power is on and you'll see that the system reboots due to a physical switch on the inside of the cartridge slot. Even if you cut out the plastic on the cartridge so this switch isn't triggered, the program won't know what to do with the cartridge.
Heh, yeah, I figured that out after my Gameboy froze a few times when trying to read the save. Also, are there any games that you know of that are incompatible with cart_save? I'm using an M3, and none of the saves I've written to the cart are recognized when I try to play them on ROMs I have on my PC; it's like it didn't even read the save to begin with, it just prompts me to start a new game. Can I ask, what titles have to used cart_save successfully with?

About time I found a video guide like this. Thank you so much! Would you care to recommend a GBA flash cart specifically for this?

Hey can you do the opposite of this. Like can you get a game save from the pc and put it on the GBA

Does this work for game boy original games?

No, there's no way to access a GB/GBC cartridge from within GBA or DS mode. You'd need a dedicated GBC copier hardware thingy for that.

how to play gba games on ds?i go on gba mode then gba title screen appars than nothing
deaddoor 2 years ago
You *must* have a slot-2 device to run GBA games. You cannot do it with just a slot-1 device.
DanTheManMS 2 years ago
how do you mean slot 2?if you mean slot 2 on ds lite i havte that.but i mean on ttds
deaddoor 2 years ago
You cannot do it with just the TTDS. You have to have a device that fits into slot-2 that can run games. Look into the EZ-Flash 3in1 as an example.

Pretty much, though I've heard that GBA Backup Tool has issues with some EEPROM games. Don't know how accurate that is though.
You can also try using the alternate M3 DLDI file when patching, which may or may not help.

Were I to use this on an SP rather than a DS, would this program be able to read Gameboy Color saves?
