Texas Troopers were waiting for the truck to come in their direction on I-20 and already had the freeway shut down with many Troopers well ahead of the trucks arrival. There is no way TXDPS would put a trannie in a situation such as this either steering the car from the passenger seat or firing the weapon from the drivers seat. There was also a Texas DPS helicopter with one of their well trained snipers that was available as well, but they were able to use the experienced Troopers in a CVPI to stop the truck were Dallas SWAT could not. It was either going to be a 50-cal sniper rifle from a Helicopter or the car on the ground.

@2brokenbones i meant a lot of texas dps and the all are standard issued they did have 9mm ,40mm ,and 357 ,but it was getting too expensive for all the ammunition. So they went back to the 357.

They shot out the radiator after the owner of the truck called the cops and told them that it was the only way to stop it - as you can see, shooting out the tires doesn't do much except slow it down.
Shooting out the air tanks is extremely dangerous - those things have 100+ PSI in them, and are fairly large. If you hit one just right, it could explosively decompress sending shrapnel everywhere, just way too much that could go wrong there.
This was on dallas SWAT, the guy that was in SWAt said 'who are these guys' when the Texas state troopers rode up, I lol'd....that just goes to show if you want something done Call the Texas DPS! Rangers and Troopers! Texas Fight!

For a while, I wasn't very interested in the Texas Highway Patrol, but then I took a trip with my family out west from our home in Keller (suburb of Fort Worth) to Marfa and El Paso. And out there, the state troopers are the main form of law enforcement due to large counties with small populations. And so I got interested in TxDPS again. Now, I think I'm going to get a degree in criminal justice, make state trooper, then maybe try Border Patrol, after all of which I'll apply for the Dallas FBI.

My father use to be a trooper after 26 years of service and he was in the weatherford where this took place and know both of those troopers.All troopers are very brave but the only wrong thing is on this is they do ride in pairs a good amount just not on special assingments

You used to be able to ride a quad down Main Street, helmetless, with a passenger, and the cops would just wave "hi" at you. Now I have to worry about just starting my dirt bike in the driveway! I lucked out and got an enduro. My little cousin (6 yrs old) was riding his little 50cc around the yard (1 acre), and the cops showed up.

He said people complain all the time (what people?). The best part? I asked him why he was there doing the same exact thing I was (he was on an enduro Kawasaki), he said "well we're here". Wish I had my helmet cam then.
Also there is pretty much nowhere to ride anymore by the hesperia airport.

@barmtrail We are prohibited by state law to shoot at moving vehicles in pursuits. New York just passed similar legislation, except they extended it so that shooting any vehicle is prohibited, even if the driver of the vehicle is attempting to run you over and kill you. The theory behind it is that ricochets can kill bystanders, but in cases like this, where it's out in the middle of nowhere with no cars around, I can't really see the danger.
@dieselsmoke2010 If you think about it, shooting a car that's headed for you will do practically nothing to hinder its movement. You can kill the driver and shoot out the tires, but if you can actually hit either, at that distance the car is going to hit you anyways. The idea is really to save your own life instead of taking theirs - jump out of the way instead of wasting time trying to line up a shot.

Say if the offender was risking the lives of others, officers should be allowed to take a shot. Im not saying shoot everyone running from the police, but for instance if they were headed to a into a crowd or something, what else can you do?

The driver was a woman, being held hostage at gun point, this was already a 3 hour chase and there was no treat to any civilians as the highway was closed. If you noticed the drive wheels were already on the rims and was not out of control driving just fine on just aluminum wheels.

My father use to be a trooper after 26 years of service and he was in the weatherford where this took place and know both of those troopers.All troopers are very brave but the only wrong thing is on this is they do ride in pairs a good amount just not on special assingments

Let's not forget it is a STATE trooper. Anyone who lives in TX knows these aren't just run of the mill dps/dmv cops. State troopers are far less forgiving than county police, because they deal with interstate criminals all day. They WILL fuck you up if you don't submit.

This Chase was on some TV show about Dallas SWAT. Dallas PD and SWAT were chasing the truck for a couple hours but they weren't allowed to shoot because there was a hijacker hidden in the sleeping compartment holding the driver hostage. Then the troopers just came out of nowhere, drove around all the Dallas units and started firing at the tires and engine. Once the truck stopped the troopers just left and SWAT had to negotiate the hostage release.

That truck was hijacked. The woman driving was just heading out after leaving home when the guy jumped in, put a gun to her head and told her to drive. He was on the phone with the police the whole time blabbing about all the crap that "da man" had done to him blah blah. No one was hurt BTW

I wish we had that state government here in southern california. They will let driver's go on for hours and let innocent bystanders get almost killed at every intersection. @barmtrail I live in Hesperia right now, and have all my life. This city has changed so much it's ridiculous. The main problem here is people moving from the city. You used to be able to ride a quad down Main Street, helmetless, with a passenger, and the cops would just wave "hi" at you. Now I have to worry about just starting my dirt bike in the driveway! I lucked out and got an enduro. My little cousin (6 yrs old) was riding his little 50cc around the yard (1 acre), and the cops showed up.

I had an XT 500 and rode wheelies on every road in hesperia and never was looked at twice. I would ride near the hesperia airport and never had one cop talk to me. And i had a white bros. pipe on a 500 single!!
California is a joke, but atleast i got to live here when the beaches were clean and the milk and helms trucks!!

@barmtrail Yeah, he was on private property too. I also used to ride in Honda valley, but got a $100 ticket one day. I was on my enduro, fully street legal, in the middle if NOWHERE. He said people complain all the time (what people?). The best part? I asked him why he was there doing the same exact thing I was (he was on an enduro Kawasaki), he said "well we're here". Wish I had my helmet cam then.
Also there is pretty much nowhere to ride anymore by the hesperia airport.

@barmtrail We are prohibited by state law to shoot at moving vehicles in pursuits. New York just passed similar legislation, except they extended it so that shooting any vehicle is prohibited, even if the driver of the vehicle is attempting to run you over and kill you. The theory behind it is that ricochets can kill bystanders, but in cases like this, where it's out in the middle of nowhere with no cars around, I can't really see the danger.

@dieselsmoke2010 If you think about it, shooting a car that's headed for you will do practically nothing to hinder its movement. You can kill the driver and shoot out the tires, but if you can actually hit either, at that distance the car is going to hit you anyways. The idea is really to save your own life instead of taking theirs - jump out of the way instead of wasting time trying to line up a shot.

Say if the offender was risking the lives of others, officers should be allowed to take a shot. Im not saying shoot everyone running from the police, but for instance if they were headed to a into a crowd or something, what else can you do?
