There's a telescoping rod attached to the top of the flag pole which holds the flag out for correct display. The astronauts could not get the rod to telescope all the way out, which is why the flag appears to be waving. It's wrinkled from being folded in vacuum storage in flight.

Second, it makes perfect sense that a flag should be taken - we were in the cold war, you see.

3)To reply to what I think you're saying, go to the first vid that comes up when you search "Moon Landing." From 1:00 until 1:44, you can see that the flag is stubbornly *not* waving. There is a slight movement apparent, but this is caused by the poor (today's standards) equipment and changing light conditions. Look closely, it's really just image blur.

Too many problems with the Moon Landing in theory ... Where did they hold the fuel needed to get the lander off the moon? In 1/3 the gravity of earth, why does the dust, dirt, and debris settle so fast? 1969 moon suit ... Helium is used for high vacuum leak testing to find cracks smaller than a hair's thickness in a vacuum vessel ... did they have the technology to protect the astronuats from high vacuum and radiation in 1969?

1) Ascent engine tanks.

2) Because there's no atmosphere to slow their settling.

3) Yes. High vacuum? You mean VACUUM!? It was done long, long before 1969. As for the radiation, limiting the exposure is all you really need. That's why NASA only allows astronauts to fly a finite number of hours.

The US had to think up an intimidation tactic so that the soviets would fear US rockets (and bolster US morale). if anyone ever had landed on the moon and gotten back in the 60´s then rockets at that time would have appeared much more effective than they were. Even a modern nuke still has to be delivered by or at least guided by a plane.
