  • I've been feeding my cat simba raw meat every day since I got him, he won't touch the caned packet crap, he has not once gotten sick and the vet says he's doing so much better than normal cats due to his diet. Raw meat is the way to go and when you put cost together it's about the same maybe little less.

  • I am all for Raw feeding, wanting to start this slowly, though am concerned about Campylobacter. This is found on most meats, and can be quite dangerous. So what do you do about it? I know about cats having a short digestive tract, etc. though I know of a cat that got this.

  • I like your meat cleaver. It cuts meat very fast and efficiently. Where did you buy it?

  • Love this idea, my only concern is parasites, is there a danger in this with raw meats, especially chicken?

  • Jeez, they're just cats.. Why is everybody freaking out about people giving their cats dry and or canned food? I've been feeding my cats actual cat food forever. All of them are very healthy and most that I've had have lived up to or past expected life..

  • they are excited! look at them! =D

  • Those cats are in shape, wow very lean. Good job with the kitties and people please don't ask your vet. Your vet makes money selling you crap Science Diet, vets get poor nutrition educating in schools because science diet or purina sponsors this program of their studies. Do you see a lion eating grass or fruits? come on people stop being so naive and read a little. This man has beautiful spoiled cats the way they are supossed to eat.

  • your cats look very healthy! Well done!

  • how about cutting it ON A KITCHEN COUNTER?

  • vets said raw meat causes toxoplasma on cats. just watch out :)

  • @beluank Cats are hardy. If you're worried about yourself, just wash you hands like you should after handling raw meat and scooping cat littler.

  • There's a man with a plan. I enjoyed this video. Nice looking, healthy cats and it's good to see people that love their cats enough to feed them this way. I plan to get mine eating this same way. WTG!

  • found out my cat likes raw turkey thigh after i left some out to cook in my own stir fry, came back and the cat had eaten the lot!

  • be careful with the minerals the kitties can get kidney problems

  • Thats nice, they seem really happy. My cats kind of just look at it when I put it down, they will lick it and then walk away and leave it to rot. Should I mix the chopped chicken with canned food first or something? Can you help me?

  • I am a activly approve of raw feeding, just...hot water to defrost meat is not good for the meat, it slightly cooks the outside of the flesh and kills some of the taurine in the flesh. Use cold water and have it run over the food instead.

Also consider just giving the cat the whole piece of meat instead of chopping it up. Being able chew, gnaw and bite at their food is a more stimulating experience for it. Just some friendly tips.

  • The water is only about 100 degrees at most, it's not boiling or anything & won't cause any chemical alteration of the meat.

I tried giving the cats unchopped chicken but they are less interested in it (trust me I'd love to save the time, energy & mess of chopping). Thank you for your feedback though!

  • My siamese age 15 had a failing liver and was wasting away, dehydrated and lost 60% of his body weight. I was about to buy a shovel for when he died. Vet gave me canned rx food which i was feeding him every day with a plastic syringe to no avail. Several weeks ago I was prepping chicken for a stir fry, and my sick cat was at my feet crying for the raw chicken. He ate a bunch, first time in a month eating on his own. He is now gaining weight, eating on his own, nothing but raw beef and chicken.

  • addendum: I will never ever feed my cats canned food again. Three weeks into his new raw diet and I also noticed that his gums and teeth which had been red and yucky, were as clean as a kittens, from having to really gnaw the raw meat. Works like a toothbrush. His personaility came back. Raw food literally saved my cats life. I cut up small bunches of chicken and stew beef and freeze it in sandwich bags in the fridge. Then just thaw under warn water for a few minutes. He eats it all up!

  • great story!

  • Thanks for this video. I have two sphynx cats that I would like to feed raw, but do not want to use a meat grinder. Do I have to buy supplements like taurine, or would it work without? And would it be Ok to use one type of meat, say chicken thighs, or should I use beef and fish as well?

  • I'm not a feline nutrition expert but it worked very well for my cats with mostly just chicken (once in awhile I'd spoil them with fish of some sort).

  • @julielenore The problem with grinding meat is that it can oxidise the taurine, so better to lower the surface area. However, it's easier for your cat to eat grinded food and probably safer too (no grissle or bones). Plus you can add taurine (check amounts) or use beef heart (high in taurine). Don't forget to supply calcium as well, cos they will usually get this from animal bones in the wild- but don't use bones unless you are feeding mashed up sardines or pilchards (no chicken). I use milk too

  • @lioxoda woops sorry you said you don't want to use a grinder, duh lol. Also, when I said about bones, I meant use small whole fish, carefully mashed with a fork so the bones won't stick. Or cottage cheese will do lol although a lot of people seem to think cats are lactose intollerant, but I've never noticed this.

  • I just placed an order with Feline's Pride, we are going to try a raw diet, Alabama is 13 and had IBD and rodent ulcer and I'm sick of all the processed garbage food. Anyone feeding this?

  • I have been using BARF diet for my two cats for a a couple months. I use whole breast with ribs attached and it costs about 99-cents a pound, which is actually more affordable than fancy feast crap. My cats are much healthier now. I use the SamBaere grinder and it works great.

  • is it true that cats cannot eat any bones?

  • as long as they are raw it's fine

  • Cats normally eat the whole mouse/bird, including all organs etc, so be careful feeding just the meat/muscle, I'm not sure they get all the nutrients they need from that

  • Great video! Your kitties seem very happy with their diet! I hope to switch mine to raw soon.

  • Great!

You just saved me a bunch of money by not having to buy a strong meat grinder. This looks faster and cleaner, too.

Make sure you sterilize the chopper board and cleaver with bleach.

  • White vinegar and hot water is just fine as a disinfectant.

  • IF you do the vinegar followed by 3% hydrogen peroxide you've just killed 99.99999% of bacteria on whatever surface you choose to clean. The cleaning chemical industry is the biggest scam going as few products come close to being this effective!

  • I have a friend who is addicted to peroxide, and carries it with him everywhere. haha Kind of figures though, his mom is an RN and also a little germ-a-phobic. ;-)

  • heh, Chinese store = Chinese grocery store. Like in NY or SF's Chinatown. They always sell a lot of cleavers like those.

Make sure to keep the knife sharpened also, I've let mine go dull over the years.

  • What the hell's a Chinese store, Narz?

  • "you can get it at wal-mart or a chinese store" lol

  • Yeah I agree savannahcatz. TheNarz if your cats are eating this without a problem then you could be feeding them larger pieces.

  • Sweet kitties, thank you for the video:-)

  • Feeding it whole will provide more oral benefit. You can over supplement with calcium. If they are eating their bones (roughly 10% of the over all diet)they will get enough.

Check out the carnivore feed supplier yahoo group to find deals on food. I am currently feeding 25 cats and 4 large dogs, natural raw diets.

Keep up the good cat *parenting!* Your kitties look very beautiful and happy. =)

  • Excellent I just started my 3 babies on Raw a week ago. I love this video. Simple and to the point. Great info!

  • Ultimately, it is best for all pets to eat hard, crunchy food. A kitten or puppy may need a combination of canned food and dry food for a month or more as their digestive system matures but do not mix milk in with your pet's food, and do not soak any dry food in water. These are common mistakes that can really upset your pet's digestion. Again, ultimately, it is best for all pets to eat hard, crunchy food.

  • Actually, dry crunchy food is horrible for pets that are obligate carnivores (such as cats and ferrets). The teeth of a cat are meant for tearing and cutting, not grinding, so when cats eat kibble, they end up swallowing large chunks. The kibble also does not their teeth any good because only the tips get cleaned. Raw meat goes all the way to the gum line. I could go on and on with the cons of kibble, but this text box only allows me so many characters.

  • @ClarkeReptile Dead on man. My vet even told me that the most ideal diet for a cat is live mice (perferably caged mice though to prevent disease transmission).

  • This is statement is completely wrong.

  • @haizahaiza It's best to do your research before making a comment, you know? Dry cat food contains grains and vegetables... Stuff that your cat would never eat if it was a stray, even in the country. Cats are carnivores, not omnivores like humans. The best food, if you have to go dry, is one that does not have any grain or vegetable in the first four listed ingredients. Otherwise, a raw diet is ultimately the best route. Especially for dental concerns.

  • thanks! :)

  • I've been thinking about starting a raw food diet for my cat, since the pet food recall thing. Great video :-)
