  • @originaldriver lemme make this simple for you lol, i did make a mistake, its a 3.8l.... either way... its still almost half the displacement, and down 2 cylinders and it makes more power.... its twin turbos also are very responsive and offer little lagg or none at all

  • Honestly? I think the Boss 302 Laguna Seca would've been a much better choice over the GT500 for this kind of track. But of course they didnt do that because the Laguna Seca isnt in the 500 horsepower range.

  • @originaldriver The GT500 WAS squashed. You actually watched the video right? But anyways, the BOSS 302 LS is a much better car than the Shelby by a long shot, it has less horsepower but because of an amazing suspension set up it has a faster 1/4 mile time. So for a track like this, I think it would come closer to the Vette and Godzilla.

  • If he had used the Stability Control on the Corvette, he would've done a much faster lap. I mean, it is not considered cheating if the GT-R also uses these things.

  • What I like about these 3 cars is the aftermarket world has so many cool performance parts to increase power to your liking and numerous shops willing to do the work. Can't say that with a lot of the 300k and higher supercars. You're kinda stuck with what you get (albeit pretty quick)

  • i respect all these cars but is it me or does the ford seem to have the best interior? they all look nice but they cheap, gray painted rings around the nissans gauges are hideous and the corvette, although its nice as well and posts amazing numbers (as does the gtr) i still would like to see which ones interior stands the test of time. id say the gt500 lasts the longest.

  • I don't believe there is an obvious choice. I'm extremely torn between all 3. The gt500 would be the best street car if you plan on driving a lot, and the easiest on your wallet, but let me remind you the gt500 was not aimed at the z06 or GTR. The z06 and GTR are similar in a performance aspect, and are made to compete for each other and prove that by almost identical numbers. It purely comes down to personal preference with these two.

  • @randumbuller To me a street car should be fun to drive, it's more important than the raw numbers in a race track. As Randy Pobst said the GTR is boring to race, in every day life it will be even more boring to drive due to the fact that it's so easy to drive, even Paris Hilton can drive that! The other two are designed to reward to real driver that likes to do things manual.

  • @LeontariF1 You see.. that's so debatable. Because I went to a GTR workshop at my local racetrack (MSR Houston) and the GTR isn't boring AT ALL. Various racers have said this, "If people think that this vehicle is actually boring to drive, they've never driven it." With Randy Pobst, being a professional and constant manual driver, then yes, I can see how the GTR can be boring to him. But to a majority of these YouTube commenters, no. Plus Randy's words are biased against non-domestic vehicles.

  • I would take the Vette. It's a true drivers car. You don't have a computer controlling every aspect of your drive. Shifting, traction, cornering etc.. A kid could drive the GTR with all of the assists. I do think it's a true marvel in engineering, but I prefer something with more of a "raw" feeling on the road.

  • @lagoskid There isn't much to compare here. Of course the AWD GT-R will beat the muscle cars on a road course, but in America there's plenty of room to run, and as can be seen by the quarter-mile times, the corvette would've outrun the GT-R in the long haul. Also, the GT-R is running at such high rpm that the engine probably won't last nearly as long. For the price of the Nissan you might as well get the Stang and make a few modifications. I love the GT-R though.

  • @soonerfannathan Well, yes. The GTR being an AWD and the Vette being an RWD vehcile, the GTR loses power in the long haul; therefore, the Vette will lead. When you say that the engine probably won't last as long.. are you comparing the high rpm engine to that of the Chevy's? In that case, the Nissan engine is more superior. Also in this test, the guy didn't push the GTR as hard, he was shifting from 2-3 at ~5.5-6k rpm, I do more in my modded FX35.

  • @soonerfannathan Also, about the price. You see that's the thing.. this test wasn't about the price, the requirements were to be under 100k, though. But yes you COULD get a Stang and make a few modifications. But couldn't you get a Honda, as well, and make a few modifications?

  • @lagoskid Its kinda amazing to me that the same two cars in another comparison by "Car and Driver" ended up with the Z06 running faster lap times after a mere factory "tire change" to the Michelin pilot sport cup tires despite the fact that Nissan juiced up the HP and re-tuned the traction control.

I also don't know where you're getting your info from because on Car & Driver, it shows the 2008 and 2012 tests and the GTR topped the Z06 TWICE in final results. Also, the Z06 isn't even in the Top 20 for fastest lap times on Top Gear, whilst the GTR is in the top 10.

There's a whole shit load of videos with all of the cars that "Motor Trend" tested to the hot lap at Laguna Seca for 2011. And in their among those little thumbnails, you will find the GTR and the 2012 Z06 there waiting for your viewing pleasure.

  • @originaldriver So I DID see the videos via YouTube, NOT Motor Trend's website. I wasn't in denial at all. Google "2012 vette vs 2012 gtr" and see what you find. I find it HARD to believe that the Vette beat a Porsche GTR 3's time. Even in this video, the driver was biased. He clearly glorified both American cars and barely reached 5.5krpm on the GTR (in this video.)

    Car & Driver/Top Gear/Road&Track still show the GTR above the Vette, 3 over 1 source. You can stand by MT.

    The only difference is he didn't use the traction control in this vid. (with which he would have been faster in this vid too, Ill add.) Ha ha! After all of the pumped up tuning for the 2012 GTR, the only change made to the 2012 Z06 centennial edition was magnetic suspension, carbon brakes and "tires". Ha ha ha ha ha!

Listen to how he compliments the other cars as opposed to the GTR. I'm not a fan boy and Motor Trend isn't as accredited as the other 3 sources I listed.

    By the end of the year, the Nissan GTR will still reside over the z06 over various test throughout various sources. HA HA HA. :]

  • @lagoskid Dont get me wrong... The GTR is a fast car. In some ways, maybe even a better of a car than the Z06. But after all of the "high tech" tuning and the power for the 2012 model that Nissan poured the GTR to compete with the ZR1, All GM did was to add a set of "tires" to the ZO6 to make it faster.

    Its almost like a athletic runner training hard to beat a rival only to be beaten by the rivals little brother because he was wearing a good pair running shoes to the track meet.

    Actually the Z06 in this vid is not different to the 2012 model apart from the tires! LOOOOOL!!!

    The T/C? Faster? HUH? no it wouldn't because the T/C is rubbish in the Z06! LOL!!!

    Also the T/C in the GTR was put into race or R mode to turn the T/C the VDC button needs to be turned OFF! And as Fifth Gear proved the GTR with it's VDC on is faster. So if that was off the GTR would have been faster LOOOOL!

  • @sw1000xg Nope... wrong. The Launch control and TC were re-tuned for both the ZR1 and the Z06 2012 model. So no mistakes made, bro.

    Not to say that the VDC being "on" wont make up an entire 2 secs (which it wont) , but the fact remains that it was whooped 2 1/2 buss lengths by a "push-rod" v8, RWD car that had little more than a tire change and the TC turned on. This aint about "what-ifs" son. Just hard fact.

    I don't know about you, but where we come from, we called that an "Ass whoopin".

  • @nyphon with 49k you buy an used mercedes s63 amg from 2002 or 2001 and you have a faster car, and you can use it every day, with 49k, you buy a used skyline r34 gtr and you have a faster car, with 49k you can get a lot of better cars, but if you want to compete with high performance cars for less money than 100k you have to buy the gtr.

  • @lagoskid not a fan boy just making a comment everyone says the gtr just has a v-6, but a twin turbo v-6 in my opinion; the right combination of (turbos+ properly built engine) out performs almost any v8. Look at what audi did with the b5 s4 (97-2000 model) properly tuned that car out performs modern day cars in its class. not taking anything away from the gtr tho its one hell of a car

  • @W33Dblazer the gtr has four seats , a better fuel economy and a luxury interior, you can use it every day, and you can race to, the corvette it's made to be fun, with a big v8 7.0 engine , a manual transmission and the rear wheel drive it's only for ocassional use.

    the gtr, sounds nice too, but it's a diferent kind of car and in my opinion it's better than the corvette z06.

  • @focarfa gtr is a better car, but it doesnt get better fuel economy then z06 (gets over 30mpg on highways), and nope gtr is not a good daily driver its just a good track car

  • @W33Dblazer Haha..The Gtr most definitely gets better fuel economy than the z06 for everyday driving, and the Gtr is an excellent daily driver, I don't know how you can say it isn't? It's comfortable, rides well and it is as easy to drive as a nissan micra.

  • @highflyer4 the 2012 nissan gtr acelerates faster than the aventador in the 0-100. and it's 0.8 seconds faster than the z06 in a drag race, it can easily keep up with a z06 in the track and with more weight.

    the z06 it's an awesome car, but the gtr it's a supercar.

    But that depends on your laws, obviously. It's not GM's fault that these cars more expensive in your country, it's most likely the taxes.

  • @wildbloodydragon Yes, that's true. The tax in my country in penalizing for the GM cars because of the high CO2 emissions and the huge displacement (compared with the nissan).

  • @joinbd I'm guessing it's the engine displacement that is taxed. Which is ironic because a Z06 is actually more economical (by that I mean better gas mileage) than a GT-R, a Ferrari 458, Ford GT, and every Lamborghini ever made, despite having 7.0 liter engine.

  • @12valvepower4 with the disadvantage of traction and paddle shifters which it doesn't have (but it's more pure that way) and it has a higher trap speed as well, most likely passing the GTR as speeds climb, an all of the GTR's electronic advantages do it no good any more..

  • @12valvepower4 yeah z06 tested by americans in america hhrrrmm with track/road tyres while gtr ran with regular street tyres. how do you explain topgear who ban track/street tyres tested the gtr which was quicker than your big daddy zr1 by 3 seconds and z06 by 5seconds? then the gtr was quicker than the zr1 at tsukubsa, and mt fuji by a relatively large margin. so dont yap on about the z06 being quicker than a gtr when the big daddy zr1 is heaps slower than the gtr when using the same tyres haha

  • the GT500 isnt even in the same realm of cars as the Z06 or GT-R the shelby is better compared to the camero ZL1

  • Though I've only driven Volkswagens since I could drive, I've been lusting after the GT-R recently.  It seems too good to be true. I may, however, have to settle for an R32 with my budget... or an old Audi 5000 Avant...
