This performance should have taken place at Carnegie hall! Everyone is a master at his craft here...Brother if at all possible can get the charts for this evenings performance.. I'd gladly pay you ..
of all the versions of St Thomas I have collected ;) this is by far the best. I played this on tenor pan along with Mr. Camilo's track at my wedding.. good times.
this is personally my favorite song for jazz i would have probably changed the drum beat a lil but these guys are amazing i would have a different beat but i would have never thought of this
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!.... Tocan Identico!... DIOS!... Felicidades!...
I usually tell bad Camilo copies in the first 15 seconds; YT has plenty of them and their quality is equally sparse. But, in the understanding that playing along a Camilo recording is humanly IMPOSSIBLE, yours is an outstanding performance. Congrats.
The piano really rocks especially in the beginning. I think what Rollins had actually on his mind when he composed this piece was the famous carribean instrument that we call MARIMBA!!! It's bright and easy!
Exactly, i know this guy and he is still a student of jazz and he has stated in a comment below (in Spanish)that he is first copying the solos in order to learn how chords and scales relate to one another so that he learns the language and hopefully be able to create his own solos some time ahead...as for the meantime great execution!!
yeah man. the trick to becoming a great musician is emulating the styles of other great musicians, and using them to develop and create your own style. in doing that you will also build up chops on your instrument. for example, i may not be able to do the buddy rich one handed drum roll traditional grip, but working on it and learning has sure helped me with some sick ghost note patterns!
He still is a student of jazz, he is learning the language, sometime ahead he will incorporate his own parts...he has stated it "...first copying in order to learn and then create something of its own."
The concert is a Michel Camilo Camilo tribute, but as he states below, he is copying his stuff in order to learn the language of jazz and then create his own parts...there is nothing wrong with that.

THE ANSWER for almost all the questions, haha...
DRUMMER: Raul Serrano. Mexico City, works for ITESM CEM. It’s sad, but he doesn’t work as a musician or music professor, he is at administrative area.
BASS: Ricardo Jimenez. He lives in Mexico City and works also for ITESM CEM. He is the Dean of Students Affairs, and also the bass professor.
PIANIST: don’t know :-(. I’m a pianist too, and played with Raul, but would like to take some lessons with this pianist. He is awesome.

That's the best way to do it. It's like learning any language. You have to mimick first and then you understand. I really enjoyed this.
