Other than a sitational video I dare you to provide any documents of this and compare the last 15 - 20 years. I think Global crisis is hog wash. we do need to be aware of our impact on our environment but dont need to go off the "left" cliff.
I agree that this is a massive issue which is certainly not given nearly enough attention. I'm an environmental anthropology student. I really want to find out more. Get involved. Do some fieldwork and research. Help get the word out. Any advice on who to contact How to get involved?
PS- Climatewitness, Pohnpei is actually North Pacific, not South since it lies above the equator. Just an FYI. Thanks for the video. More people world wide need to know about the plight of these smaller islands.
Hello there thanks so much for picking that up about being in the North and have changed the description. Amazing that vid has been on our site for ages and no one not event us noticed that.
I was a Peace Corps Volunteer on Ta Island in the outer island of Chuuk and we had some tides that had actually flooded the school grounds... Nobody had seen the tide that far before. And, like Ben said, the taro patches are getting too much salt in them and ruining crops. Taro is a major source of food in all of Micronesia. Another problem for the outer islands is erosion... I'm not sure if the main islands are experiencing the the same issue here. Global warming has everything to do with it.
i don't know wud da fuck is our gov't doing? all our congressmen are not doin n e fuckn thing about this.... Pohnpeian...! Stand up now! make a difference...
hey im micronesian too my name is kimberly c. and i'm from there i also live in pohnpei until i was 12 years when i came in america. i really miss my island.
FYI Pohnpei gets around 400 inches of rain a year... so the outwashed areas are areas that were not constructed well. some low areas are commonly filled with the rain due to poor construction. Global warming has nothing to do with this...
Skirrmat, are you currently in Pohnpei? Believe or not, Pohnpei is vulnerable and no exception to the global warming situation we're are facing today. 15-20 years, it wasn't like that. 15-20 years ago, we were getting that 400 inches of rain you mentioned, but the Islands never experienced this situation of high tides and tital waves that hit the outer islands of Kapinga and Nukuoro recently. The sad part is, the damages we cause to mother earth is irreversable.
I do believe they are irreversable. But I dont believe they are as bad as people would like to think. A small tsunami would be destructive to any island. all I am saying is that I wouldent go as far to say that the because the tide rises more than normal it is global warming. if it raises in Pohnpei than wouldent it raise on all other coast lines in the entire world? I do believe though there are issues Humans have caused the earth but I also think we have done a lot of good for it as well.
Great video. it's devastating how the people who get left behind by problems like global warming often go, for lack of a better word, unnonticed. Thank you for posting this video.
