I wasn't brave enough to try defretting my steel string - went for the nylon instead. Interesting sound on the high strings and thanks for the demonstration.
Don't fret (PUN!!!!!11) over the detractors - we could each use some practice in one way or another.
It shouldn't buzz that much up higher on the neck, you need to adjust your truss rod/action. Also, no roundwond strings, they eat up your fretboard! (unless your neck is coated with epoxy or is solid ebony)
I'm doing my own fretless conversion, along with other upgrades to said guitar.
What kind strings are you using here, and have you since changed them? I'm thinking of doing this to my old acoustic. I own a fretless bass, and use tapewounds, don't know if that applies here.
you can play fretless steel stringed instruments without a slide, but you have to play them with your fingernails and you a metal plate over the neck so that it won't damage the wood and will slide better. very difficult but much more effective and articulate than a slide.

well done mate.. i'm thinking of doing the same, perhaps with an old 12-string to get more of an oud feeling

This sound has potential. It sorta sounds like a sitar, great droning sound. It would be perfect for scoring movies.
