Has done only 4 musicals tho1996/2001: Les Mis, JCS, Notre Dame + showcase of Woolfsons Poe. tho still being asked to sing Gethsemane and Immortal. 2002 had a solo career as singer songwriter and from 2003-10 front man of great band The Storys. Now gone solo again and touring with Jon Lord of Deep Purple as his vocalist. Vids of all on here. Regarded by many including me as 1 of the greatest voices out there so yes I agree, why is he not hugely famous?

@metalbass406 Check out The Storys website, you'll get some there. Solo Album, band albums and another project ChimpanA. Also look for Eric Woolfsons Poe album from which this song is from. He starred in a full musical version of this which was recorded live in Abbey Road studios. The whole performance is available on DVD. Also IOearth's album which he guested on and sings two fantastic songs.I believe new Solo website is coming soon. Sure all info you need will be there. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately not. A few vids of various performances of Geth but When RUG decided to bring out a DVD of JCS they used Glen Carter.... I bought it but have watched it once. Not a patch on Steve's performance in the West End. Why they didn't have Steve do it only they can say. Only have to see the Ahoy vid of his Gethsemane and how many hits it's had and the comments to see how big a mistake it was. I did see the rest of his performance of JC live many times. And OMG Awesome, All of it.

Do you know, i can't imagine anyone else doing this song. It is quite challenging, the depth and range of Steve's voice makes this unknown territory for others to attempt. Love Perry too. Both Steve's have more than their name in common. Both incrdible vocalists.Not sure how Perry would connect with this particular song as Steve had a close relational with Woolfson,& they created beautiful music together. Eric totally understood Steve's voice & capabilities, if you watch the YT vid of Eric talking about their work together,it's clear Steve was his choice to convey POE's inner being through the beautiful music that became POE the musical. Perry is great too.

Having been a fan of his for many years I do know that he can sing any type of song from musicals to beautiful ballads to rock and wherever he performs makes a huge impression on people who have not heard of him before. Just needs to be 'Out there" more. Once heard live, you're hooked". Has recently had some success with "The Storys" touring with Elton John and other big names as well as their own headline gigs and 2 critically acclaimed albums.

A great venue to show case this song, the studio version on the album is different again, more pure, simply breathtaking. Does anyone know why this guy has not broke into the US market yet ? My God, this guy is the next Tom Jones, Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry combined ! Such a shame we have to listen to crap like Justin Timberlake over on this side of the pond ! We (USA) produce some great female singers (Kristen Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Martina McBride) but since Steve Perry retired, we don't have any male singers that can hold a candle to Balsamo. It's in the show "Musicals in Ahoy" - which is a Dutch show of great musical songs preformed by great musical stars. A lot of Dutch preformers, but also some foreign ones.

I think it is held once each two years, but I'm not sure about that. (at least there were shows in 2002, 2004 and 2006) You can see it as a concert of musical songs!

We saw this performance on tv when it was telecast and were blown away. We just saw the song ' Gethsemane' performed on the Dutch Idols and told our friends that THE best performance of that song was done by STEVE BALSAMO. Unbelievable! I had the pleasure of knowing Steve in my Heavy Metal days back in Swansea when he was in a heavy metal band called After Dark. Always makes me laugh thinking I was jealous of his hair! Luckily my Heavy metal era was just a phase! He always had the time of day for a chat and a thoroughly nice guy. Just wish I still knew him now. I've always watched his career with admiration and pride that I once knew him.

I figured out why your voice is so outstanding Steve.

Every word, that you sing, can stand on it's own. You infuse the emotion of the entire song into each word that comes out of your mouth. Not an easy thing to do but you do it well.
