Not as bad as a"dying cat". You have to understand that at 17 (nearly 18) his voice is still changing, so it's natural that at times it doesn't sound so charming. Just like you, I liked him much more when he was child. We have to foresee that his voice will keep changing in the next few years till it settles to be a more likeable mature voice. Remember what a sweet, incredibly talented boy he was and think how great he can still be. Don't give up on him, just wait for his voice to be ripe.

@BetaArtemis Actually he doesn't use the same singing style. The straight forward pitch and tones changing thing he did as a kid. His style has the same strength he just has more vocal control to hit higher pitches and deeper tones. Although his song ego you does sound a bit auto-tuned. He's still just as talented my favorite of his songs is his Cover to Queen's Love of my Life, he did that song with grace.

I would argue that pop music has meaning, if you look for it. It's just (ironically) the trend nowadays to elevate classical music to a level of (perhaps somewhat deserved) profundity that somehow modern music cannot even hope to touch. I dispute this very much.
