  • My great great granddaddy worked at that mill in Aragon, Polk County, Ga. Great granddad worked at the mill in Porterdale, Ga. Granddad worked at the same mill. They were pickers, too, as am I. Nice tune...

  • What a hauntingly beautiful song!! Just heard it for the first time yesterday (mandolin cross-picking) ... with slightly different chords. But I like the minor(?) here ... it sounds more plaintive. Thanks for posting all the history ... so sad that progress doesn't care much for heritage or people.

  • It's much cheaper down in a South American town, where the miners work almost for nothing.

  • @bensmith3200 They to are getting screwed, when will we learn?

  • @mobilechief

I think working people are getting wise to the nature of capitalism these days. Not since the 1930s has there been this much struggle and class consciousness in this country (not to mention every other country). I, for one, think this is a beautiful thing:

"All the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone,

We have laid the wide foundations, built it skyward stone by stone,

It is ours, not to slave in, but to master and to own,

While the union makes us strong."

  • What a wonderful singer and songwriter.Thoroughly enjoyed this. Thanks for posting.

    Regards ,

    Kennet.
