  • "a ton of headroom". Headroom is wasted space. Isn't it?

  • @MrCoffeeandWine

Now when you're 6-7 ft. in height.

  • nissan leaf is ugly

  • Tesla wins hands down, zero competition

  • We only have two choices right now???....what the hell is this ignorant guy talking about??...what about the Tesla roadster and the Fisker Karma???...(both electric last time I checked!)....this annoying, incompetent dude needs to be fired from his job!!

  • @1aceves You should say what "WAS" this guy talking about since the video was uploaded 1½ years ago & it could be much older than that

  • Dear god, is it me or did this guys voice sound really annoying?

  • In the United States alone, there are oil reserves so large that at this moment, they have the capacity to provide America with over 300 years with cheap, abundant fuel and literally thousands of good, high paying jobs. That's not including future exploration. Obama only authorized for increased production on existing wells. He has not granted any permits for new off-shore deep water drilling and his EPA has stifled any new domestic drilling in the Alaska North Slope and the lower 48.

  • Obama's plan to drive (force) America toward a green economy, keeping gas prices high. Or did Obama appointed Energy Secretary Steven Chu lie or misspeak when he stated that it was their goal to drive gas prices to European levels within the next 15 years? Why is UAW president Bob King spending so much time at the white house?

  • The VOlt is a sharper looking car then the leaf.....the leaf looks like hell. But I would never buy a Volt or any electric car for that matter, at least not in the price range of 45k unless it was in the level as a decked out luxary car

  • The VOLT is now DEAD ,,, GM has halted production ... GM can never compete with Japanese makers, you have the Mitsubishi I-EV, the Nissan LEAF, the Honda FIT, the Toyota IQ and Subaru RD1 ... all EVs and cheaper to by then the VOLT ...

  • @TatsushigeJapan Hell the Volt can't even compete with other 40+MPG cars GM produces.

  • @TatsushigeJapan your soo wrong they halted production for 5 weeks to clear inventory

  • @barf245 - They're clearing inventory and suspending production and laying off 1,300 auto workers for the simple reason that the Volt is not selling. It's too expensive and the technology just isn't there yet. When they can build an EV that's affordable, will completely recharge in 15 minutes and go 500 miles between charges with heat and air conditioning running and lights on, then they might sell. The infrastructure to charge them isn't even near where it should be to mass produce EV's.

  • @NAGGERNUTZ electric only vehicles are getting better but i will wait a decade at least to buy one hopefully then the technology would improve enough that they would be a good buy.

  • @barf245 I agree. I'd like to have one too. They're quiet and they really scoot. Right now we need to concentrate on lowering fuel prices while we continue to develop the technology for EVs.

  • @TatsushigeJapan - Amen. And it'll always be that way until the US auto industry finds a way to get the unions out of the way. Until then, we'll continue to trail every other industrialized nation. They beat us to death in labor costs, plus the US has the second highest corporate tax rate in the world, second only to Japan. Japan is an island nation that deliberately keeps their tax rates high to discourage foreign investors from doing business on their soil and it works.

  • i never understood why they make electric cars look like shit. the volt actually is the first electric that looks good but all the otherwise suck

  • city slicker

  • what a terrible comparison. Instead of comparing how "ez" it was to get into the front seat, why not explain the different ranges of the electric motors? charging stations? prices?

  • your whiners .ive driven a volt. its a great car for america to make. beats the damned neon. neons always break down. they are 50 percent mitsubishi. same engine. 4g63.crap motor.

  • @12valvepower4 4g63 crap motor? Relative to what? Certainly not power handling or stock potential. I think you maybe huffing too much diesel fumes.

  • @12valvepower4 What a fuckin idiot you are. Comparing a old Neon to a new POS Volt? Put the crack pipe down, asshole. Your brain is fried!

  • @12valvepower4 Stay off this board you dumbass country hick. Where the hell did the Neon come from?? If you can't contribute an opinion about the Volt, get the hell out of here, boy!

  • its a hybrid. but its a hybird i like.. the engine has nothing to do with the wheels. only charges the battery. now big oil wants nothing to do with it.. they will go bankrupt.. they will do anythnig they can, republicans too.. to stop it. support america.. buy volt b4 buying prius. you will be happy. if i had one, i would certainly piss people off and put a gun rack in mine.

    fuck all

  • @12valvepower4 - Shut up you fucking idiot. The Volt (what an idiotic name) is still a fucking CHEVY, bottom line. Who in their right mind is going to pay $40k PLUS TT&L for this useless piece of junk with a 20 mile ranges. Bwahahahahahahahhaha!! Dumbass!

  • im a liberal fucking idiot with a cdl class A and heavy equipment certifications. now that said. i take tae kwon do and could probably put some people in the hospital. that said.. i like the volt. all you traitors who want a prius, you are a wanna be. get a diesel, be a man.

  • @12valvepower4 YES,,,you are an illiterate liberal asshole. Where's your dunce cap, you village idiot!!

  • im supporting my great country america, with the volt. not a bad car.. ive driven one. and ive driven a prius. prius sux. especially the early ones. my god they were gutless. the volt is slow, but it is not supposed to be a rocket. and it is plenty roomy. great car really, quiet, agile enough, not too pokey, can do highway speeds fine. good job chevrolet i am proud of you.

  • @12valvepower4 You've just proven how stupid you really are. The Prius is PROVEN technology that works. The Japanese didn't rush their car out to market like Obama's zombies over GM did. You dumbass liar. You never drove the Volt. You're a lying hick!

  • " The door swings automaticly open..when you push the button" Does this guy think about what hes saying?

  • "If you have ankles that hurt dont get a volt"

What? How many people sit in the back seat of their own car?

This " review" is a bit silly.

  • A friend got tricked into a volt. It cost $45. a month to charge

  • LOL it swings automatic but you have to push the button.

  • Would the Volt have a noisy generator? Also, why be worried about charging your car if more companies set up charging stations? They can even put up solar panels with it.

  • So! The volt is just a gas powered gererator on wheels?

  • @tbzooski its all electric if you want to go 35 miles without the help of a little gas for the battery. So you can plug it in every day and pay 1.50 a day as they say on the chevy site.

  • Comment removed

  • The Nissan Leaf is all electric. The heater and air runs off battery. If you run out of battery you are toast. Not to mention the charging system are burning down people houses. Wow that is good for all of you foreign car tree huggers HUH...Then some idiot compared a Tesla to a volt...Dah a Tesla is $100 grand and in bankruptcy and not even making cars.

  • Tesla Motors electric cars puts General Motors gas powered generators they call volts to shame!

  • @tbzooski Hey dumbie...comparing a Chevy Volt to a Tesla is like comparing a row boat to an aircraft carrier. Tesla's are $100,000. and are in bankruptcy and nor wven making cars for production. Electric cars are junk and don't get any better performance as they did 50 years ago. So much for Obama technology.

  • @dawinner777 i dont like obama either, but I do say that the bailout was a good idea for GM. chrysler, Im a little more hesitant about, but I want to give them time.

  • @fatty1443 not your money to give them more time. they Failed!

For you libtards; failure is what happens when a company is not sustainable. You all know that word very well. You love to through it around when talking about all the other stupid ideas you all come up with.

Too bad about GM. I was a Chevy guy for life until 2011. Bought a toyota, and don't think I'll ever look back...

  • As long as our AC (mains) won't be finished. We still can charge a car :D

  • holy shit the charging door just swings right open... is it even worth arguing?

clearly the volt is far superior

  • 2:00 If you buy a Volt, you're gonna be sitting on the driver's seat sir.

  • ...but the Volt is wonderful. The leaf looks like an ugly toy car.

  • I want my Jetson-Mobile. By now it should have been a reality. So screw all of these electric cars. Seems to me that when my battery would go dead, I'd be driving a brick. I think I'll pass for the next 5+ years. What we really need out here in the real world is a good sturdy $3,000 car that can be used for College, shopping, etc. How bout a repli-car line of '60s to '70s cars that won't get my kid killed if he's stupid, and we can work on together on the weekends. Sounds good to me.

  • "If you have ankles that hurt, don't get a Volt".... Good god.

  • These vehicels dont have long distance capability, so who cares how your ass feels after a long trip.

  • Americans are so lazy... seeing how hard it is to get in and out of a vehicle is not something I'd worry about when paying that much for a car

  • I would have like to hear about how much gas the supposedly electric Volt uses when you drive it.

  • I watched it for the comparison between the two vehicles..... not the asshat rambling on in the foreground.

  • leaf is BUTT ugly, good christ it's ugly

  • Well Nissan is a brand that always look different than typical cars.

  • lol... got that mixed up with the Tesla Model X

  • forgot front luggage room in the Leaf where the gas engine would be

  • They're electric cars: there is no such thing as a long ride so stop the complaining!

  • It's not a hybrid at all. It's strictly electric.

  • the volt is pretty much a hybrid with a bigger battery

  • What was he afraid to drive them?

  • Cool voice, man.

  • "If you have ankles that hurt, don't get a volt" LOL

  • DOES ALLSTATE SELL VOLT ELECTROCUTION CAR INSURANCE???

  • The backseats are not good for long drives. didn't think you could take a long drive in a electric car. haha

  • I WANT TO SEE CONSUMER REPORTS DO A COMPREHENSIVE , NON BIASED RUTHLESS REPORT ON WHAT THIS RUBE GOLDBERG CAR ACTUALLY CAN DO...

  • Chevy Volt is place of sillyness and Nissan LEAF rock's

  • this why has issue with his thigh

  • i was just thinking. if both cars run off electric and have a fairly low mile age range which is between 50 - 100 miles depending on how you drive, why don't the car makes, manufacture a dynamo which has a spare battery with it, that way when you run out you can simply remove current battery and put the new battery in, then place old battery on the dynamo to charge up, i mean both cars are front wheel drive so the dynamo can use the rear wheels to charge the dead battery..

  • @Gaslydeath

because the system would not make money that way...

  • @JoshDG92 would do if they charged an extra 2 grand for it.. for USA $2000 for UK (where i live) £2000... i can't be assed working out how much the dollar is worth to the pound so i'm just keeping them both at nice even numbers.. beside comedy night is on

  • @Gaslydeath

    Thermodynamics is why.

The dynamo can't be 100% efficient in charging the dead battery.

There will be losses, such as through heat emission that can occur from many parts of the chain, including losses from even small amounts of electrical resistance of the vehicle's wiring and also from conditioning raw electrical current from the dynamo to ensure the battery can be safely charged and the electrical system isn't overloaded.

  • @Gaslydeath

There will also be rolling resistance from the dynamo as charging a dead battery will impose a mechanical load converted from the electrical load, causing the drivetrain to work harder as it not only has to motivate the car but also deal with spinning a dynamo to convert kinetic energy from the car's forward motion to electrical energy to charge the battery.

  • @Gaslydeath

Remember, these cars use regenerative braking, so the dynamo idea is used already.

When the wheels are used to charge the battery, the mechanical load converted from electrical load is what helps to slow the car down. That's how kinetic energy is converted to electrical energy to help charge the batteries via regenerative braking.

It's like having a pedal-powered light on a bicycle. When you turn the light on, you notice how harder it is to pedal? That's the idea.

  • @Watcher3223 yeah but they could add a few hidden solar pannels.. theres enough technology out there these days to make them, that or add a turbine system where as the vehicle is moving it turns some small wind turbines in the front of the car to produce energy. that way no need to slow down the car and the turbines could also produce enough air to keep the engine cool

  • @Gaslydeath

The solar panels can't really be hidden from sight. If they're not visible, then how can they pick up sunlight?

In addition, there are other factors, such as increased cost and complexity, additional weight, additional maintenance requirements, and whether or not the electrical yield is worth the tradeoffs.

There isn't much surface area on a car's body for a photovoltaic system to significantly serve the batteries to overcome the weight and be worth the cost.

  • @Watcher3223 yeah but wind turbines made with magnets and light weight metals. magnets to provide frictionless turning power and the light weight metals to make gentle winds capable of moving the fan blades. then use another magnet to move around inside the turbine while the blades are turning making a small bit of metal move to give off the power. it would cost about £200 per turbine possibly same amount for the USD (US dollar)

  • @Gaslydeath

"that or add a turbine system where as the vehicle is moving it turns some small wind turbines in the front of the car to produce energy."

A turbine designed to turn a dynamo can still act as a kind of air brake when it must spin against a load, which can increase drag.

  • @Watcher3223 not if using frictionless materials, a Jaguar has some inside of it to boost the cars performance so that it can keep it cool

  • @Gaslydeath

And, the other problem is where you are getting that energy.

The majority of automobiles use fossil fuel. A Volt uses that and household mains.

That's all the energy you have to work with, so the best approach is to find ways to conserve what's in reserve in the vehicle, with one of the best ways being to convert waste heat back into usable energy.

You can't approach the problem by thinking you can extract energy easily outside from what the vehicle already has.

  • @Gaslydeath

"the turbines could also produce enough air to keep the engine cool"

A better solution is to find ways to capture as much heat energy from the drivetrain as possible and put it back to work by converting it to usable energy rather than allow it to be wasted through dissipation.

Create a small scale internal pressurized vessel using a small steam turbine that can spin a dynamo or an alternator, powered by steam from water heated to boiling by hot coolant.

  • @Watcher3223 that would be a good idea.. things do need to be run by steam again i think just using electric heat rather than fire. but yeah i think they should do your idea. but still use frictionless materials because old steam vehicles had the problem of all their parts making high friction limiting their performance.

  • @Gaslydeath

Thank you for your complement on the idea, but there is one problem with my idea: scale.

Is it possible to create a steam pressurized electrical generation system powered strictly by automotive coolant that's low cost and practical?

Can it generate enough electricity in normal use to actually assist in minimizing power consumption to a significant enough degree to make the extra cost and complexity worthy?

  • @Gaslydeath

There's no way we can make a system that's 100% efficient or perpetual.

Observe the law of energy conservation. You can't create energy out of nowhere; there must be energy that exists to convert it into another form.

For instance, petrol is a form of energy (matter is energy). Combustion converts this energy into another form: heat and kinetic energies. Most energy from this process is wasted as heat, so find ways to conserve it and you will improve efficiency.

  • @Watcher3223 I just heard a popping sound. That was libs in the distance trying to understand this post.

BTW, you know you're a racist for talking about energy like that?

  • @Truther41God

I don't think they'd stretch the race card that far.

Maybe the neanderthal tag, but not racist.

  • Wait, so which one has longer range?!?! You would think that would be an important comparison!

  • @critter505 nissan leaf does about 100miles depending on how you drive i know that much.. as for the volt dunno..

  • @Gaslydeath Thank you. You know, it seems like the best one out there, isn't even out there yet. The Ford Focus electric looks like it is better than the volt and the leaf.

  • @critter505 i think it may well be. also look up the BMW I, they have concept cars for electric ones which at the moment don't go very far but they hope to make one which can do 200 miles before it runs out

  • @Gaslydeath Oh, nice, thanks.

  • Not enough thigh support for a "long ride"??? The longest ride and range these vehicles will ever travel is like 45 minutes, they are electric not gas, how long of a trip does this guy think these vehicles can go.

  • "not comfortable for long drive"...man, it has just 100 miles range...then you will have 6 hours to rest

  • @EgregorRato speed charger can do it in less 30 mins.

  • @nihonkokusai it doesnt mean anything. 2 hours of driving and 20 minutes of rest. No would be tired.

  • @nihonkokusai well are all petrol stations fitted with a charger? if not you are stranded.

  • @nihonkokusai you won't be stranded in the volt. It has an engine that powers the generator by using gasoline when you deplete the battery.

  • @bmstyle I know that just defeated the purpose for being a full battery car!

I mean the leaf needs are charger.

  • @nihonkokusai It's way too early for a full electric car you know?? The price, the availability of charging stations, the time it takes to charge is just out of place for now. You gotta start somewhere though and this will surely advance into the future. You just cant jump in from gasoline to electric cold turkey......

  • Well that was a good review, I enjoyed watching it. But how do these cars do on the road? What do they drive like? Is the suspension smooth or rough? How well do they stop? And for Canadians like me, how do these cars do in the winter? Does the heater drain the battery too fast? Will it charge when the temperature is -20? Would it need/ can I get a block heater?

  • @pomink good questions, I am curious too....I hope someone makes such a review.

  • that guy looks like a cross between newt gingrich and ron paul O_O

  • Buy American!!!!

  • This guy is pitching these cars to a bunch of seniors

  • what a dreadful voice that man has!

  • I feel so pitty for your twisted foot, lol. Seriously who cares? It's an environmental friendly car!

  • @ClimateProgressWorld one thing about these electric cars is they address the issue that almost every car only has ONE person in it. That one little experience of a rear passanger getting out is going to be a very small experience....maybe 20 times a year?

  • Comment removed

  • I need my god damn thighs supported Nissan and Chevy! Jeez

  • He is ALL about the thigh support. The volt is a better car all around.I can start the volt, check battery charge, lock, unlock, check tiems for servicing, get e mails from my car.Gm has this .Nissans are UGLY and offer NOTHING!Ill take the GM anyday over a foreign car.ESPECIALLY a toyota.Toyota are LIARS!Thats why they got fined over 30 million and have had to pay millions to families who have lost loved ones in a crash due to toyota not building a safe car!Say what you want!I dont give money to lie

  • leaf rang about 100 miles

    Volt range about 390 miles

    volt looks better to

    Volt wins

  • @TheCarlos4398 the problem is...the Volt is not a pure EV

  • @Bagadaboats how is that a problem?

  • @TheCarlos4398 Gas doesn't count. Gas is murder.

  • @DarthNefatious gas is murder what the fuck does gas kill

  • @ModdinMane Because of oil there are wars. Nobody's died for electricity. nuf said.

  • @DarthNefatious your right but i still like gas i gotta have it for my 4 wheeler, boat and the 3 cars i got i just cant depend on these types of cars.

  • @DarthNefatious

And electricity comes out of the socket. Magic.

  • American we always do It better !

  • Was there a competition in this video?

  • @brentseay They Improve on others Inventions. But lack originality & creativity of Americans.

  • Japanese. They always do it better.

  • The volt looks pretty boss for an electric

  • The volt will always be the obvious choice for the average buyer

  • @DIOSpeedDemon 100% true

  • ur voice is so damn annoying

  • If I had a Volt and went to buy groceries at the nearest town forty miles away, it would mean a three day trip and two hotels to get there (if the hotels had a charging station). I'd run out of power 3/4 of the way there, have to get a room while charging overnight and continue on the next day. Same on the return trip. No one can say this isn't a VERY BAD JOKE ON ALL OF US! Our tax money went not only to bail out this disaster, but paid for this asinine advertisement! Thanks Barry!

  • @leestauf dude it also has a 1.4L engine,so after 40 miles u will not b left stranded......u can go many more miles.......

  • @leestauf Well the volt has a distance of 40 miles per charge with a range extender, something that the people at Nissan were not smart enough to include in the leaf. Although the leaf can go 100 miles per charge and the volt can only go 40, the range extender which also charges the battery as you drive is a necessity. Volt is the obvious choice to any person who knows a thing or two about electric cars.

  • The Chevy volt is not an electric car. It is a hybrid

  • @stbr0510 False do your research and its obviously not

  • @DIOSpeedDemon SHUT THE WORLD UP B@#%*!!!

  • @Osagie014 WE TAXPAYERS SUBSIDIZED THIS TOTAL PIECE OF SHIT TO THE TUNE OF 250,000$ U.S. THEY WERE ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO SELL 100,000 UNITS IN TWO YEARS TO BREAK EVEN. THEY SOLD 607 OF THEM LAST MONTH...YOU DO THE MATH. REMEMBER BEFORE YOU SELL IT, YOU WILL HAVE TO PUT A NEW 10,000$ NEVER-READY BATTERY IN IT. =EPIC FAIL...

  • @DIOSpeedDemon YOU THINK IT SHIT NO AND STOP COMPLAINING

  • @Osagie014 YOU SPEND 20.000$ OVER A NORMAL CAR TO SAVE .50 CENTS ON A GALLON OF GAS??? ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY?? THIS CAR WILL FAIL FASTER THAN THE FORD EDSEL, JUST WATCH...

  • @Osagie014 THIS CAR HAS LIKE 1000 AMPS CORSING THRU IT. WHEN YOU GET IN A WRECK, THE PARAMEDICS WILL WAIT TILL AFTER YOUR CRISPY-CRITTERED, AND THE BATTERY DISCHARGED, (2 WEEKS), BEFORE THEY EVEN THINK OF GETTING NEAR YOU IN THAT DEATH TRAP. IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A GIANT BUGG ZAPPER WITH YOU, THE IDIOT BUYER, BEING THE BUGG...

  • @DIOSpeedDemon actually the casing has a kill switch which is engaged in a collision and the areas around the engine have a lot of rubber to reduce chances of shock. that and a simple break in the circuit kills the battery, kinda like a hoover when you pull the plug out while the hoover is still on.

  • @Gaslydeath SO, YOU GET IN A WRECK, THE 400 POUND BATTERY BURSTS AND YOU GET TO WATCH WHOEVER IS UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO BE WITH YOU IN THIS DEATHTRAP, TO GET COVERED WITH GALLONS OF DEADLY BATTERY ACID AND MELT BEFORE THE CAR DOES. DEATH BY BATTERY ACID IS ONE OF THE MOST GRUESOME WAYS TO DIE... THIS LEMON IS A PIGG WITH LIPSTICK..

  • @DIOSpeedDemon DUDE!! enough with the caps locks ffs it doesn't do anything other than make you look daft. anyways batteries take a lot of battering before they burst. i mean i've seen a tank run over one of these cars batteries and well all i can say is they are very very tough, also they will be well padded to make sure they don't split when in a crash which is already rare as it is. i mean its just like a normal car just different engine..

  • @Gaslydeath LETS JUST SEE HOW THE SALES FIGURES PAN OUT. I BET THIS LOSER VOLT IS CANCELLED IN SIX MONTHS TOPS. GM SUCKS.

  • @Osagie014 LET'S DO A LITTLE MATH SHALL WE? THE CHEVY VOLT, PRIUS , LEAF AND TESLA CAR HAS A BATTERY LIFE OF APPROXIMATELY 5-8 YEARS. THEN YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES OR THE CAR IS WORTHLESS. CHEVY VOLT BATTERY= 9000$ . PRIUS HYBRID BATTERY=4000$. LEAF BATTERY= 18,000$ FUCKING DOLLARS. TESLA BATTERY REPLACEMENT= 35,000$. ARE YOU GOING TO PUT A NEW BATTERY IN EVERY TIME YOU SELL ONE OF THESE TURDS?? YOU DO THE MATH...

  • IMHO, the Volt is superior due to its versatility. It's not that I'd never buy a Leaf, it's that I could never OWN a Leaf, because I would have to then own two vehicles; the Leaf for commutes, and a second gas-powered vehicle for interstate travel. The Volt may not get stellar economy on gas alone, but at least the option is there. It is for this reason that EV will only ever be a niche market... at least until we have batteries that can recharge in seconds, and recharge stations everywhere.

  • @coasterpro Good point!

  • this guy is an idiot. instead of comparing what these two vehicles actually drive, he compares head room and thigh support.

  • @Addicted2Saab lol Calling John and idiot is funny. Clearly you are not a regular viewer. Yes indeed, people car about Head room and thigh support. When people look at the Leaf and Volt, they arent caring how they drive, BECAUSE THEY ARENT SPORTS AND PERFORMANCE CARS!!!! Only performance and enthusiasts - Which John is in fact, care about how eco cars actually perform haha.... everyone else just gets in and drives them!

  • both failed

we r not there yet, people dont want these golf carts

  • @Joeyland SHUT UP B@#%$!!!!!!!!

  • @Osagie014 THE BASE PRICE OF A VOLT IS 6,000$ + THE PRICE OF FIRE AND EXPLOSION INSURANCE =37,000$...

  • @DIOSpeedDemon soldiers are on the ground defending you and our need for oil. is that worth your mouth.

  • @12valvepower4 youre brainwashed kid, most of americas oil comes from alberta, canada. fact.

  • @12valvepower4 Did your momma have any children that survived childbirth???

  • If you have ankles that hurt, don't fucking drive.

    General Motors all the way.

  • is this really a video... the volt wins any day, its so much better. and it doesn't look retarded. plus i have a volt, getting in the back seat is easy, its the same as any car... this guy is an idiot
