Its just simply a great game, The greatest James Bond game ever, it redefined the fps on consoles, and even made PC shooters at that time stand up and take notice. And all this on a console that was still only cartridge wen all other video-games bk then had moved onto Disc format, this is y I got so much luv for Goldeneye64. The fact its even had spin-offs and re-imaginings for today just shows exactly why this game is so great.

Not that this games bad, it just looks very, very, VERY dated and some of the mechanics aren't as polished as the games today. But thats understandable, considering it was made 16 years ago.

I actually liked Perfect Dark better, but this was a great game. They were both made by the same companies on both on the N64. You can even tell that they reused a lot of the levels but just changed the designs.

The best shooting game I've played. Every other one I've played since has too many buttons & is too complex & has a sense of pointlessness to it. You realise this isn't fun, allright I made it to the 2nd level, who cares? I dont understand why with games with perfect gameplay (Mario kart on snes is a good example) they dont just make a game with identical gameplay but with different stages & maybe a few minor things different. They bring out another Bond game & It's completely different & shit!

@poogix I liked trying to shoot every scientist in the stage once. It's like I had a bit of ocd & had to shoot every one. The worst thing was when you shot the wrong one & then tried to complete the stage with a mad scientist throwing grenades at you which was impossible because the fuckhead would end up blowing himself up!

Aww man this was probably my favourite game on N64. I liked playing multiplayer too, cuz once you get the golden gun it's light out if you knew how to use it. I remember playing with my older brother and his friends, and we would all smack each other up in the game. It would always end up getting loud when we played this game. I'm gonna be buying this system again soon from a certain store in my city, and I gotta get this game, if they have it.

I disagree with this review, Goldeneye doesn't hold up for me anymore, it feels clunky and aiming manually is a pain the ass especially with the sniper. Modern shooters are just better to play but if i felt like going old school id pop in doom or wolfenstein over this.

@0532MOET Well Cod is the most popular it handles smooth and plays well. Battlefield 3 is an excellent choice if you dig mp shooters.

If you want a story driven shooter try Bioshock, easily one of my favorite games this gen, if you have a good pc try the orginal Crysis, beautiful game which is basically open world.

Team fortress 2 is another solid title, Portal 1/2, Left 4 dead 1/2. Try Halo reach or Halo 3, or Halo combat evolved for the PC all are great. These games are all fantastic

Story? Im pretty confident the major draw to Goldeneye was the split screen *multiplayer*, not the story. The story was weak and almost nonexistant. It was the smooth gunplay and multiplayer modes thatmade this game great. Regardless, go ahead and keep your crappy 1997 games all you want to yourself. The rest of us will be busy playing amazing 2011 games like Skyrim while you fall asleep bored after redundantly blasting through repetitive corridors with blocky faces and washed out textures.

@sonicadv27 Goldeneye was a milestone, indeed. Particularly on consoles. Discovering how to make fire with two sticks was also a milestone for mankind, but that doesn't make it the ideal method. Hell, there are free games that have been superior to both Goldeneye *and* modern games. America's Army Special Forces (AA2) for example, in it's prime was essentially a better-paced Counter Strike. Every match required solid teamwork, a good strategy, and had excellent tension buildup.
