Have you had your house current tested? Dirty voltage (voltage that is not steady and has lots of spikes in it) can cause electronics to go bad. Have you had problems with any of your other electronics? I'm not doubting your story, but unless all those units you sent out for repairs truly broke on their own, that's the only thing I can think of why that many would go bad.

Either way the disk will ruin. Because if the console sways or tips the slightest bit it will scratch it. Thats why I went PS3 over 360 becase it sucks the games in instead of using a disk tray.

Dude PS2 and Xbox has a shit load of laser issues! I think PS1 had a few issues with that as well. There is so many problems with the original xbox, fortunately I can fix most of the problems it presents, same with PS2. My fat PS2 laser quit on me. I found a blue halo 2 edition outside someones house and it had a bad disc drive, fixed it. Now the generations before discs, those were reliable. Frick almost anyone who owns an NES can still play it. Things fell apart when everyone went to discs.
