I think the players have a big amount of respect for the equipment managers, since they are devoting their lives for the players to feel as good as they can in their equipment. Most player will get the sticks for free and if not... They still make at the very least (shitty or rookie) 500k+ So it's pocket change for $300 stick. If you know and Eq manager it's Awsome! You get the game used sticks that they were going to toss or whatever cause they get to "whippy" for the players. And they get like different matte finish paint on it. Or

it depends.. some players get them for free. like kaner does because he only uses nike bauer so he advertises for them and he gets free stuff. they all only wear certain brands. Toews wears easton, keith wears reebok, sharp wears reebok. They have to bring all those sticks because each guy needs 2 or 3 sticks incase it gets broken while playing or they cut it wrong.
