I have the RD-700 (non SX) series which I absolutely love. You have some serious skill especially playing jazz chords, I haven't quite mastered jazz yet though I love they way it sounds. I'm curious what software applications you're using on your laptop there? I've tried Sonar, Sound Forge, and Audacity but I have trouble getting the audio mix to sound right. I'd like to be able to keep each instrument layer separate in the software but I'm not sure what programs offer that ability.

Not a fan of the organ sounds by any means...really exaggerated vibrato and rotary effects. Go with the Clavia Nord series instead!!! I'd prefer the Roland RD700sx for the piano sounds though!

I narrowed down my choices to 300sx, 700sx, fp-4 and fp-7.

in terms of mellowness of piano sound and similarity to steinway d concert grand, which of these four is closest? also, in terms of action some experts think fp-4 action si closer to concert grand feel than fp-7. in that regard, between 300sx and 700sx which one is closer in action to fp-4? what piano patches are in each of these four?

The Nord Stage EX does a much better job of the vintage tones - rhodes, wurlitzer and hammond to name a few.

I have a RD700SX and love it.... however, are there any manuals available anywhere that describe in better detail how to set-up the instrument to take advantage of all that capability. The Roland manual is lacking.

I'm pretty sure it's the built in sounds. I had a RD-700 years ago and it had a few nice sounding Rhodes.
