I heard this on the Classic FM chart (sorry purists!) a couple of weeks ago but could not catch the name of the piece. Two weeks "Googling" various possible permutations and I have tracked it down! Absolutely stunning heart-rending music.
MrKnockna, i've had this 7cd set (chs7697412) for years , i can't remember where i obtained it. I listen to it so seldom now that i would be glad to let you have it, no strings attatched. Be warned though, your daughter will have to be a serious music lover, there are very few "lollipops" among those cd's. If your sure it wont bore her to tears , e-mail me with an address
Siopann, i have Kim Borg singing this on a seven cd set, but i'm not a poster. I'm not surprised you want to hear his recording --it's quite superb. Perhaps this will at least concentrate some kind poster's mind.
@drnhan94 Try listening to Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, quiet start, then block your ears. I lent a cassette version to a friend, she turned it up at the start, then the cat fell off the back of the sofa when it got to the loud bit. Very scary!
The entire 2 and a half hour 3-part oratorio is equally beautiful and I am amazed that it is not more popular. There is only one complete recording (2 CDs) to be found and even it is very hard to find. It is a beautifully done performance on EMI Classics (CDS 754459 2). Michael Plasson conducts Orch. du Capitole de Toulouse. Complete libretto in Latin, English, German, and French included. The baritone, Jose van Dam, is phenominal in this performance.
The translation of the Sedenti in Throno lyrics is: To him that sits on the Throne, and to the Lamb, benediction and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever.
A very beautiful piece. However, I jumped and flinched when I heard a loud brass instrument attack me! It was so loud at the first moment, and throughout the song I kept expecting the sound to sneak up behind me! But still, it's a calming piece of music and I still enjoyed it...
this piece of music capture my attention is so powerfull and sublime just like God calling, showing His awesome power and His awesome love this will be one off my favorite classical piece
im singing in a choir and we sing this song, it is beautiful also when its preformed by a choir, enclosed you will find the lyrics that we use. Unfortunately i can not translate it.
Sedenti in throno et agno. Benedictio et honor et gloria. Benedictio et honor et gloria, et honor et gloria, et potestas in sæcula sæculorom potestas in sæcula in sæcula, sæculorum.
This piece was played at the end of BBC's (I think) coverage of 9/11. No commentary - just the music over shots of the burning remains of the Twin Towers. Very appropriate and incredibly moving.
great , till a fkn mac donalds add comes up !!! DE-MONETIZE YOUR ACCOUNT.. your supporting the very people that supress the liberal arts!

Gounod reminds me of the character 'Quint' in the movie Jaws.... and so does his music.
