  • I believe this is off his 'Heart of Gold' Concert Video.Excellent video for fans of all ages

  • Emmylou Harris provided backup vocals, along with Peggy Young and others

  • sigh

  • ohh, the 70s, how really time flies, it was my childhood full of good memories and the jukebox near in our house that this song was always being played along with Skyline Pigeon, Rhinestone Cowboy, Don't Forget to Remember. Thanks for the music and for posting.

  • this song couldn't get any better

  • nice song i have heard and enjoyed listening with the song since the 70's till this time

  • Young love, enjoy your 20s and 30s.

  • Is that Nicolette Larson singing with him?

  • @MrRazorblade999 Yes thats Nicolette. Gone before her time.

  • I know My Barbra Rose (in Heaven since Nov. 2010) heard this. I guess I shouldn't feel silly because My Darling of Darlings (Barbra) said that I look a bit like Neil Young. This song is for us, My Heavenly-Resplendent Wife -- My Barbra Rose. Barbra - I love you ad infinitum! If you come back from Heaven, look for me, My Darling Barbra. I'll be waiting.

  • God keep Nicollette forever. Her voice is definitely worthy of Heaven. Four Strong Winds, Comes A Time, and Harvest Moon, are Neil's most beautiful songs. They speak beauty and life to the heart and soul. These songs also remind me of my late and Heavenly-resplendent wife -- My Western Star -- My Barbra Rose (who left this realm for her home in Heaven on November 22, 2010).

  • I ♥ this song :-)

  • I love this song, Neil is awesome!!!!!!

  • Possibly the most beautiful song written

  • @Mapesy00 I agree 110%! Movie soundtrack music -- for certain!

  • I live in Philippines... Good theme for this if will tanslate in tagalog.. :D

  • Wow, I thought it was Nicollette Larson, then googled and it said Emmylou Harris, so went to the Nicollette Larson's web page and it confirmed that she (Nicolette) was the untitled singer (on the single release) of Four Strong Winds by Neil. Sadly she was taken too early. A wonderful voice and talent. Also did quite a bit of work on Young's "American Stars and Bars".

  • Who's the girl singing with Neil in this song?

  • @nevermindme10 Just a guess on my part , I think its Nicolette Larson . She recorded a couple of his songs in the late 70 s .

  • @antisocialisme My dad says it's his wife. Not sure, but my dad is a Neil Young expert:P

  • @dudiaz I think your dad is right

  • @nevermindme10 Her name was Nicollette Larson she did harmony on Neil''s album

"Comes a Time" (I think) great (vinyl) album! She passed away within 5 or 10 years of its issue. Peace.

  • Greatest Canadian song of all time. Done by the greatest of all time.

  • @parthiacrk So so moving...I feel like crying... I agree!

  • you should see the dvd : prairie wind... amazing Neil at his best!

  • The best time in Alberta is the fall! Ian Tyson's wrote some great stuff!!

  • This Ian and Sylvia song is great! I believe it was recorded around 1964 and became a sensational international hit.

  • The phenomenal Ian Tyson wrote this song. He is a Canadian treasure.

  • Niel is the greatest story teller for America

  • i prefer bob dylan and the band's version. its slower and more solemn

  • taildragginone; thanks for info on Nicolette Larson, and I must correct myself, it was written by Ian Tyson (Ian and Sylvia) and popularized by The Brothers Four

in the very early 60s. bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbboB

  • Nicolette Larson is the background vocalist.R.I.P.Nicolette.

  • Gotta love this song!! I think this must be why I moved to Alberta right after high school from Nova Scotia. Gotta love Mr Young!!

  • Emmy Lou Harris is prefect at supporting Neil. Just as she was for Graham Parsons.

  • ☼ SOLAR ♫ LOVE ♥ Liberty ∞

  • Who is the lady singing harmony? Linda Ronstadt, maybe? This is not a country song; it is folk music all the way; Peter, Paul, and Mary popularized it in the early 60s, I remember. Neil does a nice cover. bbbbbbboB

  • @bobhedstrom Nicolette Larson.

  • Bountiful!

    Love it

  • I dont know why people like Bieber, Madonna, Gaga, Spears and other more...I was born in 90's and I love old song. I like the message of the song, unlike now, SATANIC! haha

  • @pabanil It has all been planned for many many years. So sad to see us being pushed in that direction by a few

    ruthless Banksters.

  • hi Sir Neil Young .. I really loved your songs and the way you sing!

  • thank you for sharing this GREAT song .. xxxx

  • this is the kind of song that will live on forever and ever...real classic, pure music from the legendary neil...

  • My all time fav. Neil Young song. Excellent. Thanks for posting this.

  • Loving it just loving it always...

  • now I know who Dewey Cox was impersonating at the end of walk hard lmao great song too

  • What Neil did with Ian Tyson's version, spending all of him money playing the song over and over is what I did with Neil's song Heart of gold :)

  • That martin d28 belonged to Hank Williams

  • im a 90's child and cant get enough of neil young, im gunna love this guy forever. his music just hits the right emotion with every song!

  • 1978. Think about that. Sounds brand new.

  • Autumn in Alberta may be like summer as it is for the next week or early winter. I've been here since '67 so I have a little history.

  • this is a damn good song

  • one of the first song i learned on guitar. i was in grade school then.. down good memory lane.just beautiful good old days.

  • @.. WHEN I HEARD THIS SONG, I FEEL VERY STRONG.

  • The harmonies of Nicolette Larson puts the magic in this fine tune.

  • What a fine version of this song could listen to it all day long.

  • I believe Neil Young heard this Ian Tyson song on his local Juke Box and spent every spare dime on playing it over and over again, love this song.

  • heard all kinds of people do this song, nobody does it better than this.

  • If you like the lyrics to Neil Young's songs then you may very well like KOZMIC DREAMERS whose artistic vision and expression, defines them as one of a kind. Buy one of the songs or poems on iTunes

  • amazing song, amazing artist but one point of objection... I live in Alberta and the weather's FUCKING AWFUL HERE IN THE FALL

  • @1longshot3 LOL !!

  • @1longshot3 LOl... I thought the same thing when I heard this many many moons ago... I used to play professional Minor league Baseball in Buffalo and we had a few canadien temmates. When we had time off a few of us would trvel to canada with them.... We had some great times but man it was cold!!

  • @1longshot3 well, I wish you'd change your mind, so I'll ask you one more time...

  • @1longshot3 k, point taken the weather does suck in Alberta in the fall, but it is worse in the winter right?

  • Amazing :considering he DIDN'T write it ...a bit like he did a 'cover' of OH LONESOME ME :f'in great ...I've played it for yrs. on my ol' "pre Gibson EPIPHONE'!!!!!!Would like someone to fill me in'(that means inform me'...by the way!!!!!Whether he himself wrote Lookout For My Love?????It hits the spot'!XXXcreashonrebel

  • headin to CFB waynewrite in alberta for a stint ill miss the wife n kids for sure .

  • Jeg elsker denne udgave ..

  • Old songs are about good things that are being sung by good singers, be it Neil Young, KISS, or Michael Jackson.

Nowadays, songs are about party (reserve for one about friday) that are being sung mostly by robots.

  • I do believe that' s the late Nicollette Larson backing up Neil. Should have been a Country hit. Great version !

  • amazing. i assume that's emmy lou....

  • Love Niel and this version of the song

  • Big difference with my ex.

  • Rob.. if you don't appreciate this song, then you don't have any clue of what a good song is.

  • Neil sounds good here on this fantastic classic

  • Neil Young is fantastic... but i can't listen to this song anymore, because i played it at a really close friends funeral... :( i crack up every time i hear it :(

  • Edmonton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna miss you Alberta!!! See you hpefully again in 1 year!

  • Dave here. What's with this "good on you" talk? Fresh off the farm, eh? Sounds like the results of a well-set stain. "That ink's on ya' real good." The late, great Molly Ivins used to say that, "Good ON ya'." Us "back-easty" types say, "Good for you (to have done that)!" Good ol' Neil! Voice still sounds the same, but when he talks his voice is more congruent with his age. Appropriately mature.

  • what a great song... the movie of niel's concerts featuring this was so good. the guitar pull at the end was overwhelmingly beautiful.

this has nothing to do with it but i was in blind river in 1962 :)

    thaks for posting :)

  • just on the chance you haven't seen it, here is the piece i was mentioning.

    watch?v=FK7JbQOuUBo :)

    peace & love

  • Reminds me of my '82 chevy truck when ya mention Blind River back in 1962

  • How I miss Nicolette Larson! Great singer, Angel's voice!

Now, she's in Heaven sing with the Angels Of God!

    R.I.P.

  • Classic!

    Tks for posting!

  • Classic. I can't believe I feel the same pleasure listening to this today as I did back then.

  • this is NOT country, this is folk man- country destroyed it's ties with folk a long time ago

  • @TheFermiParadox Not if you listen to the right artists.

  • Yeah although weather isn't good in the winter in Alberta :P

  • @snhboys-youre right but hes got charisma+Crosby Stills Nash+Young is an Institution just because of what they did Rust never dies ! And why shouldnt Gents with no voice but huge ambition and ability on Guitar+Humanity dont come up?All of them are an Instituion and made a lot for Men/Woman.Make it better or shut up and stay where you are........It never will be the same again you have to come along with todays matters-yesterdays gone, wont come back

  • There's nothing like facing the 4 strong winds ,and remain standing.

  • Let me share you my story with this song.

18, and ranaway from home- sick of it all- one day played guitar for money in the Barcelona underground...and met a guy who did this song.

It never left my spine since then.

  • @kjallesoft did u get it tattooed on ur back like?

  • @kjallesoft Then you were really blessed that day!! Thanks for sharing your story

  • What a simple yet haunting and beautiful melody that makes want to sing along and listen to the song over and over. It takes you back to the old time of pleasant and priceless memories. Thanks Neil Young... love it.

  • The best song of all time !!!

  • It doesn't matter whether you're 15 or not. Age does not have a co-relation to musical taste. It's dependent on what you grew up listening to and whether you liked it or not. Seriously, just because someone's young and they like something old isn't a big deal.

  • If you've ever lived in our home, you'd know what four strong winds were!! I always smile when I hear this pretty song.

    :o)

  • ian and sylvia

  • Great song from a great album by a great artist.

  • Awesome~!~!~!~

  • :) Thank you Neil Young for lyrics like no others.. Sigh. I'm finding all the songs I want tonight.. do I dare try for one more?

  • It is Nicolette Larson.

  • nice. hard for me to believe hester sang this song (owen meany reference)

  • love you neil young,ur the best

  • the girl voice on this vid rhymes perfectly!!

  • @MrRuneSand Good Morning / PM whatever is the time with you. I just came across this song to remember my parents' favorite song. I was saddened by your comments about your village, the killings and worst of all "legalizing paedophilia". Omg!!! Maybe, the one who legalized PAEDOPHILIA is also a Paedophil himself. So sad. May GOD Bless YOU, your family and your village. Our LIFE here on earth is just like a "STOPOVER". Everyone is responsible for his actions at the END of TIMES. GOD Bless.

  • @zaaritha...I owned the "Comes a Time" album, and I believe those parts were sung by Nicholette Larson, who dies a few years ago.

  • Is it Emmy- Lou hHarrisin the background?

  • @zaaritha Boy, you have a good ear...yes, it is Emmy Lou.

  • Wooo! Alberta!!

  • to get covered by neil young is the greatest compliment a song can get.

  • i love ian tyson...but man..neil really pulls at my heart with this one

  • Like Neil, from the first time I heard this song I can never get enough of it, thanks Neil for turning me onto it.

  • asylumescapist21 - what was the point of that comment? Ian Tyson wasn't mentioned.

  • so wonderfull

  • It is Nicolette Larson...backing vocals.......she has passed now....but she had an awesome voice...check out " Lotta Love " another Young classic...and she soars...R.I.P. Nicolette....Thanks for posting ....Neil Youngs' music always remains timeless...

  • @leotimpano She also backed that Christopher Cross album that was big way back. And was great.

  • Please dig my cover of Neil Youngs HELPLESS!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Think I'll go out to Alberta...

  • @sunonthewindow - why? 'cause you heard the weather's good there in the fall?

  • @MrRuneSand Ok, dude, you need to take your meds.. Absolutely nothing you said is true, if they were i'm sure Norway wouldnt be nominated as the best country to live in for the last decade, with a cpl exceptions. And for you to actually type this crap and make a fool of yourself.. thenagain i'm suspecting a troll is loose..

  • My God! Is Norway really like that,? I'm stunned...

Nice song, one of my favs...

    Ireland...

  • @MrRuneSand

    1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Bless you and all your family awaiting

  • @MrRuneSand

My heart and prayers go out to you my friend. This crap seems to always happen when governments grow to big. It's starting to happen here. It's as if everyone actually becomes what they hate most. Growing up in the 60's and 70's, all of us thinking we were open minded, just wanted government to stay out of our lives, we wanted to be free of that. Now many of those people think they need government to save and take care of them. WTF? Obama's just another Wall St. stooge and tool.

  • @IceRide too, not "to"

  • @Larabees There's even grammar cops now "too"! LOL! I stand corrected but hope the fine isn't "too" big....

    There's hope for me "too"...

  • neil young is a legend as in.........

  • Definitely Nicolette Larson.

    Neil, long may you run

  • Nicolette Larsen? I bet it is.

  • great great artist. What a excelent voice and performing.

  • Superb ! I have to say I can't really remember hearing this song before, but neil young's voice and the great harmony really make this folk-era song.

  • What a tunesmith, lyrics that send shivers down my spine, just wonderful, means so much to me.

  • Ein wunderschöner Titel von NEIL YOUNG,

er ist und bleiibt einer der besten Musiker

  • WHY is this DVD going for an average 50 bucks on amazon, used 20 bucks, HELLO???

  • Four Strong Winds, composed by Ian Tyson: A grand old Canadian song, sung here, by a grand old Canadian

  • @thealbionbands right on! do you know the female voice in this song?

  • @tenyardrambo

    Nicolette Larson

  • @tenyardrambo Emmylou Harris I think. Maybe some others, Pegi Young possibly.

  • @thealbionbands All those things that wont change come what may.

  • @thealbionbands i like joan baez version too

  • Nic Park (Wallace & Grommit) played this tune over and over again to get into 'character' when poor Grommit left home driven out by the bad penguin in The Wrong Trousers. He said it was such a sad song and helped with his modelling.

  • you can,t help lovin this .Still perplexed that any search for Prairie wind tune is fruitless?

    regards
