you don't have to find the stud on the roof, the roof under the singles is ply, or ship wood, and would secure with more strength then you'd ever need, good job tho, have been watching all the videos, you should have put black tar under your l brackes before you screwed them into the roof to prevent water from leaking into your house
For anyone else who might be checking this video out. // The comment below (an Ad actually) from "checksummemedchest" for a website where you can check out the "LT-MAGNET" device. Beware. The product is a complete scam. No, I am not a rep. of Big Oil ... geesh, How naive do these people think we are?!?

that is pressure treated 4"x4" post and those are trusses or rafters.... i would have used 2x4 and sink 3 1/2 inch screws into it. I'd run the wires somewhere else too.
hi robert, im finking about following your videos step by step just as something to do in my spare time. i understand everything your saying and i understand the general theory of electricity and solar panels as i am currently an apprentice marine electrician and am studying electrical engineering in college. the only question i have to ask you is.. where did you mount your battery? within the shed? maybe the corner? lol write back if you get a chance. chears :D and good job on vids

I bought a 3 panel solar kit off eBay, it came with a metal frame to setup on the ground. I used 1x4 pine boards to mount them on my roof. I painted the wood white to accent the panels, and to preserve the wood. They're still up there 3 years later, flush and tight to the roof, and the metal frame I never used. To each his own, good luck!
@Bobster986 when u say the wood 4 x 4's wasn't needed, could he have just attached the solar panel to the roof the same way he attached the two 4 x 4 's ?
Great vid man, I am thinking about mounting my panels to the roof one day. One of my favorite parts of the video was the bird aka jet fighter taking off at 4:08......It was like "Swoosh I'm outta here" LOL
If you did not notice, there are "Parts" to the whole video. So obviously at part 12 you would be looking close to the end of the video which involves mounting it to the roof. Try starting at "Part 1" if you want to see the process of making the solar panel itself.
Id consider sticking a shingle piece underneath the shingle above the L Bracket and lap it over the bracket part on the roof just so water has a run off over the bracket rather then a place to pool and later run down the screw holes.
Those shingles will expand and contract between winter and summer and maybe open up the screw holes just enough to be annoying.
shame its not sealed least it still works

I wonder if placing some silicon grain packets in the panel would help with moister control?

You should really replace that 22 gauge wire with something heavier- you will be losing two volts in that!

This video does not say how to build a solar panel. It says how to install one that is already built!
