  • Personally I prefer the sixties original although this updated version is not 'bad' necessarily. Regrettable that the EMI Music overlords have blocked it on youtube in the US. But that's the American corporate mentality, huh?

  • Amazing version !

  • sheer beauty. how can anyone dislike this?? sure it's very different from the classic version you hear on the radio. but it's just and awesome rendition. open your ears people!

  • anche questa versione si lascia ascoltare

  • this is very good..

  • sorry louisnl, this song is a 1967,er song....i think you are to young, but questions to your father...

  • @54326541 I very well know this song was released in 1967. But this BBC recording was made in the 80ties. As I'm old enough myself (60 years of age!!) I'm not going to ask my father.

  • @Louisnl ROFL ! Nice answer !

  • I like this slow tempo to :)

  • It always was a great song..............i remember playing in a band with davie and during rehearsals when we had a break for a smoke he would sit and write down parts of songs and i remember this one because i asked him who is was about. I have had a few heated discussions since then but he told me what inspired him to write this one and it might surprise some people............but a great song James G Brown

  • The clarity of his voice is stunning, I prefer the original however, singers do like to experiment with their songs and in some cases bring them into the modern era, I love both versions.

  • The creator of a song can sings his own song as he likes!

    Great performance,unusual indeed but beautiful!

    Thanks for the post!

  • Une vrai chanson avec une super orchestration, à l'arrivée vraiment une très belle pop song de 1967 !

  • what can i say but beautiful and kind of sad.

more "polished" than the original and knowing how David would leave us, maybe so much more poignant.

Thank you for posting this Louisnl.

  • Great voice. Marvellous lyrics, and you hear them well; in all other ways can't beat the original.

also immer schön weiter höen und immer an ihn glauben grüße pumababy1994

  • Du hast völlig recht!! Glaubt weiter an David und das, was es komponiert hat. Kennt ihr das Album "The days of David McWilliams"??

    Eure sylo02 antwortet doch mal!!

  • This version is also great. When I hear this song I see myself walking though the raining streets of London, toally lost and forgotten. Teh street where only rats can run..., its the mirror of the song he sings. Pearly Spencer must have been totally lost in this moment, alone, lonely...

The song reflects the inner situation of Pearly precisely! The race is almost run...,

its over, nothing more to loose...!

    Greetings from

    sylo02

  • a legendary performance-the man was a legend-a working class hero...love it played many times at rutland cres

  • i prefer the original too. i'm not fussed on this at all. but his voice is still great!

  • This such an evocative song. I prefer the original studio version but this is interesting.

  • Was this a UK hit? I don't remember it in the US.

  • What a lovely version. Ahhhh, walk the streets of East London.

  • Great post - where and when anyone ?

  • how does his voice sound so fresh

  • He preserved his vocal cords with whisky. Lots and lots of it.

  • I love that song!!

  • me too

  • His voice still sounds so fresh, a different arrangement of a classic song, brilliant!

  • Splendid..It's a long time that I search this song and this man...Je suis tres tres triste qu'il soit décèdé en 2002..Il reste cette chanson for remember

  • I don't whaer it came from but it's another space from what came before - I really liked it after a few listens!

  • What, no megaphone??

  • where the hell is this from?

  • It doesn't really work at this tempo, but it's good anyway.
