Personally I prefer the sixties original although this updated version is not 'bad' necessarily. Regrettable that the EMI Music overlords have blocked it on youtube in the US. But that's the American corporate mentality, huh?
sheer beauty. how can anyone dislike this?? sure it's very different from the classic version you hear on the radio. but it's just and awesome rendition. open your ears people!
@54326541 I very well know this song was released in 1967. But this BBC recording was made in the 80ties. As I'm old enough myself (60 years of age!!) I'm not going to ask my father.
It always was a great song..............i remember playing in a band with davie and during rehearsals when we had a break for a smoke he would sit and write down parts of songs and i remember this one because i asked him who is was about. I have had a few heated discussions since then but he told me what inspired him to write this one and it might surprise some people............but a great song James G Brown
The clarity of his voice is stunning, I prefer the original however, singers do like to experiment with their songs and in some cases bring them into the modern era, I love both versions.
also immer schön weiter höen und immer an ihn glauben grüße pumababy1994
Du hast völlig recht!! Glaubt weiter an David und das, was es komponiert hat. Kennt ihr das Album "The days of David McWilliams"??
This version is also great. When I hear this song I see myself walking though the raining streets of London, toally lost and forgotten. Teh street where only rats can run..., its the mirror of the song he sings. Pearly Spencer must have been totally lost in this moment, alone, lonely...
The song reflects the inner situation of Pearly precisely! The race is almost run...,
Splendid..It's a long time that I search this song and this man...Je suis tres tres triste qu'il soit décèdé en 2002..Il reste cette chanson for remember

Une vrai chanson avec une super orchestration, à l'arrivée vraiment une très belle pop song de 1967 !

what can i say but beautiful and kind of sad.
more "polished" than the original and knowing how David would leave us, maybe so much more poignant.
Thank you for posting this Louisnl.

Great voice. Marvellous lyrics, and you hear them well; in all other ways can't beat the original.

how does his voice sound so fresh

He preserved his vocal cords with whisky. Lots and lots of it.
