@touchofsummer1 It's not fair to compare Selena's version to the original because this remake wasn't meant to be sung the way the original was. The original was in a very high key but this remake was made with a more mainstream R&B sound. Selena's voice fit in perfectly.

That's a very awful thing to say!! Just because her 'Boy Like That' didn't live up to your standards of West Side Story, no one deserves to lose their life in such a terrible way. This was just Selena's interpretation of the song. She clearly must have been a fan of West Side Story for her to even do this song. Sometimes you don't like the way she made the song. You either love it or hate it.

Regardless, Selena was an amazing musician. I personally like her touch to the song.

Unfortunately, I did not know anything about Selena till I heard of her death, cause she was just crossing over musically when her life ended. I started reading about her life and her very sad end and was so touched by her story, music and talent, that although I am not Mexican American, I completely feel the pain of such a great loss. My respects to the family and husband Chris.

Well, as I view video clips of her, what I recognize is she was a huge "star", but not "star-struck". A very rare quality in a celebrity. Selena enjoyed her fans and making them happy with music, as much as her fans enjoyed her music and concerts.  You can tell by the way she smiled and laughed even when she wasn't performing. I would say she invented or re-invented a "new" kind of entertainer.

I remember that when I first heard this song by Selena-it was actually after she was murdered. I was in an all Latino store, and it was playing on their radio. The song was just so lovely, I asked the sales clerk who said it was Selena-and I bought her cd the same day, and when I heard the story of her death, it made me very sad.
