Actually, if you watch the un-aired pilot episode, the yellow ranger isn't actually Chinese, so it might seem as if power rangers were racist, but it was un intentional, they just wanted to make an american version of super sentai, as it was and still is very successful in Japan.

When the Power Rangers were big, to have a kid from every demographic featured as a superhero and role model was unheard of unless you were watching PBS. The Power Rangers were all-inclusive. For its time, it was a very progressive thing for kids to watch.
