  • I'm never quite sure if I'm grateful to her or completely sorry. Both I guess ! But it's always a great moment to listen to her performing (I can't say sing, can I ?) !

  • I saw this and died. So talented! The Queen! Love you, Angie!

  • Rebecca Black's grandmother?

  • This Queen of the Night looks like Cleopatra;

  • ERNA BERGER 1937. In a studio the sound is better than on a stage. I have CD's of Pavarotti that do not do him justice because the sound is not captured on stage very well. The CD's were cheap, so I still listen to them anyway. With Florence, perhaps the recording is in a studio and the best possible recording. I like to give her the benefit of a doubt--although if she sounds awful and still sings with passion, much was fogiven and will always be forgiven by many

  • @CharlotteFairchild Florence Foster-Jenkins was rich and those were all studio recordings. She was filthy rich and could afford the best. You cannot explain away her singing as based on recording quality. Listen to a video which is completely her not spliced with a good performance like here. Read about her. Wiki has an article, there are other very interesting articles about her if you google. People paid money just to laugh at her.

  • Many people who do not appreciate opera believe all opera is as beautiful as this. The singer in "Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart and the invisible Pooka is what people believe opera to be like. The radio doesn't do opera justice, and I knew that because I sing. Maybe Florence had a hearing disability or TMJ or musicians who messed with her timing. This is why I prefer singing without instrumentation. There are people who decry Callas & Pavarotti was also booed before.

  • que idiota................fool

  • :(

  • "It's all Kyle's mom stuff"

  • all i hear is a puppy learning how to bark

  • Menuda gilipollada

  • poor people with ear :D

  • she sounds like shes quacking ^^

  • I wonder about the mic and speakers of the age. I know on Youtube I suck, but in real life, people cry and ask for encores and clap. So making fun of Florence is fun, but realizing you have better equipment and may sound better than you do in the conditions Florence is recorded is not really very accurate.

  • @CharlotteFairchild, haha. It sounds like your friends may be having a go at you.

  • @psychokitty93 No. They are total strangers. I never made below an "A" in music. I went to 10 colleges and universities for undergrad and post grad work, so it isn't a joke that my voice sucks on Youtube, but in life sounds much better.

  • @CharlotteFairchild Since she isn't on pitch and her tempos are off, it's not just the sound. As to the sound quality and recording technology, there are recordings of famous singers of the time e.g. Amelita Galli-Curci, Adelina Patti (way past her prime at the time of the recordings) or Luisa Tetrazzini. I haven't found early recordings of this aria, but you can use Bell Song for comparison, since Florence sings it too. First two on this video are from same age: /watch?v=EQa2EpyKJJE

  • @CharlotteFairchild I just realized that Florence Foster-Jenkins recordings were made around 1940. So for more accurate estimate of how good singers who recorded around the same time sounded like, this is the same aria recorded by Erna Berger in 1937: /watch?v=5aSQ62_fGWo

  • What is the name of the soprano against the blue backdrop, who's also partially singing this aria?

  • I believe this is the voice of Aziza Mustafa Zadeh (the part not being possessed by the spirit) hahahaha. But Ms.Jenkins many thanks for your record, suddenly I want to take vocal lesson! Be blessed there in heaven, ma'am :D

  • yeah !

  • She's the biggest glitch the matrix has ever seen

  • Just goes to show that even though the desire to sing may be in your heart that doesn't magically enable the ability to sing well, like it would if we lived in a Disney movie.

  • Who is the other woman singing this ?

  • even my cat was cranky after listening this...

  • Dear, you are much, much better than she is... Please dont learn from her...

  • sooooo baaaaaaddddd!!!!Mozart will get angry

  • i think parrot singing better than her :)

  • There are quite a few that can sing like that Opera singer, but no one can sing like Florence Foster.

  • it's worth remembering that she was in her seventies when she recorded and that early recordings make even great singers sound like ill witches. it's possible that in her youth she wasn't too bad - just went on a bit too long lol :)

  • @jd7x7jd No love, when it's bad, it is bad. not if, ands, or buts. Its bad. A voice teacher of mine once said, one cannot do a thing badly un less they have learned how to do it first. she learned and this was the result. Maybe here ambition was far greater than her instrument. lol much like Stephan Zuker.

  • @hamb4 sure, understood. i wasn't suggesting she was ever sutherland.

  • dear god what a lack of talent

  • yupp, shes amazingly awful... one of her most famous quotes was "people may say I didn't sing well, but they can't say I didn't sing"

She was told she had a serious lack of singing ability, but she never gave up... good for her, bad for us...

  • 1:11 sounds like a chimp ......

  • She's the single greatest troll in music history.

  • who needs Sumi Jo, Dame Joan sutherland, Diana Damrau or Natalie Dessay ;-)

    There is Florence..............

  • like we really need a professional singer to show how bad it is.

  • Wer ist die Frau auf dem Bild? Sie singt sehr gut.

  • yes, it's a joke. Google her. lighten up :)

  • LESS!

  • Hilarious... I love it. Perhaps my favorite coloratura soprano to sing this aria is Sumi Jo but Florence takes the cake!

  • Thank you Florence. You bring joy and levity to my day.

  • ROFL

  • Is this a joke?!

  • ME TARZAN

    U DEVIL

  • That final note at 03:15 finally got me! It's as bad as chalk screeching across a blackboard.

  • why did they interject the good singer? I loved hearing Jenkins. Apparently, she used to invite all of her long suffering friends.....

  • I love that lady. I think it's totally random and rad that she was crazy famous for being so terrible...and being so *earnest* about it.

  • where are tarzan?... his monkey its crying for him.... please appear

  • Very Terrible I must say :(

  • Salieri would be very happy, if he had watched this video.

  • its like a crazy monkey!

  • @Matiasbiteh hahahahahahaha!! crazy monkey!!

  • Not cuz she was rich - but because she really believed she could sing and bring beauty to the world -before you laugh too much she wasn't a fake as many so called great sopranos before us to-day

who hit most of the notes for their own glory ,as awful as she sounded she was

most sincere to the composer so before

laughing too much give pause -were that present day singers had her honesty

    however misguided .

  • check wikipedia and you'll get it

  • Is it just me or does this sound horrible ??

  • she is not singing dont be lie

  • It's like hearing a Grand Piano being bashed to pieces with a sledghammer.

  • Obviously this is on purpose. Beautiful voice and may be capable to sing the piece perfectly if wanted to :-)) Well, those high F-s are not easy and dangerous for the vocal chords. Anyways, she is very funny with this parody ... :-))

  • @GeorgeOfZala well you do know who Florence Foster Jenkins is right? she is the lady who paid a lot of money to sing in Carnegie Hall because she thought just cuz she was rich she could sing. lol

  • @GeorgeOfZala Sorry -- not on purpose; the lady was dead serious. You can probably look her up very easily to learn this...

  • Obviously this is on purpose ... very funny. Beautiful voice and may be capable to sing the piece perfectly if wanted to :-))

  • great cut !!! CG!! :P thank for posting. I need Jenkins Masterclass!!

  • madam you have raped my ears and i will be pressing charges.

  • Sounds like she is possesd by the devil !

  • Wahhhhhh !!!! What a terrible joke !

Never heard such terrible sound before.

So etwas schreckliches habe ich noch nie gehört !

  • @schwejk71 Wer ist die Frau auf dem Bild? Sie singt sehr gut...

  • At 2:17, she hits the right note for like half a second.

The sheer shock practically gave me a heart attack. xDD

  • Haven't heard a recording of Florence Foster Jenkins in years. Laughed my head off! Sad to think this woman really thought she was a talented singer. I guess anyone with money can record an album. Poor thing!

  • who was the idiot who fucked it up?

  • Hilarious! American Idol, Day 1

  • Thats how women sing after they sleep with me lol

  • OMG!!!!!!!!

  • Go to hell

  • Would do well in the pop market mayhaps

  • Jenkins didn't even make an attempt to hit the staccatos after the triplet run... now thats just sad o_O

  • jajajajajaja....... no puedo.... jajajajajaja... jajajajajaja

  • This was taken from wiki and I found it to be rather amusing after listening to only half of a very dreadful performance.

"The aria was also a favorite of the famously incompetent singer Florence Foster Jenkins."

  • Mostly what it was with florence was that she thought she was good so because her husband was wealthy she kept holding recitals. They had a production about her where i live. I went, but i left with my ears bleeding lmao

  • Ewwey!!!

  • Her voice itself is nice but she badly needs training. She isn't tone deaf but her coluratura is sung with a closed throat and without diaphragmatic support - it causes all sorts of problems for her. Her voice itself is very good and she can produce good tone and good phrasing - listen to 2.30-2.45. Very nice!

  • @MarkJohnMaguire that bit's not her, it's interspersed with something, i don't get this vid. florence's voice was definitely terrible.

  • @Thebestcat1982 Hm - interesting what you say. It is rather strange how she sings that so well and then wholly ineptly sings the step ups just afterwards at 2.48 - 2.52. If this was recorded today we would have no hesitation in suggesting it had been spliced in - but why? The rest is so inept. I notice the competent handling of the run through the passagio at 2.42. Is it possible she just got lucky?

  • @Thebestcat1982 you can find the actual full florence version by searching 'Florence Foster Jenkins - Queen of the Night by Mozart' posted by hsienhsien

the person that made the vid above has mixed it with something else, presumably to highlight how crap florence was.

  • @Thebestcat1982 Yes, you're right - there are at least 2 versions spliced together here.

  • @MarkJohnMaguire You're being rather kind to her, I think. It may just be that she's incapable of "gola aperta" (open throat) - some people are, you know. Perhaps she had no instinct - just stinked?

  • FFJ had lot of money, from her husband. So she decide to rent the Carnegie Hall. She give concert every year. The first was just horrible but so horrible that it becomes funny. And during several year she had success as a woman who try to sing, with Moore playing the piano.....

  • Who allowed that woman to record? who ever it was needs to be dug up killed and then replanted! She is the most tone deaf person ive ever heard. and yes I agree with you assores69.

  • Florence Foster Jenkins (July 19, 1868 November 26, 1944) was an American soprano who became famous for her complete lack of rhythm, pitch, tone, and overall singing ability. Research a bit before you comment people!!

  • Florence Foster Jenkins was known for and actually famous for the fact that she couldn't sing. The worst case of American Idol "I know I can sing" syndrome...In fact she had "I know I can sing" syndrome before anyone.

  • 00:47 HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA xD

  • wtf.. was that, a joke i hope?

  • Who is the real brunette soprano here?

  • beautiful, brava......I wish I could sing like this. and probable I can.

    .lol

  • Seriously?

Unbelievably horrible. I've never heard a worse attempt to Queen of the Night.

  • @MetalWoWGirl - If you'd like to hear something worse, I could offer to try to sing it for you :D

  • I think I just died for listening to this. It is too complacated for her to understand, they have have to use auto tune to help her voice but it still sounds terrible, most of the parts she barely is not singing, they go in extra slow motion and she still can't keep up, and finally, if she really was singing, it woulod still sound terrible.

  • @MrResponder The video's a joke. They spliced someone (not sure who) actually singing it well with Florence Foster Jenkins's horrible rendition, and a moderately attractive woman lip-syncing to them both.

  • Honestly, it sounds like someone just had their balls whacked with a spiky sledgehammer.

Although the dark haired woman is quite good.

  • ha! That is hilarious! I nearly wet myself laughing

    MAJOR LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Murder on the High Seas (C's)"

  • Ha!

  • A dog singing......?

  • wth was that? lmao

  • Hilarious and clever video. Those high "F"s are beauties.

  • Hilarious! Those high "F"s are beauties.

  • not terible

  • ow! I've given myself a stitch laughing...... She put's people in EXTREME PAIN! LOL!!! I love her though!

  • THE GREATEST SPIRIT OF HOLY SHIT !!

  • XDDD

  • LOOLOLOLOLOLOL I almost wet myself XDDDDD

  • that was cute

  • jjajajaja

  • wtf?

  • ahahahahahaha!!! what the fuck?!?!

  • i wet myself laughing so much!

  • is it a joke?

  • Who was the other queen of the night?

  • ....? I really dont know what's going on in this vid...um...ok...

  • Quoting Wikipedia: Florence Foster Jenkins (July 19, 1868 November 26, 1944) was an American soprano who became famous for her complete lack of rhythm, pitch, tone, and overall singing ability.

  • LOL she sounds like a wimpering dog at 0:44 and 2:21

  • I first heard about Florence (and first heard Florence herself) on NPR's radio show "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me!" and I very nearly drive off the road because I was WEEPING with laughter. This is very nicely done. Very funny.

  • Brilliantly done!! Thanks!

  • Qué memez...

  • I don´t understand

  • Somehow I am missing something here!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @motzartiana quoting wikipedia: Florence Foster Jenkins (July 19, 1868 November 26, 1944) was an American soprano who became famous for her complete lack of rhythm, pitch, tone, and overall singing ability.

  • Mozart turns around in his grave. It's terrible!

  • To be honest, this is probably one of the worst performances of this aria ever. We all make fun of FFJ, but it is the truth. I have heard at least two (Maybe more, if I could remember) young boys sing this better!

  • Cuantas bobadas, no es la Foster Jenkings quien altera su voz, aunque sí sus expresiones para adaptarlas a una manipulación divertida en laboratorio de sonido.

  • hahaha., thats awesome! lol, good stuff 5/5

  • I have tears streaming down my face and I'm still laughing! I used to sing this, but as my voice has become "possessed" with age, I would never let anyone record me sounding like THAT! LOL! Thanks for the laugh...hilarious!

  • Bravisimo. Hahhahaha

  • Hahahahahahaha!

    Hilarious!

    Very entertaining.

    Thx 4 posting.

  • sounds like a dog in pain....

  • con eso no se juega....

    te vez muyyyy mal

  • ok, and who is the one at the blue screen?

  • kallate perra!

  • This video should be declared ILLEGAL HAHAHA

  • please explain, i don't understand.

who is the woman in front of the blue wall and who the bad singing one?

  • the bad singing one is florence foster jenkins...

  • es mi impresion o canta un poco... MAL?

  • jaja creo que no es tu impresion son tonos altisimos pero terribles

  • was issn das ? sieht nach fake aus

  • This video is super mean...but as well as funny! what a nice comparison between a legendary opera singer and a stupid impersonator. hahaha

  • After learning about Florence Foster Jenkins and seeing a few seasons of American Idol auditions, I am convinced that there is a very specific breed of delusion that many people harbor about their musical talents. Jenkins was the William Hung of her time.

  • TOtlach xD wie die singt...

  • She packed a concert hall BECAUSE she was bad. That was why she was famous!

  • Read the stage play 'Glorious' perhaps then you will understand the tragedy!

  • i'd let her rest if she wasn't so arrogant when she was alive and think she was awesome at something she clearly sucked at

  • Mr Tamzzin....excuse me, but nobody FORCED her to make records or sing in public, and SHE was aware she was bad!

Its just a psycho who wanted to be on stage NO MATTER WHY

This is a like BART SIMPSON on his 40s

Just want attention, and dont care the consequences or the media to get it.

The worst was people saw her as COMEDY, she though she was seen as an artist!!

And if you go with a gun and kidnap 100.000 people you will fill a stadium, doesnt mean you have the merit of Pavarotti

  • oh dios pobre mujer no llega a las notas, le cuesta un kilo y mas, XD... NO LE SALE EL hahaha ahahaha hahaha ahahahahahahah.. bueno vosotros entendeis... XD

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA geniaaaaal =)

  • this is very sad... i think that she's making funny of mozart.... really bad and mean...i can't believe that stupid peole as she can be famous.....

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

OMG... this reminds of the "Tarja vs Anette" videos... (if there's any Nightwish fan around here, you'll understand what I'm talking about...) XD

  • hah..I was just watching those.

  • muahaha, der war gut :D

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS IS OLZON

  • rotfl....yeahhhh...

  • the "two singers" are the same, i think.

  • No, they're two different singers. The good singer is Erika Miklosa, I think. The bad singer is Florence Foster Jenkins.

  • she is only singing playback = lips synchronising according the recordings of 2 singers of which one of FFJ.

  • Who's the first singer?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahaha i can't beleive this hahahahaha, and i am not even a singer..

  • how did she get popular enough for people to know her? she's hooorrriibbblllee

  • yes she sings horrible

and that's why she is famous!

  • Hi this is Mozart. I can tell you this is really amazing (my spin)

  • Comment removed

  • this woman gives my arse earache but you have to admit shes got gutts to stand up and do this

  • God, this most have been incredibly hard for the pianist to even keep up with... not mentioning the urge to laugh out loud while performing.

  • sounds like a cat being smashed against a wall

  • That was actually F. F. Jenkins singing. Look her up. She was an infamously awful singer. SO bad.
