@avatarprimus Thanx for that, I did a bit of research on this carol last night. Apparently, in 1853 an Englishman named John Mason Neale wrote the lyrics and used to music from a 13th century song about spring. There is a great upload of "Tempus Adest Floridum" posted on YouTube by "prosperous101" if you are interested.

@j077yr0g3r hi, greetings from México, this song is from disc called ¨let it snow¨ from a collection of 24 Christmas discs recorded by the Longines Symphonette Society conducted by Michael Piastro, beautiful original recordings from the radio show ¨the Longines hour-long sunday evening¨ from the early 20th century, the collection was launched in cd in 1997, perhaps you can buy it online in amazon, i have 2 discs i bought in a Walmart store here in my city yeras ago, thanks and Merry Christmas
@avatarprimus I agree with you a very beautiful christmas carol, and this is the best version I have ever heard, specially because this is my Father's name Wenceslao I love this carol, receive best wishes and warm hugs from Colombia, merry Christmas!
We celebrate a king for his mercy and charity, not for his glory! And that is why we call him a "Good" king. Mercy to the weak, and charity to the poor!
It's to bad It can't be Christmas everyday. Winter's my personal favorite holiday. Wish things that happened In TV would happen, but that's not the world we live in. Anyway Great Video.
Don't take this badly because I mean know offence, but Bohemia is primarily Catholic, Britain Protestant more specifically the head of the church of England is the Monarchy, as such a song about a benevolent King is going to be well liked by the ruling elite when the song was written, conversely in the Bohemia the Papacy would likely suppress such songs ( I mean at the time, just as England would have suppressed a song about the kindness of the Clergy. that's my theory anyway lol
Surely one of the best carols there are! A wonderful melody mixed with a very important message; the lyrics are quite poetic. Thanks for posting this, happy Christmas!
janewave99, hi, sometimes people are not interested in history even in their own countries, happens in all the world, and therefore they miss some interesting aspects of their culture and traditions and the culture and traditions of other countries as well, as it happens with this beautiful carol to Saint Vaclav made by an Anglican man devoted to High Church traditions passed to them from the Catholic Church. Thanks for your comment , God bless you and i wish you a very Merry Christmas!!!
Thank you so very much for the detailed account of the good King! This carol is my favorite of all Christmas songs. And this version is amongst the best I've found on youtube-it has the right beat and tempo. ♫
Thank you for this excellent version of one of my favorite carols, AND for not skipping any verses, which unfortunately often happens. I love this time of year, can't get enough of the Christmas season.
TubsmcLard, is because is a song about a Miracle in winter time, a Miracle of God through Saint Wenceslas the good duke of Bohemia that was made king after his death, somehow is about the spirit of Christmas, Christian Charity and Christian Love. thanks for asking and God bless you.
THANK YOU!!!! I've been looking for this version for YEARS. I used to have it on tape when I was a child. It's been 30+ years since I've heard this version. This is so great. I first heard this song in 1976. This brings back so many memories.
