This doesn't sound like the original 45. It's too fast. Sounds to me like it's either a remake or a slightly speeded up version of the original.

Not odd at all, and not Doo-Wop. Song is a string band tune inspired by the Mummers string bands marching up Broad St in Philly on New Years Day, hence the name Quaker City Boys. Fairly big hit on Dick Clark's Bandstand back in 57 or 58.
