I've tasted Canadian rye's that had more flavour, front & back end (Forty Creek)
Four Roses, good for some bourbon-ish flavours in mixers, but lot's of better choices in the price range.
Making the mistake of buying this bourbon on a whim has given me a new appreciation for the 80 proof Wild Turkey, it is a much better tasting whiskey for people that actually want to taste their whisky.
@cassius969 Yep I had some significant sound issues until I got some technical things worked out. Hopefully the later reviews are loud enough for you to hear them.
I dunno...I tried this because it was cheap, I thought it was unremarkable. The body was way too light for me and flavor not complex at all. I do agree that it would probably make an excellent mixer without having to resort to an aweful bourbon to complete the task. For the price range, a comparable value but a much better bourbon would be Elijah Craig, it's a 12 year old and 94 proof...the downside is that, where I live at least, it only comes in a 1.75L bottle.
@insidethefall78 I concur that this is a lighter style bourbon. That's due largely to Four Roses "house style". What you get is a lovely fruitiness, some subtle spice, and certainly those floral notes. It's not a rich and overly sweet bourbon. It's a solid "neat" pour in hotter months and a great, versatile mixer. Elijah Craig 12, which I've also reviewed, is a fantastic product as you mentioned. That's nuts that it only comes in the 1.75. Wow!
I`m from Louisville and now live in Japan. Never seen this at home. Just bought a bottle of the yellow label (export label here) for about 11 USD at a discount store. I am impressed. It is extremely smooth and easy to drink. The flavor isn`t so complex, kind of standard, but nice just the same. It certainly doesn`t "feel" light or cheap in any way; however, it doesn`t linger long at all on the palate. Still, very nice and a bourbon I`ll keep buying. Can`t wait to try the Black or Premium...
Good job on the reviews. This whiskey is my favorite one at this price point. Four Roses makes two bourbons only available in Japan, the Black and Super Premium. Have you ever had a chance to try either of them?
Do yourself a favour and just buy Wild Turkey.

Excellent price indeed. I'm a big fan of the Four Roses. I have not been able to get my hands on those from Japan. Would love to though!
