Iam new to Serato, what did you do on the mixer to get it to go from the long tone to the sound of the song. What did you switch it to? Was it phone to line?
Thank you so much, hehehe I was just starring at the program for ages wondering why it wasn't working like virtual Dj, but once you said that without the serato box thingy it's useless I understood, thanks for the help :)
@ska8ingbeaner not really, the only thing that matters is when you are using cdjs. u need cdjs that have vinyl or scratch mode on them for them to work
damn i love serato.......check out the NEW traktor controller, it is FANTASTIC as well....
i love serato so much because it includes VINYL and you use your turntables .....we can't phase turntables out ...its just wrong.....that will be a sad day when turntables arent an integral part of the deejay's setup...
Amazing, you will never need those vinyl records again, only a couple of them that hasn't music on it, just a code, you'll be using the music that u have in your laptop, and all those tracks out there that are only in vinyl like old school electronic music, underground labels releases, or any kind of only vinyl music would be never played again, beautiful!
@EnnisEduardo Your sarcasm is all over the place with those comments, don't know if anyone else caught that. You could however take the time to rip all that great vinyl to your laptop or external hard drive and still play it.
@DphL0 Only if you want to Search your songs right from the mixer and Rane made a mixer for that Rane TT-57SL. The Pioneer DJM 800 Mixer has cool sounds beat effects to use when your doing live mixing like Robot,Trans,FlangerPhaser etc check them out here on youtube. I will say only Rane TT-57SL& Pioneer DJM 800 mixer works best on the Serato Scratch Software. Many djs use both of those mixers.
but any mixer will work but its the mixer you want to use...
@StormEagle21 ANY MIXER OR TURNTABLES/CD PLAYERS WILL WORK BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU LIKE ON THE MIXER TO DO. BUT MIXERS DO HAVE REP SUCH AS DJM-800 PIONEER, RANE TT-57SL DJ MIXER WITH SCRATCH LIVE ITS NEW AND I THINK IT CAME OUT SOMETIME IN 2010 IF IM NOT MISTAKING BUT IT ALLOWS YOU TO SEARCH YOUR SONGS RIGHT FROM THE MIXER. ON THE PIONEER DJM 800 IT HAS SOME COOL FEATURES YOU CAN USE WHEN YOU MIX A SONG LIKE FLANGER,PHASER,TRANS. check videos on youtube to see what you like.
i have a question (please inbox me with replies) i have baught serato (shipping is takiing 2 weeks) i have just installed scratch live 2.1.1 and it only has one deck.. will this change when i connect the serato box up to the laptop.. thanks sean
it seems like ssl was made for hip hop dj's who want to scratch something they can't find or get on vinyl. Everything this guy is doing on his decks could easily be done on just a pc. Seems pointless to have the turntables. Scratching and beat juggling might be cool using serato but beatmatching shitty techno is useless.
@grossjon LAPTOPS HAVE REP ON DJ USE. APPLE is not really made for DJS but your looking to spend over $2,200 on the apple laptop and which later will shut off on you in the middle when your djing at parties. I know that cuz I have seen my friends that are dj & they say apple makes a SORRY ASS LAPTOP FOR DJS.. But here again it depends on what laptop works best 4u.
HP/Delll works Better also dont forget to get a External Hard Drive to store all your music
@jrDJREMIX what? well i've got a macbook pro and so do about a dozen other DJs i personally know and we're all using serato and *none* of us have any problems whatsoever with our laptops shutting down mid-set.
i use ableton suite 8 and serato connected together with the bridge, a pair of technics into a allen&heath xone 92 and an akai apc40 and the whole lot runs together smooth as silk. no shutdowns, even on a 4 hour set. apple makes a SORRY ASS LAPTOP FOR DJS? uh... i don't think so.
@2fours09 To better explain it. YOU DONT NEED TO GET A CERTAIN MIXER but thats if you want to do cool features like on Pioneer DJM 800 mixer which allows you to use sound effects like Filter, flanger, phaser etc. Its best when you are doing live mixing.
If you rewatch the video again at 3:25 hes not using the Serato Scratch Record cds. at 3:40-4:19 he puts the Serato cds. Mode on the mixer will allow u 2 use the software. line/phone will allow u 2 use other cd records..
so: Scratch Live + 2 Analog Turntables = 2 Digital turntables?
i dont want opinions that digital is shit. i have no records. but dont want to buy digital turntables. this sounds too good to be true. lol soz im a noob :)
@djspinc107 Yes these systems will work with a rack mount CD player. WIred my Traktor Sratch Pro with Audio 4 DJ to my Stanton c.503 rack player and it worked just fine.
Virtual dj & torq both are ok for the bedroom or an indroduction to using your laptop for djing.
I used them both especially Torq for nearly 2 years, but i have just b4 christmas moved onto serato mainly for video SL and i have to say the sound quality of the SL3 is way better on a big system. The crates, midi capability with my pioneer, and aux in/out for recording is second to none, in my view with a mac pro rane serato is the best system going i love it.
question, im kinda new to djing, but iv'e started to practice at home. why not just use the sync button? he manually did it, but his were not completely sync'd were they?
because if you use the sync button, one day u might not have one and you won't have any skills of beatmatching, and it just shows that you use shortcuts, making you alot less of a dj
So Im getting rid of my MPC to get SSL SL3, I make beats in Reason 4, can I make them work together to have badass sampling in my reason beats??? someone help me out.
After serato scratch live released the 1.9 version they added a sampler feature. So what you do it you create your beats in reason 4 export it as audio, wich will create an .aif file i think. Then you put this in your sampler and you can play your beats and two other songs at the same time. Or if you just want to play the beat with one other song you can just load it up in your deck and use the vinyl/cd to play it.
@Devestato72 : I would say DJ's across the world use serato. You would probably have to contact serato and ask for a comprehensive list of every place they export to... Difficult essay topic >.>
Thank for hitting me back. I took care of it, i figured everyone in world was using it, Instructor wanted the number, so i just said everyone. tks. I thought he may check into it and pull my card, but he didn't. tks
im trying to DJ, but im just trying to research and stuff before i buy anything
i eventually want to learn how to Beat Juggle but I dont think Vinyls will be easily accessible for me. So will two turntables and serato do the trick? or should i just get CDj's for now since i have no experience.
Where's a good place to get vinyl's? And do they make vinyl's for recent stuff?
when you buy the scratch live package it comes with two timecoded vinls the rane sound card two timecoded cds some rcas and some installation software. and just about any turntable will work with about any two channel dj mixer. the vinyls are universal. they work with the files on your computer you only need the two vinyls for all your tracks
you can't connect any software directly to your vinyl turntable so stop saying it like that. you're gonna need some sort of interface like the SL1 that has an input for turntables and output for your mixer. it also needs a usb output too to connect to your computer.
Whats up? Is it possible to have Virtual Dj and Serato Scratch programs on your computer and be able to run them not at the same time but diffrents times like Virtual Dj on a friday night and Serato Scratch on a saturday night with both database files on the harddrive from each of the programs without creating problems??
yess off course, (as far as i know) but i find serato to be FAR FAR FAR more reliable than virtual dj: sometimes when i arrive at a gig and want to power up VDJ it wón't even start and if i use the search track function it won't play the track and shut down the program, thats why i switch to serato with my cdj 400's
so..basically you can take any song in the world and just program it onto (blank with a long high pitched tone) one of the turntables and it becomes the song and you can then manipulate it like a real record? damn! totally eliminates the need for crates and crates of vinyl!..if im understanding it correctly
Serato is mainly used to store mp3/wav and to manipulate those songs on vinyl. Traktor is basically a PC DJ. Traktor and Virtual DJ are basically alike. They do the manipulation for you. With Traktor, you be a PC DJ with the "look" of having vinyl dj.
Why does this suck? You save a lot more money instead of buying records and it's more economical. This is innovation at it's best. You still spin vinyl, but you aren't paying a ridiculous amount of money for one good song on a record. Also, carrying loads of records was starting to wear me down.
What mixer do you have? Is the crossfader pretty smooth? What 3 channel or 4 channel mixer would your recommend for under $400 for scratching and for having some mixing sound effects.
im interested to know hows the signal level from the computer compared to vinyl?
im currently using virtual dj aswell as vinyl turntables and when i mix a vinyl over a computer track the vinyl signal is such better quality that its impossible to mix
Hi Brian, I'm thinking about buying serato live, but one thing that I need to know is, with normal vinyl you can see where the breaks are coming from looking at the grooves, and on high end CD Decks, ie CDJ 1000's you have a graphical representation of the track, so you know the structure. Is there anything in Serato that enables you to see this? Any help would be appreciated.
Naw man serato only lets u see like 2 secs in advance. Torq & Tracktor Scratch let u see the whole song. But Torq lets you hook up midi controlers and drum padfs like trigger finger and a MPD 24. ;)
I see what u did theeere! 0:20

so..basically you can take any song in the world and just program it onto (blank with a long high pitched tone) one of the turntables and it becomes the song and you can then manipulate it like a real record? damn! totally eliminates the need for crates and crates of vinyl!..if im understanding it correctly

SERATO IS OVERRATED.
Serato? Yea.. traktor can beat that stuff any day. Their timecode is tighter then serato and their soundcard is better then serato..
Yup, I'm gunna talk about virtual DJ. Virtual Dj was mixing video and had a sampler LONG BEFORE SERATO. Serato is just behind on alot of shit.
Traktor FTW.
MakaShino 2 years ago
Serato is mainly used to store mp3/wav and to manipulate those songs on vinyl. Traktor is basically a PC DJ. Traktor and Virtual DJ are basically alike. They do the manipulation for you. With Traktor, you be a PC DJ with the "look" of having vinyl dj.

computer djing sucks ass

better than buying records and cds and you can do more normal djingg suck ass
djkyle9 2 years ago
Why does this suck? You save a lot more money instead of buying records and it's more economical. This is innovation at it's best. You still spin vinyl, but you aren't paying a ridiculous amount of money for one good song on a record. Also, carrying loads of records was starting to wear me down.
Djlai78 2 years ago
Can you tell me why? Does it really matter where the music lives? On a hard drive, on a cd or on a vinyl?
opmdevil 2 years ago
how do you use loops and cues and stuff on vinyl?
92benno92 2 years ago
on the original vinyl you use markers, a small white stickers ON the record..
dont think that there is a loop -.-'..
figures

What mixer do you have? Is the crossfader pretty smooth? What 3 channel or 4 channel mixer would your recommend for under $400 for scratching and for having some mixing sound effects.

im currently using virtual dj aswell as vinyl turntables and when i mix a vinyl over a computer track the vinyl signal is such better quality that its impossible to mix

can u compare this and virtual dj? if so which one is the better one?
bxtchimcurtis 3 years ago
Hi Brian, I'm thinking about buying serato live, but one thing that I need to know is, with normal vinyl you can see where the breaks are coming from looking at the grooves, and on high end CD Decks, ie CDJ 1000's you have a graphical representation of the track, so you know the structure. Is there anything in Serato that enables you to see this? Any help would be appreciated.
mannyAk1981 3 years ago
Naw man serato only lets u see like 2 secs in advance. Torq & Tracktor Scratch let u see the whole song. But Torq lets you hook up midi controlers and drum padfs like trigger finger and a MPD 24. ;)
