I bought mine a month ago and I love it. Mine is a blue Cooper with a white top. not the S model. It's a great car with lots of personality. Going to get the white stripes for Father's day! The mile is awesome! If you are thinking about getting one there are 2 options not to be left off:
The sunroof (best in any car I've ever had)
Harmon Kardon audio upgrade. (Best stock stereo I've ever had and better than most aftermarket ones too)
This car has no style at all. I don't like the Mini Cooper ever since a drunk, speeding driver from England almost hit me head on with one of these ugly vehicles and totaled my Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser SL. The Mini driver lost control of his vehicle, complained about a steering problem, but luckily was unhurt after he ran down an embankment and turned over. I want my Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser SL back. If you want style, get a Ford F-150.
@ibreuer Style and driving ability are two completely different entities. Style refers to something which is visually appealing and culturally appropriate. Driving ability refers to a human being's competence behind the wheel, defined by how well they can control the car in unusual, dangerous or racing scenarios.
This car is extremely stylish, as evidence by its overwhelming success in the US. That moron who hit your Cutlass does nothing to change Mini's image; he's just an incompetent fool.
Minis are gorgeous...but are they safe to drive on highways? I am worried that a big truck or semi won't be able to see it because it is so little. Does anyone have a MINI with rear fog lights in the US? Are they good?
I love driving my 2007 cooper S with the 6 speed transmission. Always puts a smile on your face when your zipping through traffic and running down the highway. Its a blast to drive!
I love the Mini Coopers. Never realized how fun it was to drive. Been driving for over 20 years now and wow what a difference. Can't really say anything about previous comments of problems, but every car company gets lemons.
My roomate has one of these and has had nothing but problems with it. Only 2 years old and already had 3 tranmissions, after the 1st transmition were electrical problems, windows opening and closing randomly, black trim falling off, all of the hinges it have rusted it it too, dealer just says it's all normal lol.
i didnt like the review, very primitive .... and he commented only the good things , no info about the engines or anything detaled on that matter.....
Nearly all German make cars have the Reverse right next to the First gear. My Jetta has the same gear set up. All you need to do is push down, then up to Reverse gear.
Has anybody ever mix the reverse gear with first gear. The car is great but im not to happy with the fact that reverse is right next to first gear, Im afraid if i launch in reverse rather than launching first gear. I have to know if anybody has had any problems with that???
I'm pretty sure there's some extra thing you have to do to go in reverse..like pushing down on the gear lever then going to reverse. If not then I'm with you :)
Well in the beginning I did mix up but only a couple of times. In fact since the reverse is placed besides the first you can only mess up while waiting at a signal. So instead of first you put it into reverse then you realize it and put it back to first. May be a couple of honks as well that's all. Once you are used to the gears, it wont be a problem anymore.
haha, its like learning how to drive a manual all over again. I remember those honks when I first started. @sripavanv thanks for sharing this information. I was thinking of buying a BMW or an AUDI and i know both manufactures put reverse next to first. Iv"e always driven manual's with the reverse being all the way on the other side. Again thanks for the Info.
Actually mixing the sport suspension with 17-inch tires makes it impossible to change out wheels on the road meaning you'll have to get it towed to the dealership's garage if you ever get a flat tire. Something to consider if you're going for the sport package.
Just curious, but why is this? I is it because the tire can't come off the car or is the spare too small to sit in place of the 17" wheel? I just can't imagine why you would have to take this car to the dealer in order to simply replace a flat tire.
i love mini

"Very distinctive looks". Yeah, maybe in America; over here in the UK every other car on the road is a Mini! :p
Not a bad thing, mind - they are great cars. I almost bought one myself (ended up with an Alfa Romeo as I preferred Italian styling ;) )
