I have an 2009 Subaru wrx and my motor just did this sat night, my dealer says it's a wrist pin that has let go! it has 44000 kms on it not sure why it let go but let's hope the new motor that's being put it in now lasts a bit longer.
@cj7135rocks Evidently that's precisely what he / they do. All joking aside, as I've stated before, it was broken in correctly and failed regardless. This is probably my 3rd performance vehicle and first one to ever have problems like this.
yes, sounds like the result of an improper break-in. I know it's tempting to do a drift out of the car lot, but best bet is to old-lady it until she's broken in. Then you can BRAAAAAP all you want
There was a definate bad batch in the early 08's and then again in the 09's. I would not recommend modding until you are over 15,000 miles just to be sure your's isn't effected.
This is not a common problem with this car but there are several handfuls of documented failures. My 09 is a 07/08 build and VIN is right in the range of the failures. I've got 9500 on mine and it runs fine. The problem isn't the driver. Best we can tell is they got a bad batch of bearings from a supplier. Maybe there was a break down in quality control. It does appear that 07/08 and 08/08 build dates are the ones with issues. Currently 38 are documented on NASIOC.
Damn wtf? I have like over 2k miles on my car... its a sedan and shit doesnt even sound like that... hmmm maybe you've been driving the shit out of it?? idk.. damn weird shit, but thanks for letting me know.
InATrance4Life said "1300k miles". He did not say "1300 km"!! He said miles, asshole.
@ cj7135rocks
You're an asshole too. If you don't understand units, then I can only assume you barely earned a HS degree. "1300k miles" only means one thing dipshit!
So I leave with saying that you are both idiots because you saw the two letters "k" and "m" together, when they did NOT EXIST in InATrance4Life's comment. You two are official degree-less morons.
@safricancracker No need for namecalling - I can read just as well as you can; it's called interpretation. It should be obvious that he does not have 1.3 million miles on on a MY09 car; however typos do happen. So, "1300k miles" was probably meant to be 1.3k miles - 1300 miles, or 1300 kilometers.
@bigbcraig I was called an idiot, hence you go after me. What a dipshit. Plus, you don't know the definition of a "typo". Go look it up, Wikipedia has a great article with references. That wasn't a typo. Wow, "it's called interpretation"? Wow, is that how you got through HS interpreting stuff that just wasn't there?
@safricancracker You obviously pointed out the misinterpretation to sound smart.. you don't think we learned unit measurement in highschool? I bet this guy has a nicer car than you, there's something you can measure up
If you knew units from High School (you should have said college too...) then you would know what "x k miles" means, but you do not. It's as simple as that. I'm sorry for your lack in mathematical understanding.
Guessing you're from South Africa. I'm surprised you even have schools of any kind there. I can see why you cherish your education of unit measurement so much, you probably had to trade your children for it.
Good job there buddy, you just criticized your own precious US education system in South Carolina and North Carolina, the two states in which I went to High School and University. You sound like the top echelon of our society...
And i'm willing to bet that if you had a university education that you would have better things to do with your time than point out pointless oversights in people's comments.. Ones which everybody but you understood... You're not very good at corroborating your false claims.
Yes, in some cases you're completely right. In other cases there's a handful of motors that have a defect right from the get-go. This can be substantiated by all of the reported failures on the NASIOC forums due to the same root cause.

Well thats what the warranty is for. I havn't had a problem with my 09 WRX SEDAN. It has 1300k miles right now. IDK maybe I got a good engine.

"1300k" miles = 1,300,000 miles. How is that even possible, let alone on a 2009 car? WTF dude? P.S. "k" stands for "kilo" which means a "thousand".
safricancracker 2 years ago
1300 km. as in kilometers. ~800mi.
