My and my friends have fun playing on them, but they are still awful games. We 100% this game on its release - not much else on Xbox out of interest, and we wanted to be fair. 8.4? The story is crap the gameplay is crap, they ruined the game. They striped all what we loved about FPS games on the n64. You cant play 4 player offline against bots anymore, there is no customization to the multiplayer in the same way that it was on the N64. Why take away something that was golden? I´d rather take worse graphics and add all those multiplayer feature that made perfect dark so damn good then have to play this shitty game.
In Perfect Dark Zero Joanna Dark looks like a tart with a hairstyle that is a beacon for a headshot. I much preferred the female James Bond from the first game.

This game did not compare tot he original in any way. Zero gets a zero on my scoreboard. It sucked. And I can't stand all this Moby BS and his "revolutionary soundtrack", the mixes sucked, the audio sucked in general.

PD for the n64 pushed the system to its graphical limit, introduced the first coop multiplayer, added an incredible bot system and perfected the goldeneye multiplayer format. No other game in the late 90's came close to PD
PDZ, on the other hand, did nothing that seperated it from every other generic shooter, and actually regresses in certain areas (the awful enemy AI)

PDZ is sitting at an 81 on metacritic... which doesn't equal a disappointment for it's time. 81 is a good score. Gamespot gave PDZ a 9.0. Guess what it gave the completely remastered version of Perfect Dark 64... a 7.5. Most gaming sites of today weren't around when Perfect Dark released.
And all of this is moot... since I wasn't comparing the two. It's all opinions.

Why did Microsoft want Rare to work on other things? They wanted Rare to develop family friendly games so that the 360 could compete with the wildly successful Wii. After Viva Pinata they put them solely on Kinect games... and it paid off. The Kinect device is the fastest selling consumer electronic device in history. That beats Perfect Dark by a lot.

Well, in a sense, the original looks more realistic, but it has less graphic power so doesn't look as good as PDZ. Where as PDZ has more graphic power, but looks really cartoony. The new release of PD64 on Xbox arcade has enhanced visuals to a degree which is good.
Some of the music appealed..as a rock fan, but almost all of it didn't suit the game at all, unlike PD64s which had a military/sci-fi theme throughout.
PDZ was totally bare bones rubbish compared to the original. No unlockables, music isn't that great compared to the originals, Joanna's British accent removed, bad engine. Seriously..enemies that die and bounce around like ping pong balls? Single player mode...boring compared to the original.
this game sucked so much ass. I got it at launched and i was severely disappointed. Quake IV was much better than this pile and Quake IV wasn't that good. Multi player sucked, level design sucks, controls suck, AI sux, VO sux, it's just a crappy game.
pdz has exellent graphics, but the guns were too fucking shiny plus some non metallic surfaces were shiny the bricks and walls hell even the datadyne soldiers fatigues were shiny what was rare thinking?
You can tell Rare took inspiration from Timesplitters with that sounds effects, character models and movement of them. Seeing as some of their staff worked on Timesplitters. But IMO nothing beats Timesplitters. It's simply the best ever. Will give the demo a try later though, it looks fun. Especially with Multiplayer and co-op.

alright it was amazing, but the level design was what i was refering to. seriously just boring. pelagic II, that dumb cetan ship underwater, chicago. just ass. even the multiplayer maps never caught my attention even as a kid. but the area 51 base was great, though overused (4 missions, seriously), just like trinity platform in PDZ.

Thats not true....saintsrow is dead online. COD games have decent numbers. no one plays arcade games online and I found that most third party games have low numbers, look at Unreal Tournament 3

The multiplayer compared to the original Perfect Dark is also bad. Via emulator it is possible to play Perfect Dark online but shooting it up with 3 of your friends can be more fun then with random people online. I definitly don't agree with an 8.4
Doesn't look a touch on it's predecessor in terms of gameplay. They've traded that in for real physics and graphics. At the end of the day, people want something that's fun. Being realistic is a bonus, but this looks more like a game where you stalk around in the dark rather than it's predecessor where you run around on a rampage like a headless chicken.
Even at the time that this game came out, I still thought the graphics weren't good. Everything looks like plastic, even the people's skin. And it just didn't seem like a big jump from one gen to another. I thought COD 2 looked much better.
And as for graphics, it was really disappointing. The biggest game for xbox at the time was Halo 2, you would expect this game to have better gameplay to force people to make the move from last gen to current gen, but Halo 2 was still better.
halo2 was my fav out of the whole series. the moment you jumped onto the scarab kamikaze style. i knew i would be playing it all night. sigh...halo2 was awsome.

Agreed. And that's a damn hard accomplishment... I can play PD Zero but it gets really old really fast for me. I hate how the sims just run run and keep running away unlike the original where they would stand up and give you a good fight. And yeah the graphics are horrible, just polished up at the end to make you think they're good at first... :P The weapons in this game SUCK compared to the original (my opinion) God this game was a let down

Nostaligia doesnt mean the game needs to hold up today. It only has to be superior to its competition
PD for the n64 pushed the system to its graphical limit, introduced the first coop multiplayer, added an incredible bot system and perfected the goldeneye multiplayer format. No other game in the late 90's came close to PD
PDZ, on the other hand, did nothing that seperated it from every other generic shooter, and actually regresses in certain areas (the awful enemy AI)

PDZ is sitting at an 81 on metacritic... which doesn't equal a disappointment for it's time. 81 is a good score. Gamespot gave PDZ a 9.0. Guess what it gave the completely remastered version of Perfect Dark 64... a 7.5. Most gaming sites of today weren't around when Perfect Dark released.
And all of this is moot... since I wasn't comparing the two. It's all opinions.

Why did Microsoft want Rare to work on other things? They wanted Rare to develop family friendly games so that the 360 could compete with the wildly successful Wii. After Viva Pinata they put them solely on Kinect games... and it paid off. The Kinect device is the fastest selling consumer electronic device in history. That beats Perfect Dark by a lot.

Well, in a sense, the original looks more realistic, but it has less graphic power so doesn't look as good as PDZ. Where as PDZ has more graphic power, but looks really cartoony. The new release of PD64 on Xbox arcade has enhanced visuals to a degree which is good.

You can tell Rare took inspiration from Timesplitters with that sounds effects, character models and movement of them. Seeing as some of their staff worked on Timesplitters. But IMO nothing beats Timesplitters. It's simply the best ever. Will give the demo a try later though, it looks fun. Especially with Multiplayer and co-op.

alright it was amazing, but the level design was what i was refering to. seriously just boring. pelagic II, that dumb cetan ship underwater, chicago. just ass. even the multiplayer maps never caught my attention even as a kid. but the area 51 base was great, though overused (4 missions, seriously), just like trinity platform in PDZ.
E3's in 12 days!! Fingers crossed for another PD!!!

This game is good, I bought it for $8 fro the collectors addition. I like how they inluded bots like the original(weaker AI though). Every Live game should have siulated multiplayer since everyone plays COD 4 and halo3 and no one really plays live on any other game

The multiplayer compared to the original Perfect Dark is also bad. Via emulator it is possible to play Perfect Dark online but shooting it up with 3 of your friends can be more fun then with random people online. I definitly don't agree with an 8.4

Doesn't look a touch on it's predecessor in terms of gameplay. They've traded that in for real physics and graphics. At the end of the day, people want something that's fun. Being realistic is a bonus, but this looks more like a game where you stalk around in the dark rather than it's predecessor where you run around on a rampage like a headless chicken.

Even at the time that this game came out, I still thought the graphics weren't good. Everything looks like plastic, even the people's skin. And it just didn't seem like a big jump from one gen to another. I thought COD 2 looked much better.
And as for graphics, it was really disappointing. The biggest game for xbox at the time was Halo 2, you would expect this game to have better gameplay to force people to make the move from last gen to current gen, but Halo 2 was still better.

Agreed. And that's a damn hard accomplishment... I can play PD Zero but it gets really old really fast for me. I hate how the sims just run run and keep running away unlike the original where they would stand up and give you a good fight. And yeah the graphics are horrible, just polished up at the end to make you think they're good at first... :P The weapons in this game SUCK compared to the original (my opinion) God this game was a let down
