Downgrade From Lion To Snow Leopard

People buy a Mac for the ability to use OS X. Not for the hardware itself. Equivalent hardware can be bought elsewhere at much lower prices than what Apple charges (and upgraded easily). With an increasingly closed approach, (and it's getting to the point where they are trying to prevent software installation outside of the app store), Mac is becoming less of a viable option unless your are OK with being dictated too on how you will use, and what software you want to install, on YOUR computer.

Apple USED to make a great OS, but lets face it Lion was just plain crap, and now they seem intent on making something even worse with Mountain Lion. The focus that they have on combining the Ipad / Iphone / Mac experience is going to drive lots of people away from using their computers, who are interested in development going into their computer OS, not having it changed to fit the IOS market. Apple isn't the company it once was and their increasingly closed approach is pissing people off.

Can't believe I found your video this late - but I'm so glad I did! I absolutely HATE Lion. It slowed my Mac down and screwed up so many things - maybe cuz its the 2010 MBP.

Great how-to! Seems like a few of the initial bugs in Lion have been worked out (at least to my preferences), but I have a 13" MBP I'd like to sell soon... the problem is it's running a weird mutated half-SL, half-L OS X. I bought a legit-looking copy of Lion on disc while in Thailand (before I found out that a manufactured Lion disc does not exist). It screwed EVERYTHING up. Anyway, this vid answers my questions and I'm in progress now! Thanks again!

if i do this via time machine, do I lose the other things I've done since switching to lion? I don't want to change the whole contents back - just the OS. Is that what will happen or is there a way to do it?

can you put your files and stuff on another partition and then downgrade, because i have a windows partition and i figured i could just put them on there temporarily and then put them back on.

i am trying to do as you say in your video but when i get the cd and then rester and push the letter C instead of showing the menu what it does is it gets the cd out and goes to the recovery disc options

Slighty confused. I have installed Lion, BUT had no back up when I was running in Snow Leopard. The only back up have is from the Lion version (on Time Machine).

If you have a Snow Leopard disc or if you don't you can buy one, you can install snow leopard.

hey i've tried to do your manipulation for the downgrade and now i have a big problem : when i clicked restore after dragging mac osx Base System and then clicked restore i restart my iMac with snow leopard with the original disk it said that you can't install this version on this computer.

So I restarted my computer and now i can't eject the install dvd and there's no macintosh HD button anymore it always start on the dvd but there's not the hard drive.... please help thanks

I was told by an Apple representative that this should not be done with a machine that came with Lion will not run Snow Leopard as the firmware is not compatible.

@thatgibbyguy Yep they told me the same thing when I called Apple Store Customer Service..they said it's not recommendable to downgrade since the drivers are not updated and it would cause problems... the thing I didn't like is that they don't accept returns because the installation cd box was already open... that is ridiculous! I didn't know I couldn't downgrade... now I feel bad for wasting money on Snow Leopard...guess I'll have to sell it online...that was my first bad experience with Apple.

I have upgraded to lion and now want to go back to snow leopard (for xcode 4 issue) and i havent backed up using time machine when i had 10.6.
