To fix the note of the drum getting longer or shorter, go to the channel settings for the wav file, go to the SMP tab, and in the Time Stretching section, click the drop down menu and choose "tonal" then turn the pitch knob (also in the same section) however you want it. Make copies of the same wav sound so you can give each one a different pitch but keep the time even.
changing the velocity on the snares I think is called "humanizing" so it sounds like a live player. Pretty cool man
