  • "Believe it or not, George isn't at home. Please leave a message at the beep. I must be out or I'd pick up the phone. Where could I be?...Believe it or not, I'm not home!"

  • 1 person has no clue what an answering machine even is...

  • I have this tape the real deal still in box. Hit me up if you wanna buy it.

  • great to know no one is home...let's rob this house

  • I want to Dub this so badly!

  • That would have been so fucking annoying. All that I have is "I should be back soon".

  • You can occasionally find it on eBay...I managed to score a copy that way.

  • Good luck leaving a message with this to let someone know their family has died.

  • Welcome to TV in the '80s: people selling lame-ass answering machine tapes through mail-order to people with poorly developed senses of humor. Anyone who thinks cable TV in the '80s was great need to see this ad to get a feel for the "other" side of that era. If you laugh at "Hee Haw" reruns and think "American Gladiators" is athleticism, this is funny; if you think Bill Hicks and George Carlin are funny, this is absolute lowest common denominator.

  • i wonder who's at that 800 number now.

  • @setpunk12 I just tried to call and somebody name Zachary answered

  • I sat through this schlock 14,000 times back when it was originally on the air, and then come back intentionally look it up twenty years later. Some ads just never die. Thanks for preserving a great little piece of history :-).

  • @talshiarr haha so true... thank you for scarring my childhood USA Cartoon Express

  • I remember this tv ad, I still occasionally say the lyrics they used to Beethoven's Fifth. "Nobody's Home, nobody's home. Leave a message after the tone."

  • Omg, some of these songs are so funny. Since cassettes are obsilete, I wonder if this is also on CD.

  • $14.95? Holy shit, that was like $50 bucks back then! lol

  • I remember this commercial...LOL.

This is so cool. Thank you for posting.

  • AWA Wrestling used this commercial to death in the late 80's

  • @Baltimoreman78 Yeah, I remember that too because my dad used to watch wrestling and I would see this all the time..lol.

  • wow!! i remember this old commercial!! thanks for posting it. tv and commercials are not what they used to be. its a shame that the new born are missing out on them!

  • You know i kinda want this...

  • The Rap song was on family guy!

  • I want this.

  • Flashback.

  • Dude! My family actually bought this and I still have the cassette! "Nobody's home! Nobody's home!"

  • hey can i get a copy of your tape i'll even mail you a blank cassette i stil have a tape answering machine and its in use. If you still got it that would be great. @jimelek

  • thats to fucking expensive! even back then

  • Where's the song that George Costanza sings?

  • Geo. Costanza used the tune from "The Greatest American Hero." His version is probably on YT somewhere.

  • They used a variant of the Beethoven's 5th one in a 2nd-season Simpsons ep, where Barney has it on his machine...changes the words to "Nobody's heeeeeeeere!", but I think I know where they got it from...LOL

  • "The Rap" one is like a slower version of what they did on family guy, which was hilarious.

  • actually, technically it should be that what family guy did was a faster version of this, as this version was first. but no one cares. lmao I'm just bored anyways XDD

  • so if i call this number...

  • I WANT THIS.

  • This bring back some memories! This rocks!

  • I totally had this.

  • Wait for the beep was actaully hit!

  • Thank you(?) for putting "The Rap" back in my head after a good 20 years of forgetting it. I only wish the announcer guy wasn't talking over it - I'd have it as my voicemail!

  • I totally rememer this commercial too, especially Beethoven's 5th and the rap one. My mom bought a cassette similar to this but it wasn't as cool. I guess she didn't want to pay the $14.95 :P

  • Whoever still has this tape I would like a copy.

  • Hello i dont have this exact one but i have 1 made by the same company thats got similar messages. I also have one thats made in Nasvhille and they both have a rap and are very funny if your interested let me know. @Existmusic707

  • dude

    i want this

too bad my answering machine is digital

    :/

  • Wow, I haven't seen this in like 20 years. I always used to quote the rap one.

  • Me too, and me too again. I still piss people off with that rap.

  • Are these retrievable somewhere on the Internet?

  • i would be great if it was.

  • My friend's mom let us record our own version of "The Rap" on their answering machine. "You gotta WAIT FOR THE BEEP!" Good times.

  • I'll call you back when I get home ooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeee ooooooooooooo.

  • Um... I'm still using this tape in my answering machine. Am I to understand that I'm out-of-date?

  • just saw "the rap" on the new Family Guy episode (Long John Peter). such a cool beat! ^^

  • @lotrecht Simpsons did it too, they Barny had his set for Beethoven fifth.

  • God $14.95 then in 1986 would be like $29.99 today, or maybe two 'easy' payments of $14.95...

  • i remember this commercial was played like 5 times every 10 min

  • Ohmygod. I remember this! Funny how it reflects the novelty of having an answering machine with the novelty of customizing one's answering machine message (and check out that piece of old tech!)

  • The Rap!!! The Rap!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!

  • loved this commercial, so glad I found it on here! I want to use it for my cell phone!

  • Haha I loved this commercial too I was like 7 or 8,I also want it for my cell phone that would be classic haha.

  • Yeah, I was about the same age myself...my sister used to sing the Beethoven's Fifth one ("Nobody's hoooooooome!") for years afterwards. :-D

  • That commercial was also from TV-Party website before the ending was cut off.

  • I'm ashamed but have to admit that I laughed at the Beethoven's Fifth bit, which I remember fondly (I wonder how many of these they sold?)

  • I TOTALLY remember this!
