I don't understand why they discontinued this product so fast. I saw two in a Toys R Us a couple months ago, in a town about 3hrs away from my hometown, but didn't have the money to buy one at the time, and I've regretted it ever since.
@theimacman You can still find them online, it's one of those sad stories of a great invention with a slightly high price point and with low projected sales from walmart.
Yeah, the price is just a tad too high to make it a no-brainer purchase. And, ugh, I hate how much control Walmart has over stuff like this. Having worked in the video game industry, I know how much it matters that Walmart sells your game. It's sad that Americans have given such a worthless company that kind of power over production of products in so many different areas.
@KamenKami the osprey is MUCH better, the Blue Sky is pretty much like any airhogs plane, it can fly but it's nothing special, the osprey can turn quick and glide smooth, plus the hover feature is worthwhile, I've also been able to hold an 808 keychain camera with it, I have a video posted of it.
@baronzl but never using hecopter mode to takeff ,as it suchs a lot of batteries. As far as i'm 20 meters high ,I can make it gain altitude with 30%throttle, while reached 200-300m high I can use the min throttle to run make it turn. it takes me 2 minutes to landing it from the sky without losing control. But if you left 0%throttle it goes nose down at very high spped for a EPP little modell
@baronzl that's a good way to increase flight times.
this aircraft was designed to get more lift then you would expect with very little thrust, they put a lot of work into it. the high angle of attack really helps with lift and the shape of the wing helps with stability..
if your lucky you can go to zero thrust drop out of the sky and then go into helicopter mode 30 or 40 feet before you hit the ground, if your lucky and have enough battery left it'll go into a hover of about 5 or 10 feet.
The high angle of attack and the angled shaped (like Stukas) wings helps a lot the lifting force and stability (ath theese low speeds) Stukas flew at 150-170 Knots maximum but they where extremely manuvrable .
I have problems passing from plane to heli for landings cause if you trimmed a lot it will tend to drop left or right wing. I have one of the four Vjet which does not requires trimmer, can hover from 30-35 knots
But helicopter mode I use just as Aereo-brakes mostly
there is no way to control it t 0% throttle as it is a full thrust vectoring controlled plane,so it needs vertical current to get lifted to 200-300m (you hear motors no more!) lifting at 40%thrust ,save battery and remember that youu'll need power to descend in circles align and land or it will go screw free fall (as there is a difference in fan positions so a difference in left an right side's drag.
so it needs vertical currents /winds to lift till 300m,otherwise maximum 50-60m then no more Amp
no way darpa is giving airhogs any money the idea of making it into a full size aircraft is reduclus it would never fly the wings on a tipican plain are filled with fule to lift the entire wing section to get virtical takeoff and landing would never work but nice vido sry im a dick i know
@alitmadrifter Your not being a dick, just honest, it wouldn't make as good of a full sized maned aircraft as it would a micro cheap vtol drone for troops in the field.
o ya also can the osprey takeoff and land horizontaly or would it damge thelanding gear? and does the front landing gear take hard landings? also about my other question compare them also by prices but 90% by performance ad ur opinion thx
@Jon99Man it can take off and land horizontally, or vertically. the landing gear can take a really hard shock and are designed to pop off without breaking them or the aircraft, it can also do short take offs and vertical landings, comparing the 2 is asking what type of flight do you want, a nice indoor flight with complete control and a 7 minute flight, or an outdoor rush with vtol and full speed forward flight, they are both great and should both be an any flight fans collection.
@TheXFR3SHX i haven't seen an alien jump jet for sale in a while so i would have to say the air hogs osprey, and the fact that it can go outside is a big plus, even if it is only 2.5 channels versus 4 channels it's nice to be able to hover and fly fast and far away with the same aircraft, the jump jet was infra red and that was one of it's biggest downfalls.
Taoistflyer- GREAT DEMO. I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE BATTERY ISSUE. SUCH INNOCENT FUN. LOVED THEIR LIL' INFRARED CHOPPERS...BUT THE TAIL ROTOR MOTORS KEP'T FAILING EARLY....BUMMER.
LOST SEVERAL IN TALL TREES. AT NIGHT, I COULD FLY THEM SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET UP. WAS FUN.
@jon92 different radio frequency, i think one is 27 mGH and the other is 72 mGH so that you can fly without interfering with another aircraft on the same frequency.
this thing is awsome. my buddy got it for christmas. it is definetly the fastest air hogs aircraft. there is one problem. the transition from horizontal to vertical flight is slow.
I fixed it I made the burlington RC flyers club account and yes this is a real air plane club (:
P.S. I found out that air hog changed some thing on the box the flight time because there was a small label over say 4 to 6 minutes when it had originally said 6 to 8 minutes of flight!
@blackghostcat it's definitely head and shoulders above the switchblade i really enjoy flying it. my switchblade is a pain in the ass to even get in the air, this thing lifts up like a dream flies around then lands where i want it to, it's nice.
@taoistflyer Whoops I am sorry I accidently downed you comment D: Sorry. But to what you my friend adam used a fire bird Phantom servos for airalon and elevators. PM me if you want more detail I will tell you as much as I can about it.
@blueangelsjet2 my did OK in 105 degree heat, but the coldest i've flown in was about 60 degrees and it did fine. You do need to adjust the trim for more stable heli flights.and stay out of high winds.
it seems like full control is dependent completely on the props(there doesn't seem to be ailerons or a rudder for airplane flight.) does this rule out any acrobatics such as rolls during airplane mode? does it have full four channel capabilities in helicopter mode?
@Whitebread145 i wasn't in junk yard wars, sorry, but i did see an episode of it once, they built giant killer robots out of backhoes, it was pretty cool.
Hey man haven't talked to you in awhile. This looks pretty awesome a couple questions. I didn't see a price anywhere so how much does it cost? Second how are the wheels? Are they good enough for a decent horizontal take off and landing? Third, and this is a little off topic... You didn't happen to be in a show called junkyard wars did you? Because there is a guy who appeared several times on that show who looks exactly like you.
Control in helicopter mode is accomplished by tilting one of the wings, airplane mode is traditional variable thrust between the props.
since it is only 2.5 channel it can't do many aerobatics, but it can do a loop and a few cool spiral stunts. the vtol capability is what really sells it, but it can do a rolling take off and landing like a normal plane.
@choogalee I was trying to get it back between the 2 trees and into the small landing area, it was a tight spot and i was coming in fast, if it would have been on a flat concrete surface it would have rolled to a stop, but the front wheal got caught on the rocks.
ok got this plane 2 weeks ago and fricking love it. also got the keychain cam on order last week . as much as this is the best plane ever made by air hogs there is one draw back ,, there is only a 100 ft range although i feel i get about 150 out of mine it would still be nice to have 300 ft to roam. anyone else' thoughts ???
Okay a little windy today, almost too much wind, but I got it to do a loop, then I was able to do another loop...I hope I can get it to loop with less wind. It is a challenge to fly in wind, osprey will actually under full power go vertical (that's the trick, cut power and it goes over for a loop), rate of climb only controlable by tight turn and cut power 50% then it starts coming down. I am thinking if wing transistions were equally fast, very tight loops might be possible?...love this model!
@Travellingman32 mine was a pre-production model and i guess it had a little less power then yours, mine wouldn't go vertical at full thrust, but it almost could.
Great aircraft, I hope Air hogs continues to improve this...the landing gear...why not Heli skids like on a Havoc? Any tips how to keep the under carriage from falling off?
The plane flies good without them anyway...so happy I bought it. Stunt I have learned, dumb crash imminent in airplane mode...hit hover mode...acts as air brake. So how about some YT video stunts, modifications such as quick change battery...this has potential to get much cooler...Kudos Air hogs!
It looks great, but honestly..... 45 minutes charge time and only about 5-10 minutes flight? I never understood why they do not make interchangeable batteries for these planes.
@trebbor58 Honestly it's more like a 35 minute charge for 8 or 10 minutes of flight.
it would be nice if it had interchangeable batteries, but the fact that it works as well as it does makes it worth buying, no one else has anything like this on the market.
@gasattackmanliveca the osprey full tilt is a limited edition aircraft, only a few thousand wear produced for the entire world, so if you see one get it before it's gone.
I notice that at full power the pitch attitude is a bit high. Did you do any modifications? You typically charge for 45 minutes? Thanks for sharing the video.
@sbscottw no modifications, i think the high pitch angle helps it keep in the air even at low power, the wings are always tilted back a little, but it doesn't have any tendencies to want to pitch up and stall, you would think during transition it would want to loop, but the wings do a nice slow tilt bringing it to a hover in about 15 feet
After this video I did put a small camera on it I was able to get some pretty good video
charge times are usually about 40 minutes after a full 8-10 min flight
@TheQuincyT118 I did and it works great, it does a great short take off and landing, I also put a small camera on it and got some really good Ariel video, stay tuned.
I can tell you, not unlike the real one, the RC Osprey has been years in development to get one affordable and easy to fly. Many, many failed prototypes are sitting around. This should be around $79.99, maybe less on sale. Unfortunately, the industry isn't controlled by flight enthusiasts, Air Hogs/Silverlit did not get big orders for this, so the quantity in the US will be small. Toys R Us only as of right now.
(TO ANYONE WHO SEES THIS, CALL YOUR LOCAL RETAIL STORES AND ASK THEM TO PUT THE OSPREY ON STORE SHELVES)
The real V22 osprey is an important aircraft, it's development is a big step to the future of VTOL aircraft, I support the project. and like the Real osprey this RC version is an important step in the advancement of consumer RC aircraft, just like the picoo z.
I do like the fact that unlike the real osprey this one can take off and land like a plane and heli.
@VAND4LL they really did overcome the tricky transition phase in a unique way, tilting the whole wing means they can place the engine in a more optimal location. it was attempted on a few aircraft through the 60s and 70s but they had trouble with transitions, there's a moment during transition when the rotors stop generating lift before the wings start acting like lift surfaces , it seams like airhogs overcame this by having the wings quickly switch to airplane mode. At this scale it works great
@taoistflyer I just recheck the site and they do have a licensed replica of the AirHogs A-10 coming out or already out, I had to make sure i wasn't seeing things.

It will be in the UK. Check TRU in October.

@Cold4ged Thank you very much
(TO ANYONE WHO SEES THIS, CALL YOUR LOCAL RETAIL STORES AND ASK THEM TO PUT THE OSPREY ON STORE SHELVES)

BTW if you have the chance do a review on AirHogs A-10 Warthog not sure when it will be coming out.

@VAND4LL If I have a chance to review the A 10 I will, i haven't seen or heard anything about it other then whats on airhogs web site.

@taoistflyer You can get them already in Britain

@taoistflyer I just recheck the site and they do have a licensed replica of the AirHogs A-10 coming out or already out, I had to make sure i wasn't seeing things.

That's really cool, apparently AirHogs manage to over come some technical difficulties with VTOL in a unique design.
